It’s always the way: some horndog dude decides to prong a woman, then ends up dissatisfied with the results. So he has a tantrum. The tantrum may take one, or a combination, of many interesting forms.
Sometimes the woman doesn’t want him around anymore, so he stalks her. Sometimes she makes him hate her so much that he emails naked pictures of her to the whole school. Sometimes she gets old or fat so he keeps her around to do his laundry but starts pronging a younger woman on the DL. Sometimes she stops putting out so he fires her from her job. Sometimes the woman interprets the pronging as rape, so he calls her a liar and tortures her with mental cruelty and courtroom drama and ends up doing no jail time.
And sometimes he makes the woman pregnant. In this case he can choose from many, many popular options. He might he murder her, beat her, abandon her, marry her, slut-shame her, or, as in today’s case, appeal to the patriarchal justice system to enforce his wishes as to what should be done with the contents of her personal uterus........................

As I’m sure you know, ESPN sets the tone for sports highlights with its daily Sports Center program. In fact, you could probably say that Sports Center is ESPN since each day the show runs for 14 hours (live and reruns) and the catch-calls of its announcers become famous. You would think that it could find time to show highlights of women’s sports. Unfortunately, it can’t find the time. With miniscule exceptions, you can’t find highlights and you can’t even find scores.
Sally Jenkins’ column in Friday’s Washington Post tells the sad story. And even worse than the current miniscule figures is the fact that Sports Center has drastically cut back in recent years. A study released this week entitled “Gender in Televised Sports: News and Highlight Shows, 1989-2009,” sampled the content of highlight shows and found that they devote barely 1.5% of airtime to women’s sports.
The new tiered pricing structure gives AT&T customers the following options:
For some, these changes stink. For others, it won’t affect their lives much. Which plan is right for you? Let’s break down the options.
I mentioned this on Twitter, but as Twitter has grown and grown (congrats, Biz and Ev!) it's become very "in the moment" and not the best place to put very important things like this:
There's a page on Facebook that appears to be mine. The problem with this is that I don't use Facebook, and I don't want people to be mislead. (Ohh! Bold text! Wil must be serious!)
This is not me. A casual observer could see this page and think it's legit, because there isn't anything on it that clearly identifies it as a fan page, or a parody page, or something like that. For all I know, it's well-intentioned and I'm overreacting, but I just can't take a chance with things like this. At the moment, it appears to be asking for donations to fight Alzheimer's, which is a noble cause, but if I stood back and let anyone claim to be me while asking for money - for anything - it could have really, really bad consequences. ........................
if this is a surprise to anyone, they have their head buried in the sand. he's not all together here. why do people watch or listen to him other than for comedy's sake? i do wonder
Glenn Beck's new book club pick: Nazi sympathizer who praised Hitler and denounced the Allies
by Eric Hananoki
On his radio show today, Glenn Beck heralded and promoted the work of Nazi sympathizer Elizabeth Dilling, who spoke at rallies hosted by the leading American Nazi group and praised Hitler. Today, Dilling is heralded by White Supremacists and White Aryans who revere her "fearless" work against Jewish people.
As Media Matters' Simon Maloy noted, Beck had kind words for Dilling's 1934 anti-communist book, The Red Network, saying: "This is a book -- and I'm a getting a ton of these -- from people who were doing what we're doing now. We now are documenting who all of these people are. Well, there were Americans in the first 50 years of this nation that took this seriously, and they documented it." Maloy noted that Dilling has a long history of rabid anti-Semitism, such as calling President Eisenhower "Ike the Kike" and labeling President Kennedy's New Frontier program the "Jew frontier."....................

The leader of a group of artists says he was ordered to lighten the skin tones of children depicted in an outdoor mural covering two walls of a Prescott, Arizona elementary school because of complaints that the faces appeared too ethnic.
"We consistently, for two months, had people shouting racial slander from their cars," R.E. Wall told AZCentral. "We had children painting with us, and here come these yells of (epithet for Blacks) and (epithet for Hispanics)." Wall explained that "because of the controversy," he was told to make the children's faces lighter and happier.
Principal Jeff Lane, however, insisted that he had only received three complaints about the mural and that all he wanted was for the artists to "fix the shading on the children's faces."
"We were looking at it from an artistic view," Lane claimed "Nothing at all to do with race." Lane's order, however, came only after City Councilman Steve Blair had used his radio talk show to start a campaign for the mural to be removed.
On May 21, Blair stated, "I am not a racist individual, but I will tell you depicting a black guy in the middle of that mural, based upon who's president of the United States today and based upon the history of this community when I grew up, we had four black families - who I have been very good friends with for years - to depict the biggest picture on that building as a black person, I would have to ask the question, 'Why?'".....................
pic:According to BBC, Chief Rabbi Elyakim Levanon of the West Bank has recently banned women from running in elections in his community. After an anonymous woman wrote to him, expressing her interest in running for Common Secretary, Rabbi Levanon said:
“The first problem is giving women authority, and being a secretary means having authority. The second problem is mixing men and women. Secretary meetings are held at night and sometimes end very late. It is not proper to be in mixed company in such situations.”
He also wrote a column in the community newspaper which suggested that ‘women must only be heard through their husbands.’
Democratic officials clearly see an opening to score some political points after the Washington Post (following Slate) reported Thursday morning on new documents highlighting the extent to which GOP power broker Fred Malek helped target and purge Jews during the Nixon administration.
The scandal is nearly 40 years old and Malek long ago apologized for his role. But the longtime GOP hand is arguably as much of a mover and shaker within the party now as he was serving in the Executive Office. And the posting of new material related to his effort to "check the Jews throughout the administration" has given Democrats a chance to put an uncomfortable spotlight on those Republicans lawmakers with close ties to Malek.................

