First the Republican Party in Polk County, Wisconsin, pulled the tape of Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI) fretting about making ends meet on his $174,000 a year salary from its own website. Now they want it gone from the whole Internet.
For a couple hours, the local county GOP was successful. But we've put an excerpt of the video back up.
A day after TPM posted the video we obtained of Duffy talking about his salary at a Polk County town hall meeting earlier this year, the Polk County GOP contacted the video provider we used to host the video, Blip.tv, and demanded the video be taken down................
Indiana Republicans vote down rape exception, calling it a 'giant loophole'
Republican Indiana state Rep. Eric Turner insisted this week that women will pretend to be raped just to get around proposed abortion laws.
Turner legislation, HB 1210, would impose some of the strictest restrictions on abortion in the country. Under his bill, abortions after 20 weeks would be illegal in Indiana. Abortions are currently illegal after around 24 weeks, when some say the fetus becomes viable life.
State Rep. Gail Riecken (D) offered an amendment Tuesday that would create an exemption for women who are victims of rape or incest. The amendment would have also exempted women whose life was threatened by their pregnancy.............

the earth was created in a handful of days, it's only a few thousand years old (say five or six or perhaps seven), humans and dinosaurs lived at the same time, and ONCE AGAIN, WOMEN HAVE DIRTY BODY PARTS
For some Republican lawmakers in Florida, uterus is a dirty word.
During a debate over a bill that would prohibit governments from deducting union dues out of a worker's paycheck last week, Florida state Rep. state Rep. Scott Randolph (D) argued that Republicans seem to only be against regulations when it comes to big business.
In his speech on the state House floor, Randolph even suggested that his wife could "incorporate her uterus" if it would stop the GOP from passing more restrictive abortion laws.
Republican leadership scolded the Democratic congressman, telling him that talk about body parts was unwelcome............
now comes the REALLY good part;
..........He said Republicans told him they were concerned about young pages hearing the word...........................

