Joe Miller thinks Social Security is ‘unconstitutional’ (but only for other people, not Joe himself)

by Richard Metzger
Slimy, Sarah Palin-endorsed, goon-squad hiring Republican Senatorial candidate from Alaska, Joe Miller’s got some s’plaining to do. It seems that Miller, who thinks Social Security, Medicare and jobless benefits are “unconstitutional” forgot to add that he meant only when other people receive them, not Joe himself! What will the Teabag weenie people think of this hypocritical fuckwit now?
Apparently, when a correspondent for Wonkette asked Miller a question about exactly what percent “disabled” he was from his military service—for which he would presumably recieve benefits—Miller promptly freaked out:
Looking away from your correspondent, Miller yelped to no one in particular, “We’ve gotta go!” He then pointed to his wife and said, “Let’s move!” The Millers hustled to the back of the vacant strip mall office next to the pizza place and surrounded themselves with campaign staffers.
This time, Miller’s phalanx of creepy skinheads dressed as Secret Service agents — last seen assaulting and restraining a local journalist — were nowhere around. Your correspondent was able to escape unscathed.
A West Point graduate who served in the first Gulf War, Miller boasts of his military record in his radio and teevee ads, yet refuses to discuss the nature or the degree of his service-connected disabilities; he receives monthly tax-free payments for life as compensation. If Miller is classified as 30% or more disabled, he receives additional payments for each of his nine dependents. This Veterans Administration benefits chart shows that Miller could conceivably be bringing in over $4,000 a month, tax free, depending on his disability rating.
He needn’t report or declare this income. What are the disabilities for which Joe Miller receives tax-free payments? A Post Traumatic Stress Disorder diagnosis should concern voters more than say, hearing loss.
Yet when asked, Joe Miller froze for a moment and then fled like a guilty child.
Nicely! It’s fascinating watching this tool’s candidacy implode.
Who would be dumb enough vote for this clown, now? The more we know about Joe Miller, the more craven he appears. Yuck.

Lillian McEwen breaks her 19-year silence about Justice Clarence Thomas
Washington Post Staff Writer
For nearly two decades, Lillian McEwen has been silent -- a part of history, yet absent from it.
When Anita Hill accused Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment during his explosive 1991 Supreme Court confirmation hearing, Thomas vehemently denied the allegations and his handlers cited his steady relationship with another woman in an effort to deflect Hill's allegations.
Lillian McEwen was that woman.........

.............
Given that history, she said Hill's long-ago description of Thomas's behavior resonated with her.
"He was obsessed with porn," she said of Thomas, who is now 63. "He would talk about what he had seen in magazines and films, if there was something worth noting."
McEwen added that she had no problem with Thomas's interests, although she found pornography to be "boring."
According to McEwen, Thomas would also tell her about women he encountered at work. He was partial to women with large breasts, she said. In an instance at work, Thomas was so impressed that he asked one woman her bra size, McEwen recalled him telling her....................

Alaska candidate’s ‘security’ firm allegedly tied to extremist militia

By Muriel Kane

Alaska Senate candidate Joe Miller's use of private security guards who "arrested" and handcuffed a blogger-journalist following a Miller campaign event on Sunday is continuing to raise questions about the candidate's affiliations.
The latest allegation, which comes from a team of Alaskan bloggers, is that Dropzone Security Services and its owner William F. Fulton -- who led the security detail that detained Alaska Dispatch editor Tony Hopfinger -- are closely tied in with the so-called Alaska Citizens Militia and its leader, right-wing extremist Norm Olson..............

Latinos only? Fla. immigration law exempts Canadians, Europeans
By Daniel Tencer
A proposed Florida immigration law that mimics the controversial one in Arizona has a provision in it that exempts Canadians and citizens of many European countries from tougher police scrutiny, prompting critics to say the law is blatantly targeted at Latinos.
Under the Florida law proposed by Attorney General Bill McCollum and state Rep. William Snyder, police would be obliged to look into an individual's immigration status if the officer has "reasonable suspicions" the person may be in the country illegally..............

Pentagon plans $60 billion weapons sale to Saudi Arabia

Washington Post Staff Writer

The Defense Department has notified Congress that it wants to sell $60 billion worth of advanced aircraft and weapons to Saudi Arabia. The proposed sale, which includes helicopters, fighter jets, radar equipment and satellite-guided bombs, would be the largest arms deal to another country in U.S. history if the sale goes through and all purchases are made.
Congress has 30 days to review the sale before the Pentagon and the weapons makers go into more detailed contract discussions with Saudi Arabia. Congress is expected to review the deal when it is back in session after the elections............

Joe Miller's private "guards" were active-duty military

By Glenn Greenwald

One of the more disturbing election incidents took place in Alaska on Sunday night, when private "guards" working for GOP Senate nominee Joe Miller forcibly detained and handcuffed a journalist as he tried to ask the candidate questions which he did not want to answer..............

...................But revelations today have made the story much, much worse still.  ADN now reports that not only was Joe Miller's excuse for why he had hired private guards a lie, but two of the guards who handcuffed the journalist and threatened others are active-duty soldiers in the U.S. military:.........