Kucinich: Flotilla raid jeopardizes US troops in Iraq
Some conservative commentators and lawmakers are pointing the finger of blame at President Barack Obama over Israel's raid on a Gaza-bound humanitarian flotilla that ended with the death of nine activists.
On Tuesday, Sen. John McCain told Fox News that the Obama administration's calls for a settlement freeze in the West Bank and in East Jerusalem set the stage for the deadly May 31 incident.
"This is another step in a chain of unfortunate events beginning with President Obama’s insistence that there be a freeze, as a precondition for peace talks, a freeze on settlements in Jerusalem," McCain told Fox's Sean Hannity. "Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, not a settlement."
Talk show host Michael Savage linked President Obama to the flotilla raid much more directly. Savage told listeners that he believed the Israeli commandos sent on board the Mavi Marmara were "betrayed" so that their deaths would be "good PR" for Israel's allies. (No Israeli service members died in the raid.) And he suggested it was the Obama administration that pressured Israel into "dangling [its] soldiers like bait into a tank of sharks."...........
AT&T is dropping its $30-a-month unlimited data plan as of Monday and replacing it with a two-tier pricing system for new customers. Current AT&T customers with unlimited data plans can stick with them.
Here are AT&T's estimates for how much a user will get out of the data allotments in the new plans. The amount can vary greatly, however. For example, one e-mail with five high-resolution photo attachments could use up 5% of the monthly allotment on the DataPlus plan............
BP has vowed to clean up the spill, but is now trying to deny aspects of its environmental damage. On Sunday, BP CEO Tony Hayward was quoted disputing experts’ claims to have discovered oil plumes trapped in large quantities and spreading miles underseas. Hayward said, "The oil is on the surface. There aren’t any plumes." Hayward also told reporters he doubts that scores of workers and fishermen have gotten sick from the toxic dispersants used to break up the oil in the water. He instead said the workers had suffered food poisoning.
Tony Hayward: "I’m sure they were genuinely ill, but whether it was anything to do with dispersants and oil, whether it was food poisoning or some other reason for them being ill, you know, there’s a—food poisoning is clearly a big issue when you’ve got a, you know, concentration of this number of people in temporary camps, temporary accommodation. It’s something we have to be very, very mindful of. It’s one of the big issues of keeping the army operating. You know, armies march on their stomachs."
A number of workers involved in the clean-up have been hospitalized. Hayward’s comment came shortly after he publicly complained about the disaster’s impact on his personal life...........
it comes at about 7:30 into the video. yes, it really DOES come out of his mouth
NEW ORLEANS -- Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. announced Tuesday that his office is using "the full weight" of its investigative power to pursue criminal and civil investigations into the oil spill that has devastated the Gulf Coast.
"The Department of Justice will ensure that the American people do not foot the bill for this disaster and that our laws are enforced to the fullest extent possible," he said.
Earlier in the day, President Obama vowed a "full and vigorous accounting" of the causes of the disaster, telling the leaders of a new commission that they should pursue the trail of blame without limits.
"They have my full support to follow the facts wherever they may lead, without fear or favor," Obama said in the Rose Garden on Tuesday after meeting with the co-chairmen of the commission, former Florida senator and governor Bob Graham and former EPA administrator William Reilly.
Holder's announcement came at an afternoon news conference in New Orleans, the same day the attorney general met with local law enforcement officials and surveyed part of the affected area.
"What we saw this morning was oil for miles and miles and miles, oil that we know has already affected plants and animal life along the coast and has impacted the lives and livelihoods of all too many in this region," he said. "This must not be forgotten."...............

The latest xkcd comic features a Venn diagram that accurately sums up the ongoing “Geeks vs Nerds” debate. In March, the Women’s Rights section of change.org had an article about the decades-old pattern of male swim coaches molesting female swimmers. The article said that:
This suit has come about in large part because of 1972 Olympic champion Deena Deardurff Schmidt, who, over a 4-year period in the 1960′s, was molested by her coach. When Schmidt reported the abuse to the national swimming organization in the late 1980′s, she was turned aside because of the organization’s rules that a complaint must be filed by an active swimmer or the person would have to find a coach who would back up her story. So her complaint went nowhere..............A suit filed in California alleges that the the governing body of U.S. competitive swimming has failed to address widespread sexual abuse of young girls at swim clubs across the country. According to the Associated Press, the suit alleges that “more than 30 coaches nationwide have engaged in sexual misconduct with young females, and says there is a culture in competitive swimming of condoning inappropriate relationships between coaches and swimmers.”
Hundimiento por socavación del agua en la Zona 2 de la Ciudad de Guatemala. In an affidavit, Wunstell wrote he started experiencing severe headaches and nasal irritation on May 24. Over the next few days, he also developed nosebleeds, an upset stomach, and aches.
On Friday, Wunstell was airlifted to West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, Louisiana, where he remained hospitalized Sunday.
Eight other workers were brought to the hospital this week and were all released.
"We need to start protecting these guys," said Jim Klick, Wunstell's lawyer.
In his affidavit, Wunstell described his experience at the hospital.
"At West Jefferson, there were tents set up outside the hospital, where I was stripped of my clothing, washed with water and several showers, before I was allowed into the hospital," Wunstell said. "When I asked for my clothing, I was told that BP had confiscated all of my clothing and it would not be returned."
The restraining order requests that BP refrain from "altering, testing or destroying clothing or any other evidence or potential evidence" when workers become ill...............

Louise Bourgeois, the French-born American artist who gained fame only late in a long career, when her psychologically charged abstract sculptures, drawings and prints had a galvanizing effect on younger artists, particularly women, died on Monday at the Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan. She was 98.
