Five myths about Sarah Palin
By Matthew Continetti

Think you know Sarah Palin? The former Alaska governor has been in the spotlight ever since John McCain named her as his running mate on Aug. 29, 2008. Yet, while practically everybody has an opinion about Palin, not all of those opinions are grounded in reality. Many of them are based more on a "Saturday Night Live" caricature than on the living, breathing, 46-year-old mother of five. The real Sarah Palin is a complex woman who has risen in no time from obscurity to the stratosphere of American politics, fusing celebrity and populism in novel ways. Now that she's laying the foundation for a possible presidential run in 2012, it's worth taking a moment to separate the facts about Palin from the fables.

again and again and again (and because women are not subject to enough violence)

more proof there is still NO equality out there.  were these young 'men' hatched? OR, like the rest of us, were they born of women? do they have a mom? a sister? an aunt? a woman friend? no, it's not ok to run around yelling no means yes. rape is in no way funny. NONE

so yale dke, FUCK  YOU (and goddess help me if i drive on down there. no, not threatening violence. i'm threatening my sheer presence which can be  quite formidable when i want it to be)

Yale Fraternity stoops to new low

By Miriam

Fraternity’s don’t have the best reputation on college campuses for upstanding behavior or respect of women, but this takes it to another level.
Beginning around 9:30 pm, members of the DKE fraternity marched with their pledges around Yale’s Old Campus (the home of almost all of Yale’s freshman women) chanting slogans such as “No means yes, yes means anal” and “My name is Jack, I’m a necrophiliac, I f— dead women, and fill them with my semen.”
Maturity at it’s best, no?..................

oh, one more thing, FUCK YOUR FUCKING APOLOGY TOO (me, i wouldn't be as gracious and accept it)

After the campus outcry sparked by Delta Kappa Epsilon’s inflammatory pledge ritual on Old Campus Wednesday night, the fraternity apologized to the Yale Women’s Center in a meeting in Linsly-Chittenden Hall Thursday night.
After the meeting, attended by four DKE brothers and five Women’s Center board members, both parties expressed optimism that they could construct a “productive relationship” in the future. Also present at the meeting was Melanie Boyd ’90, director of undergraduate studies for Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies and special adviser to both the Center and the Dean of Yale College on Gender Issues.................

the candidates are preaching some of these things (and this is only the tip of the iceberg)
mice with human brains
nazi 'reenactments'
racism
homophobic nonsense   (yet they previously OWNED gay clubs or buildings where gay clubs were, who preach family values yet have out of wedlock children* and send out pornographic videos and racist emails and even videos featuring bestiality)

In Debate, O’Donnell Likens Repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell To Adultery

By Igor Volsky

During this evening’s Delaware Senate debate, Christine O’Donnell — who has a spotty record on LGBT rights — repeatedly compared allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military to “adultery” and condemned the recent court decision which banned the military from enforcing the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy:
O’DONNELL: A federal judge recently ruled that we have to overturn Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. There are a couple of things we need to say about that............

in all seriousness, i'm sick and tired of baby steps.  this is one brave (and correct) judge. i am sick of our government being too fucking scared to DO anything about this. i'm guessing judge phillips ruling won't stand (very long). it's a step. i want GIANT steps, not  baby steps.

if one wants to serve their country one should NOT be denied service based on their sexuality. if one is qualified, one should be able to serve.

a gay person can defend this country just as well as a straight one

Judge ends military's 'don't ask' ban on gays

Washington Post Staff Writers

A federal judge ordered an immediate end Tuesday to the Pentagon's enforcement of its ban on openly gay service members, rejecting the Obama administration's argument that an injunction to stop the "don't ask, don't tell" policy might harm military readiness.
The ruling by U.S. District Judge Virginia A. Phillips in California marks the first time that the controversial policy - which forbids the military to ask about a service member's sexual orientation but retains a ban on gays serving openly - has been halted.
Leaders of the group that brought the suit celebrated the injunction, the latest in a series of recent court rulings that expand the rights of gay Americans to marry and serve in uniform.............

i thank the goddess

for their rescue and i hope and pray (sure i pray, but not how you think) for these miners and all miners to be safe.................i can't help but to think how they will be compensated.

someone was being interviewed on npr yesterday  who was familiar with the industry.  he said he had just talked to a man who was injured in a mine (a mine owned by the SAME company that owned the 33 miners mine) so badly he lost a leg. that man was just now getting ready to start receiving some benefits from the company. well that most likely is NOT going to happen because this particular mining company is most likely going to declare bankruptcy. it's a dirty and horribly dangerous business. i can't even imagine what they went through in their ordeal

as of 1:03 am, 3 of the 33 are out

Chile mine rescue begins with success
By Juan Forero and Jonathan Franklin

SAN JOSE MINE, CHILE - After 10 weeks in a dark, hot purgatory 2,000 feet underground, the first of 33 trapped miners was hoisted to freedom late Tuesday night, a rescue that was expected to mark the beginning of the end of a drama that captivated people worldwide. Florencio Avalos, 31, emerged in the cold of Chile's northern Atacama Desert just after midnight Wednesday (11 p.m. Eastern time), 69 days after he and his fellow miners were sealed in a cavern. They were trapped Aug. 5 when hundreds of thousands of tons of rocks collapsed on the gold and copper mine..............

