effed up and effing scary

i do NOT want these people as my neighbors. to me, they are MORE frightening than any foreign terrorist.
The Secret World of Extreme Militias
By Barton Gellman

Camouflaged and silent, the assault team inched toward a walled stone compound for more than five hours, belly-crawling the last 200 yards. The target was an old state prison in eastern Ohio, and every handpicked member of Red Team 2 knew what was at stake: The year is 2014, and a new breed of neo-Islamic terrorism is rampant in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio ... The current White House Administration is pro-Muslim and has ordered a stand-down against Islamic groups. The mission: Destroy the terrorist command post — or die trying. The fighters must go in "sterile" — without name tags or other identifying insignia — as a deniable covert force. "Anyone who is caught or captured cannot expect extraction," the briefing officer said.
At nightfall the raiders launched their attack. Short, sharp bursts from their M-16s cut down the perimeter guards. Once past the rear gate, the raiders fanned out and emptied clip after clip in a barrage of diversionary fire.............

if this doesn't make you sick.....

then you're sick. it's unbelievable in 2010 (or ANY year for that matter) this type of thing can and does happen. it's unbelievable there are people foaming at the mouth, many of whom are 'religious' leaders, who spew filth about people who happen to be gay. being gay is nothing. it's like being straight. it should mean NOTHING to you when you're sizing up a person. a person is either a good person or not. has nothing to do with sexuality, skin color, gender or whatever. once again i must say it's a shame i don't believe in hell because i'd love to imagine the perps of this horrendous act BURNING FOREVER IN IT

Lured Into a Trap, Then Tortured for Being Gay
All punishment, the police said Friday, for being gay.
There were nine attackers, ranging from 16 to 23 years old and calling themselves the Latin King Goonies, the police said. Before setting upon their 30-year-old victim, they had snatched up two teenage boys whom they beat, the police said — until the boys — one of whom was sodomized with a plunger — admitted to having had sex with the man..........

From left Nelson Falu,18, Ildefonzo Mendez, 23, David Rivera, 21, are three of the seven who have been arrested for attacking two teenagers and a 30-year-old man they suspected of being gay, the police said.

Fundamentalists Ruin Everything.
by Jill

Danny Branover, Basil’s principal owner, was struck by that when in 2001 he moved from Jerusalem to Crown Heights, which he chose because he, his wife and their children — he has seven now — belong to the Lubavitch movement. He remembers thinking that its Jewish and black residents were more estranged than the Jews and Arabs in Israel, who, he notes, have profound political differences and much more reason to distrust one another. That confounded him.
“I talk to anybody,” Branover says. His father, a Russian physicist, joined the Lubavitch movement as an adult, while his mother, along with many other relatives, never embraced religion with quite the same fervor. “I like interacting with people. It was very annoying.”....................

(i dunno, i'm thinking MASSIVE headache from carrying that all around)

here's my take on this

i know if the genders were reversed and a man published a listing ranking the women he slept with i'd be livid. i am livid about this as well.

i am a fairly private person when it comes to my relationships with people (friends as well as relationships that are a bit more intimate). even if something ends ugly, i do my utmost to respect the other person's privacy. it's important to me. VERY important to me.

it sickens me we have so little regard for one another. i'm no saint. i have hurt someone before and i know i'll do it again too. i just want to see a bit more respect out there AND a bit more manners too

Duke Winces as a Private Joke Slips Out of Control

Then the Internet seized on it. The thesis, written as a 42-page Power Point presentation, went viral. And students here again found their school in the middle of a sex-related scandal and annoyed at the power of the murky, borderless world of the Internet to wreak havoc and tarnish images.
“It makes me ashamed that the Duke name is attached to what she’s done,” Nicole Queathem, 22, a senior from St. Louis, said as she sat in the student union. “And it’s the age-old double standard: people are more critical of what she did because she’s a girl.”
The woman in question, Karen Owen, 22, who graduated this year from Duke, evaluated what she said were her sexual liaisons with 13 student-athletes during her years at the school, and she prepared a slide presentation, complete with pictures of her subjects and graphs ranking their performance........

