Meet the KKK's seamstress of hate couture.   Photo Essay by Anthony Karen

pic: Ms. Ruth personally sews one robe a day. She works 10 to 12 hours a day, seven days a week. She has 1 to 3 helpers at times. The person to be fitted measures themselves, fills out the tailoring chart, and mails in the order. It takes 4 to 6 weeks for delivery. Here she puts the final touches on a red Klan hood.

Tea Party thinks it knows best: Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.)

By

rep paul broun (r-ga dipshite-ga)
During an interview with Andrea Mitchell yesterday, Broun said he had introduced legislation to lower the debt ceiling. You read that right. wants to lower the amount of money the federal government can borrow. As Mitchell correctly pointed out, “[T]he debt ceiling is being raised to pay for money that has been appropriated by this Congress and previous Congresses.” She added, “You’re paying for what has already been charged, not for future expenses.” The second-term congressman countered.
Well, Andrea, the thing is, when someone is overextended and broke they don’t continue paying for expensive automobiles. They sell the expensive automobiles and buy a cheaper one. They don’t continue paying for country club dues. They drop out of the country club.
And what of the people who are overextended and broke, but used their credit cards to pay for food, rent, medical expenses or other necessities? What do they cut?..........................

Cosmetics adverts in UK stopped because of airbrushing

by Chris in Paris

The airbrushing in advertising has become so ridiculous that pancake makeup looks natural compared to them. There's nothing wrong with seeing people age or seeing real people.False advertising is false advertising.
L'Oréal has been forced to pull ad campaigns featuring Pretty Woman star Julia Roberts and supermodel Christy Turlington, after the advertising watchdog upheld complaints by Liberal Democrat MP Jo Swinson that the images were overly airbrushed.

Swinson, who has waged a long-running campaign against "overly perfected and unrealistic images" of women in adverts, lodged complaints with the Advertising Standards Authority about the magazine campaigns for L'Oréal-owned brands Lancôme and Maybelline. The ASA ruled that both ads breached the advertising standards code for exaggeration and being misleading and banned them from future publication.

and not one of her lemmings followers

will say a word. she's a hypocrite and a daydreamer (not in a GOOD way mind you) and someone who is so out of touch with truth and reality

Bachmann used loan program weeks before pushing to eliminate it

By Lynda Waddington

Weeks before U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) pushed for the elimination of government-backed loan programs, she and her husband, Marcus, signed documents to finance a $417,000 home loan, which experts told The Washington Post was backed by the very programs Bachmann had aimed to destroy.
Bachmann, along with several other members of Congress, blamed Fannie Mae andFreddie Mac for the 2008 financial meltdown. Due to their government-backing, the programs can offer lower interest rates, but those opposed have argued that the programs come at too high a cost to taxpayers.
From reporter Kimberly Kindy of The Washington Post:
… Bachmann has been the most outspoken critic of the loan programs and other government subsidies among Republican presidential candidates. Former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty also has called for dismantling Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Experts who reviewed his mortgage documents said that there was no way to tell whether his home loan from 1994 had government backing.
Bachmann’s mortgage was part of a package of debt that she and her husband, Marcus, assumed to buy their home, public records show. They also have other loans, including a home equity line of credit, a business mortgage and another business loan for their Christian counseling clinics, bringing their liabilities to more than $1 million, according to the most recently available public records. …
The situation is politically significant not only because Bachmann took advantage of a program she opposed, but because she has remained a staunch critic of government debt, often reminding Iowans at her whistle stops that the government should function like families do and not spend more that it has...............

My ‘Atheist / Flying Spaghetti Monster’ military dog tags

.............A little while ago, news broke about a Pastafarian winning the right to wearing a pasta strainer on his head for his official driver’s license photograph *edit: it seems that there was no legal battle*. Coincidentally, around the same time, I got a few emails from the contributors to a Wikipedia article on Religious Symbols in the US Military asking if I would contribute a photograph of my Atheist dog tags.

Shortly after I donated the photograph to Wikipedia, the photo was added to the Flying Spaghetti Monster entry as well. Awesome.

I actually have a few funny stories about FSM and the Army. *warning: quoting a Drill Sergeant is NSFW*................

Anders Breivik, The American Tea Party, Norway and "Sharia Creep"

By Abe Sauer

The attacks were "a despicable act directed at everyone in Norway," said Siv Jensen, the leader of the Norwegian Progress Party. While her assessment of the 76 dead and nearly 100 injured may be philosophically true, it's technically false. The bombing and mass shooting late last week was in fact directed at a very specific group of Norwegians. These "summer camp" teens weren't shot for taking canoe lessons; they were shot for being political activists, or children of such. (This was something made very clear by Tea Party leader Glenn Beck, when he functionally ended his corporate career days later by comparing the dead to Hitler Youth).
After years of ratcheted-up rhetoric, it was only a matter of time before some right-winger deduced to take what he saw as the natural next step. Still, it's a surprise that Anders Breivik's manifesto argues for creating "a cultural Euro-version of a Tea Party movement"—since one already exists. Norway's Progress Party is a smaller-government, low-taxes, culturally conservative movement based on Christianity that, besides the diacritics, is nearly identical to the Tea Party. Breivik belonged to the party for some time. Progress Party leaders have made it a point to note that he left the party; Breivik himself still endorses the party in his 1,500-page diary, writing that he "strongly recommends followers extend their Facebook networks to like-minded individuals overseas and to, amongst others groups, join the Progress Party.".........