Beck claims Feds paid to have cartoon mock him, apparently terrifying Mickey Mouse

By Stephen C. Webster
Fox News personality Glenn Beck is convinced that a recent YouTube clip, which used Disney character Donald Duck to mock his brand of bloviation, was funded by the Obama administration.
There is no evidence to support his claim. By all accounts, the fair-use video remix was pieced together by media activist Jonathan McIntosh, who published the clip to his blog on Oct. 2.
It features Donald Duck getting fired from his job, then turning to Glenn Beck's program for answers, only to be let down and sucked dry of his money, then mocked for being unemployed.
At the Stranger, Anthony Hecht raves that it "[c]aptures the strategy of the Glenn Becks of the world perfectly—manufacture rage, and then exploit the shit out of it for personal gain." World renowned film critic Roger Ebert linked to the toon at his blog, and Brad Friedman simply called it, "Duckin' brilliant.".......

Scarborough retracts false claim about lefty groups' disclosure. Will Rove and other righties do same?
 -Greg Sargent
I suppose this is par for the course. But perhaps it should be part of the discussion that right wing commentators who claim lefty groups and unions are running ads funded by anonymous donors -- just as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other righty groups are doing -- are just flat out lying.
This lie is so easily debunked that Joe Scarborough actually retracted it today on Morning Joe after making the claim and getting corrected. Will Karl Rove and Fox News and others spreading this falsehood or letting it go unchecked do the same?
Scarborough, during a discussion this morning of the Obama-and-Dem-versus-Chamber dust-up, called on President Obama to demand disclosure from unions and MoveOn, claiming "blatant hypocrisy."............

Rush: "[T]here is no equality" because "[s]ome people are just born to be slaves," while others are "self-starters"

LIMBAUGH: This is a tough thing to say, because a lot of people don't want to hear this, because it goes against everybody's desire that we all be the same, that there be no pain in life and that there be no suffering and that everybody do well and that everybody have what they want and so forth.
But there is no equality. You cannot guarantee that any two people will end up the same. And you can't legislate it, and you can't make it happen. You can try, under the guise of fairness and so forth, but some people are self-starters, and some people are born lazy. Some people are born victims. Some people are just born to be slaves. Some people are born to put up with somebody else making every decision for them...........

Why is This GOP House Candidate Dressed as a Nazi?

Joshua Green -

An election year already notable for its menagerie of extreme and unusual candidates can add another one: Rich Iott, the Republican nominee for Congress from Ohio's 9th District, and a Tea Party favorite, who for years donned a German Waffen SS uniform and participated in Nazi re-enactments. Iott, whose district lies in Northwest Ohio, was involved with a group that calls itself Wiking, whose members are devoted to re-enacting the exploits of an actual Nazi division, the 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking, which fought mainly on the Eastern Front during World War II. Iott's participation in the Wiking group is not mentioned on his campaign's website, and his name and photographs were removed from the Wiking website.

When contacted by The Atlantic, Iott confirmed his involvement with the group over a number of years, but said his interest in Nazi Germany was historical and he does not subscribe to the tenets of Nazism. "No, absolutely not," he said. "In fact, there's a disclaimer on the [Wiking] website. And you'll find that on almost any reenactment website. It's purely historical interest in World War II.".........

solomon burke, rip

here's an anecdote

i have always liked solomon. he was a blues musician. i LOVE the blues. i LOVE the blues above all other types of music (yes, even more than  yodeling if you can believe that).

the first and only time i saw my idol, van morrison, solomon burke was the opening act. i was really pissed. i didn't care WHO opened for van, i wasn't going to like them because they were in between ME and VAN.  well, solomon BLEW ME AWAY. he sat on his throne (he was a VERY big man) and he just sang. man, could i feel him.

i do have the joy of saying i saw him live. i think he was one of only a handful of people that could have gotten between me and mr morrison and he did so in such a way as to move my very soul.

rest in peace mr burke (who by the way was a mortician)

not too too much out there yet on his death, but it will come. should someone happen across my humble blog and this posting, i BEG YOU, please please please listen to some solomon burke. you won't be sorry and that IS  a promise.