AT&T’s secret f*cking loophole: If you want out of an Internet contract, just curse By Stephen C. Webster
With telecom giant AT&T rolling out limitations and additional fees on how much information its Internet users can access, it seems the company is bracing for an influx of anger.
In a little-noticed contract tweak recently, AT&T customer service representatives have been empowered to cancel the contract of any customers who behave in an abusive manner towards them.
In other words, when those top two percent of users get massive bandwidth bills at the end of May, and they call in with full-bore nerd rage, AT&T will have an easy solution: cut them off entirely, and waive the cancellation fee.
But in perhaps an unintended consequence of this move, that would also allow disgruntled users to wriggle out of their contract with what The L.A. Times called "some strategic cussing.".......
North Carolina bill would prohibit cities from upgrading Internet access By Stephen C. Webster
he Republican-dominated North Carolina State Assembly this week approved a bill that would prohibit communities from upgrading their internet access, forcing individual municipalities into a private monopoly of managed broadband services by companies like Time Warner and Comcast.
Both firms have been restricting the amount of bandwidth users can consume, even though bandwidth itself is not a tangible, meter-able commodity............
“They’re fucking gross, man. Look, I love beautiful girls too. I think everyone should be free to have their knee socks and their sweaty shorts, but I’m over it. I’m over this weird, exhausted girl. I’m over the girl that’s tired and freezing and hungry. I like bossy girls, I always have. I like people filled with life. I’m over this weird media thing with all this, like, hollow-eyed, empty, party crap.”
i come from the 'our bodies our selves' generation (look it up if you don't know what i'm talking about). i did my time when i was younger and i sure as shite am STILL doing my time. we STILL don't have equal rights and it's 2011. it's MY body, it's MY choice.
Sometimes referred to as the “morning after pill,” emergency contraception (EC) is a method of birth control that can prevent pregnancy after sex.
EC can be used if you had unprotected sex in the past 5 days. You can use EC if:
you didn’t use birth control
you were late with your regular method
the condom broke
you were forced to have unprotected sex
WHAT IS EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION?
EC is a safe and effective method of birth control that can prevent pregnancy after sex. EC is not the abortion pill. It will not work if you are already pregnant. It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections or HIV/AIDS.
HOW DOES EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION WORK?
EC can prevent pregnancy by delaying or inhibiting ovulation. It may also inhibit fertilization.
There are three brands of EC (Plan B® One-Step, Next Choice®, and ella®) approved for pregnancy prevention:.........................
REMEMBER, IT'S STILL YOUR CHOICE. DON'T LET IT GET TAKEN AWAY FROM YOU!
aborting a fetus if it's a particular gender (female usually). in india for one, and china for another. it is NOT happening as a rule in the united states. it never has and it never will. this is NOT a problem or an issue you stupid asshole re-PUG-na-CAN'TS. what IS an issue is COMPREHENSIVE FUCKING SEX EDUCATION. if you concentrated on THAT, you'd have to worry LESS about abortions
Arizona is the first state in the nation to make sex- or race-selection abortions a crime.
Gov. Jan Brewer on Tuesday signed into law House Bill 2443, which makes it a felony for a doctor to perform an abortion based on the sex or race of the fetus.
Opponents of the measure have questioned whether such a practice was really occurring...............
on the 11 year old texas girl who was repeatedly gang raped (and a great portion of the town blamed the 11 year old)
in a previous times article (and other articles), i sure didn't like the tone or the attitude (rather hard ON THE ELEVEN YEAR OLD GIRL, not balanced. pointing fingers AT THE ELEVEN YEAR OLD GIRL)
this one is a fraction better. i mean only the SLIGHTEST fraction better. it still doesn't get to the meat of the issue. it still doesn't DEFEND THE ELEVEN YEAR OLD GIRL. that to me is beyond wrong
CLEVELAND, Tex. — A year ago, the 11-year-old girl who the police say was the victim of repeated gang rapes in this East Texas town was an outgoing honor roll student, brimming with enthusiasm, who went on hikes and planted trees with a youth group here.
“She has always been a really bubbly child,” said Brenda Myers, director of the Community and Children’s Impact Center, who worked with her. “She always had a smile on her face.”
But in October, just after starting sixth grade, the girl became withdrawn, Ms. Myers said, and in November, she stopped attending the center’s meetings.
What happened during those months is the subject of a criminal investigation that has sent waves of shock and sorrow through this impoverished town and has provoked anger across the nation.
The police say the girl was raped on at least six occasions, from Sept. 15 to Dec. 3. Nineteen boys and men, ages 14 to 27, have been charged in connection with the rapes, the most recent arrest last Wednesday.
Court documents and dozens of interviews over several weeks with the girl’s family, her friends and neighbors, as well as those who know the defendants, provide a more complete picture of what occurred as well as a deeper portrait of the victim. What begins to emerge is the nightmarish ordeal of a young girl over two and a half months involving an eclectic group of young men, some with criminal records, who shared a powerful neighborhood bond.............
it is 2011 and people are ready to burn others at the stake. well in all reality it sounds like no one had an actual problem with people being wiccan. they had problems with jealousy, greed and power. just like old times, old times!
it's not the fear of someone casting a spell on your car heater (yeah, i laughed so much i cried), it's lying about it, telling stories about it and yelling BURN THE WITCH BURN THE WITCH
what a load of shite this is. i hope ms smith wins her case and gets all her back comp PLUS damages. i cannot tell you how off putting this story is. how upsetting it is. how absolutely insane it is
Here's a situation for all you aspiring managers: If you were the boss at a U.S. government agency and one of your employees complained that she was afraid of a co-worker's religious practices, what would you do?
Would it change your decision if the religion were Wicca, and the employee feared her co-worker because she thought she might cast a spell on her?
Here's how the Transportation Security Administration handled it:
It fired the witch.
Each person's story is unique, but what happened to Carole A. Smith gives us a glimpse of the work life of the 400,000-plus Wiccans in the United States. And it sheds light on work life at the TSA, where the 40,000-plus public employees who keep bad people and bad things off of airplanes have started voting this month on whether to join a union.
At New York's Albany International Airport on March 12, 2009, transportation security officer Smith was called into the office of the No. 2 TSA boss there, the assistant federal safety director for law enforcement..............
Stirring stories have been coming out of the non-stop media coverage of Libya for weeks, but perhaps the most shocking of Saturday's batch was that of Eman al-Obeidy. Five men were arrested Sunday in connection with the incident, which is surrounded with government officials smearing the woman's name, and reporters wondering whether they are being told the whole truth.
Al-Obeidy burst into a hotel full of foreign reporters in Tripoli Saturday and struggled to tell journalists details of her two-day gang-rape and torture at the hands of 15 men, while hotel staff yelled at her that she was a traitor. She showed reporters cuts and bruises on her face and legs, and wounds from binding around her ankles and wrists, and resisted removal from the hotel for nearly an hour while insisting that the men who raped her were militia men loyal to Gaddafi.
“I was tied up, and they defecated and urinated on me,” she said, according to the New York Times. “They violated my honor.”..........

TRIPOLI, Libya — A Libyan woman burst into the hotel housing the foreign press in Tripoli yesterday morning in an attempt to tell journalists that she had been raped and beaten by members of Moammar Khadafy’s militia. After struggling for nearly an hour to resist removal by security forces, she was dragged away from the hotel screaming. “They say that we are all Libyans, and we are one people,’’ said the woman, who gave her name as Eman al-Obeidy, barging in during breakfast at the hotel dining room. “But look at what the Khadafy men did to me.’’ She displayed a broad bruise on her face, a large scar on her upper thigh, several narrow and deep scratch marks lower on her leg, and marks that seemed to come from binding her hands and feet...............
this is NOT easy to watch, but please watch it. she is a hero.

In a bizarre event in the ongoing crisis in Libya, a distraught and disturbed Libyan woman sought out western reporters in a Tripoli hotel to claim she had been gang-raped for two days by fifteen members of a paramilitary force loyal to Moammar Gaddafi.
However, before she could tell the whole story, Iman al-Obeidi was dragged out of the Rixos hotel by Libyan officials and hotel employees.
The whole episode was captured on video (see below).
She alleged that she had been detained at a checkpoint, tied her up, sexually abused her and then led her away to be gang-raped.
"They tied me up ... they even defecated and urinated on me," she said. "The Gaddafi militiamen violated my honor."............