this really DOES hit the nail on the head

i'm uncertain if it's local (CT) or national but there is a commerical out there now that is VERY close to this. it may even be for linda 'i promote women getting beaten up' mcmahon. not sure though.

it's a woman walking down a supermarket aisle with a shopping cart. she's whining about the GOVERNMENT taxing soda and sports drinks and the like. then she says there is NO NEED for that because SHE can make up her OWN mind about what is safe and what isn't safe (fair enough but we DO need to tax certain things. if not how are we going to pay fire departments. whoops some fire departments LET HOUSES BURN so why fucking pay them?)

you see i'm obsessed with this story

Rightwing Christian radio host: ‘Jesus would have let that house burn’
by Richard Metzger

Rightwing radio dolt, Bryan Fischer, the same idiotic asshat who said last month that the US should handle Muslims the way Germany handles neo-Nazis and who compares gay sex to terrorism, opened his big, dumb mouth again yesterday. Fischer declared on the American Family Association’s blog, after posiing the “What would Jesus Do?” question regarding the firefighters in Obion County, TN who let a family’s house burn to the ground, that JESUS WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME THING!
Is Fischer saying that the central figure of Christianity is a cold-hearted sociopath like he is… or what??? I do not recall anything in the Gospels about Jesus liking privatization or being a Rush Limabugh-listening “dittohead,” but maybe I fell asleep that week in Sunday school…
I’m not even going to put a link to his blog because I don’t want to send a complete dickhead like Bryan Fischer a lick of traffic, but the comments were, as you might’ve guessed, kinda priceless:
10/6/2010 2:05:46 PM
You’re as dumb as a box of hair, we get that. But do you really think Jesus would have stood by rather than lend his help, especially considering there were innocent pets inside? Everything you write flies in the face of what Christ taught, so it would seem you are not in any way qualified to determine what is Christian and what is not..................

CNN mocks Fox News for relying on ‘Bat Boy’ paper as source

By David Edwards and Muriel Kane
Weekly World News continues to stand by its original report
When Fox News fell for a tabloid story claiming that the City of Los Angeles was about to spend a billion dollars on jetpacks for its police and fire departments, not even CNN could resist making bad puns at their expense.
"This is the story of a news story that took off," CNN's Jeanne Moos began. "A story that got off the ground. Even though it was made up out of thin air. The joke's on FOX News, reporting on the Martin jet pack -- which does exist."
"The City of Los Angeles already ordered 10,000 jetpacks for its police, paramedics, and fire departments," Gretchen Carlson had gushed on Tuesday morning's Fox & Friends. "I'm all for buying stuff up to help the capitalism and all that, but states, do they have "$100,000 [per pack]?".............

more on the teaparty-esque system that let firefighers watch a house burn down

if this is how you want your whole government to run, you're in the WRONG COUNTRY. please don't forget this is AMERICA. BY the people FOR the people

National Review Writers Defend County Whose Subscription-Only Firefighters Watched Home Burn Down

 By Zaid Jilani

As ThinkProgress reported earlier this morning, South Fulton firefighters from Obion, Tennessee, last week stood by and watched as a family’s home burned down because their services were available by subscription only, and the family had not paid the $75 fee. As ThinkProgress noted, the case perfectly demonstrated conservative ideology, which is based around the idea of the on-your-own society and informs a policy agenda that primarily serves the well-off and privileged. Now, leading conservative authors from modern conservatism’s bulkhead magazine, The National Review, have come out in defense of Obion County firefighters’ policy of servicing rural citizens by paid subscription only.  ..........

O’Donnell once claimed to have ‘classified’ info on Chinese plot to ‘take over America’
By Stephen C. Webster

Republican tea party favorite Christine O'Donnell may really be her own worst enemy.
According to excerpts from a 2006 debate between she and other GOP candidates running for US Senate in Delaware, O'Donnell scoffed at a suggestion that the US and China could harbor friendly relations.
The actual letters of her response, republished Monday by the Associated Press, are eye-opening: and not for their informational content.
Explaining that China has a "strategic plan" to "take over America," O'Donnell insisted that the two nations simply could not be friends and that proponents of US-China relations are merely appeasing their enemy.............