Would-be congressman Daniel Webster tried to ban happy hour
By Sahil Kapur
Daniel Webster, the Republican challenger to Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL), introduced legislation in 1991 that would have banned bars across Florida from holding happy hours.
Webster, who served in the Florida legislature between 1980 and 2008, filed a bill in January 1991 that sought to prohibit selling alcohol on discount and ban "drinking games" and "contests" at bars. The measure was highlighted by Grayson's campaign on an affiliated Web site, RejectWebster.com...........

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

i don't even know what to say here.

you CANNOT change history to suit yourselves. you cannot say humans and dinosaurs lived at the same time. you cannot say the earth is 3 or 5,000 years old. AND you cannot say a ton of slaves (for what WERE black men in virginia at the time of the civil war?) fought on the side of the confederacy. it just isn't true. NONE of it

just because i read on the internet people are experimenting and put actual human brains in mice, DOESN'TFUCKING MAKE IT SO

Virginia 4th-grade textbook criticized over claims on black Confederate soldiers
By Kevin Sieff
Washington Post Staff Writer

A textbook distributed to Virginia fourth-graders says that thousands of African Americans fought for the South during the Civil War -- a claim rejected by most historians but often made by groups seeking to play down slavery's role as a cause of the conflict.
The passage appears in "Our Virginia: Past and Present," which was distributed in the state's public elementary schools for the first time last month. The author, Joy Masoff, who is not a trained historian but has written several books, said she found the information about black Confederate soldiers primarily through Internet research, which turned up work by members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Scholars are nearly unanimous in calling these accounts of black Confederate soldiers a misrepresentation of history..........

Justice’s wife asks Anita Hill for apology

Brandeis professor stands by testimony

By Bryan Bender

WASHINGTON — When Anita Hill arrived at her Brandeis University office on Columbus Day, she had an unexpected phone message waiting.

“Initially, I thought this might be a prank,’’ said the woman who became a household name in 1991 when she accused then-US Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment and ignited a fierce national debate about gender relations in the workplace.
On Hill’s voice mail was a message from Justice Thomas’s wife, Virginia.
“Good morning, Anita Hill, it’s Ginni Thomas,’’ according to the message, a transcript of which was provided to the Globe and confirmed by Hill. “I just wanted to reach across the airwaves and the years and ask you to consider something. I would love you to consider an apology sometime and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband.’’...........

GOP lawmaker: Illegal immigrants are like ‘Hitler’, should be shot
By Stephen C. Webster

Georgia's Republican State Rep.John Yates has a position on immigration that almost nobody would agree with: he wants US border agents empowered to "shoot to kill."
Asked to justify his position, Yates recently told a reporter in Atlanta that illegal immigrants are enemies of America who must be dealt with severely.

In Hannity’s America, Fox News Allows On-Air Fundraisers For Republicans

by Steve Krakauer

No one will ever accuse Sean Hannity of being fair and balanced, but earlier this week he took his support of Republicans to a new level – blatantly using his program to help his buddy, and former colleague, John Kasich fundraise for his Ohio Governor race.
The problem is not what Hannity did. It is that Fox News allowed it to happen.
David Zurawik of the Baltimore Sun has an excellent column up about the interview. “There isn’t a reputable mainstream newspaper in the country that lets its editorial page be used for partisan fund raising,” he wrote. “What Hannity allowed Kasich to do on his show Thursday crosses the line as to what’s acceptable for any news organization, and we all know it isn’t the first Hannity time has done this.”..............

Colorado GOP candidate compares being gay to alcoholism
By David Edwards

The Republican Senate candidate from Colorado was put on the defensive Sunday after he compared being gay to the disease of alcoholism.
In a debate on Meet the Press, Buck told NBC's David Gregory that being gay, like alcoholism, was not completely determined at birth.
GREGORY: Do you believe that being gay is a choice?
BUCK: I do.
GREGORY: Based on what?...........................

Republicans, Democrats who criticized stimulus wrote letters seeking funds
By John Solomon and Aaron Mehta
Center for Public Integrity

Rep. Pete Sessions, the firebrand conservative from Texas, has relentlessly assailed the Democratic stimulus efforts as a package of wasteful "trillion-dollar spending sprees" that was "more about stimulating the government and rewarding political allies than growing the economy and creating jobs."
But that didn't stop the Republican lawmaker from seeking stimulus money behind the scenes for the Dallas suburb of Carrollton after the GOP campaign against the 2009 stimulus law quieted down.
Sessions wrote Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood in February urging him to give "full and fair consideration" to the affluent city's request for $81 million for a rail project, according to a copy of the letter obtained by the Center for Public Integrity. His letter suggested that the project would create jobs, undercutting his public arguments against the stimulus.................

Police chief who sent ‘shoot Obama’ email fired over vacation time
By Daniel Tencer
Emails were sensitivity training course materials, chief argued
A south Florida police chief who found himself under fire for sending numerous racist and otherwise offensive emails -- including one lamenting that President Obama wasn't shot by his security detail -- has been forced to resign.
But it wasn't Police Chief Richard Perez's abusive emails that cost him his job. According to news reports this week, Perez was given an ultimatum -- resign or be fired -- after an internal investigation at the Wilton Manors, Florida, police department found Perez had been paid for time off he hadn't reported.
Last month, an investigation by the South Florida Times found that racist emails, including some targeting President Obama, were "circulated regularly" in the police department that serves the small city near Fort Lauderdale..............