yup, this will work all right!

i'm sure rachel will come out on top (so to speak)

but man, this dude is like an annoying gnat that JUST WON'T GO AWAY

Maddow Sued For $50 Million By Bachmann Buddy Bradlee Dean. Allegedly.

by DAVID BADASH

Rachel Maddow, MSNBC anchor and favorite truth teller of the liberal left (me too!) is being sued for $50 million by Christian rock star Bradlee Dean, the infamous head of the infamous group, You Can Run But You Cannot Hide International, over a particular statement Dean made that he now claims isn’t really what he meant. You know, like when someone says,
Muslims are calling for the executions of homosexuals in America. This just shows you they themselves are upholding the laws that are even in the Bible of the Judeo-Christian God, but they seem to be more moral than even the American Christians do, because these people are livid about enforcing their laws. They know homosexuality is an abomination.… If America won’t enforce the laws, God will raise up a foreign enemy to do just that. That’s what you are seeing today in America,”
but then later wants you to think they said,
I like French toast.”..............

they're not just morons and id-jits, they're

a danger to our nation. the deniers that is. i don't understand what being conservative has to do with having  your eyes open. does anyone else? i already think it's much too late to save our planet, but we don't have to have our heads in the sand do we?

Conservative Media Downplay Extreme Heat Wave

by Jocelyn Fong
On his radio show yesterday, Rush Limbaugh declared that "almost no temperature records were broken" during the recent heat wave and that media outlets who reported on "record-breaking" heat were telling "a bunch of lies" to "advance a political agenda of liberalism."
Limbaugh's remarks echo a Newsbusters post in which Noel Sheppard claims that "almost no temperature records were actually broken." He came to this conclusion by ignoring most of the temperature records. Nevertheless, Sheppard's claim was picked up not only by Limbaugh but also Fox Nation:..................

Here's the data (from NOAA) on the number of U.S. records broken or tied in the month of July so far:
......................
  • All-Time Highest Maximum Temperature: 70
  • All-Time Highest Minimum Temperature: 175
  • Monthly Highest Maximum Temperature: 125
  • Monthly Highest Minimum Temperature: 330
  • Daily Highest Maximum Temperature: 2,125
  • Daily Highest Minimum Temperature: 4,787
Downplaying the heat wave, Limbaugh claimed "It does this every year." Is that true?
Not according to Christopher Vaccaro, a spokesman for the National Weather Service who told the New York Times that "this is different":
"One could say, 'Oh, it's summer, its late July, it's hot,' " said Christopher Vaccaro, a spokesman for the National Weather Service. "But this is different."
According to Mr. Vaccaro, this heat wave is exceptional not only for its strength, but also for its breadth and duration...................

this is one hell of an interesting article

on angola (the prison, not the country). i have always been fascinated with it. why? i am guessing because it's been featured in so many movies and so very many pieces of literature. all fiction. THIS, my dears, IS REAL

God's Own Warden

— By James Ridgeway

IT WAS A CHILLY DECEMBER morning when I got to the gates of Angola prison, and I was nervous as I waited to be admitted. To begin with, nothing looked the way it ought to have looked. The entrance, with its little yellow gatehouse and red brick sign, could have marked the gates of one of the smaller national parks. There was a museum with a gift shop, where I perused miniature handcuffs, jars of inmate-made jelly, and mugs that read "Angola: A Gated Community" before moving on to the exhibits, which include Gruesome Gertie, the only electric chair in which a prisoner was executed twice. (It didn't take the first time, possibly because the executioners were visibly drunk.)
Besides being cold and disoriented, I had the well-founded sense of being someplace where I wasn't wanted. Angola welcomes a thousand or more visitors a month, including religious groups, schoolchildren, and tourists taking a side trip from their vacations in plantation country. Under ordinary circumstances, it's possible to drive up to the gate and tour the prison in a state vehicle, accompanied by a staff guide. But for me, it had taken close to two years and the threat of an ACLU lawsuit to get permission to visit the place................

Beck: Norway camp smacks of 'Hitler Youth'

By the CNN Wire Staff

(CNN) -- In the wake of last week's massacre in Norway, U.S. conservative commentator Glenn Beck on Monday compared the summer camp where most of the 76 victims died to the Hitler Youth organization of Nazi Germany.
Beck, on his radio show, declared the killings "the work of a madman" and called the suspect "as bad as Osama bin Laden." But before launching into that condemnation, he questioned what the victims were doing at a summer camp run by Norway's ruling Labour Party.
Beck said the camp "sounds a little like, you know, the Hitler Youth or whatever. Who does a camp for kids that's all about politics? Disturbing."
However, politically-oriented camps are being organized in several U.S. states by chapters of the "9/12 Project" -- an organization founded by Beck himself in 2009.
The Colorado 9/12 Project hosted a "Patriot Camp" for kids in grades 1-5 earlier this month, featuring programs on "our Constitution, the Founding Fathers, and the values and principles that are the cornerstones of our nation."....................