More States Allowing Guns in Bars

NASHVILLE — Happy-hour beers were going for $5 at Past Perfect, a cavernous bar just off this city’s strip of honky-tonks and tourist shops when Adam Ringenberg walked in with a loaded 9-millimeter pistol in the front pocket of his gray slacks.
Mr. Ringenberg, a technology consultant, is one of the state’s nearly 300,000 handgun permit holders who have recently seen their rights greatly expanded by a new law — one of the nation’s first — that allows them to carry loaded firearms into bars and restaurants that serve alcohol.
“If someone’s sticking a gun in my face, I’m not relying on their charity to keep me alive,” said Mr. Ringenberg, 30, who said he carries the gun for personal protection when he is not at work.
Gun rights advocates like Mr. Ringenberg may applaud the new law, but many customers, waiters and restaurateurs here are dismayed by the decision..............

Too hot for homecoming

Dozens of girls wearing rather tame dresses are banned from a high school dance in Texas

By Tracy Clark-Flory

Teenage girls in Mesquite, Texas are raising hell after high school administrators turned them away from Saturday's homecoming dance -- all because they weren't dressed primly enough. According to reports, as many as 50 female students were banned because they showed up with too much leg or cleavage on display.
Now, there is certainly an element of teenage melodrama here. The Dallas Morning News, for instance, describes how one mother received such a hysterical call from her daughter that she assumed she had been in a car accident: "I could hear screaming and crying. My husband kept saying, 'Baby girl, calm down,' over and over." But, take look at some of the mild dresses that were deemed inappropriate (see the image above), and it's hard not to agree with 15-year-old Ebony: "It was called a Red Carpet Affair, but it was an unfair affair." (God I love teenage sass.).............

Mesquite High girls' dance dresses turn the wrong heads

Worst Persons in the World

The South Fulton, Tennessee Fire Department for this:
OBION COUNTY, Tenn. - Imagine your home catches fire but the local fire department won't respond, then watches it burn. That's exactly what happened to a local family tonight. A local neighborhood is furious after firefighters watched as an Obion County, Tennessee, home burned to the ground.
The homeowner, Gene Cranick, said he offered to pay whatever it would take for firefighters to put out the flames, but was told it was too late. They wouldn't do anything to stop his house from burning.
Each year, Obion County residents must pay $75 if they want fire protection from the city of South Fulton. But the Cranicks did not pay.
An entire house and everything in it is burned to the ground over $75. An atrocity.
It's actually a terrible glimpse into what privatized public services would look like.

Teen gets 12-month sentence for minor offense - and thug gets probation for raping her

15-year-old Ashley had no inkling of what was to come on the day in 2005 when she was in Manhattan Family Court on a minor charge.
"You want to believe everybody's good, everybody wants to help you," she told me last week.
A hulking juvenile counselor named Tony Simmons led her in handcuffs from the girls holding area to the elevator.
She expected Tyson, as Simmons was called, to bring her up to the courtroom where she was scheduled to be sentenced for filing a false police report.
Instead, the elevator descended to the basement. The 42-year-old counselor pulled down her pants and raped her with calm, practiced precision that made him all the more terrifying.
"He knew exactly what he was doing," Ashley said. "Everything."
When he was done, Simmons pulled her pants back up and the elevator ascended to the courtroom. He raised an extended index finger to his lips in a mute command for her to say nothing.....

David Sedaris, sharing his slights-of-life tales

Washington Post Staff Writer

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. -- Often when David Sedaris is bicycling alone along secluded Normandy roads of his adopted country, or when he is swimming laps in the neighborhood pool, his gray matter turns a few shades darker.
This is why he likes iPods. Instead of listening to the voice inside his head, he can listen, via podcast, to the pleasant liquid pitch of Terry Gross and whomever she happens to be interviewing. If he forgets the iPod, then he is left thinking about . . . about what, exactly?
"Everyone who has ever done me wrong. If I am in a swimming pool or on a bicycle, my thoughts turn to everyone who has Ever. Done. Me. Wrong."
His voice drops low, "wrong" left hanging in the air like a bitter semicolon. He is small, maybe 5-5, neatly ironed and tucked-in, and so he comes off like a malevolent wee mastermind..........
