A 35-year-old, Filipino woman living and working Saudi Arabia, who was raped, is scheduled to be lashed 100 times by the state. "Camille" as she is being called, traveled to Saudi Arabia in the spring of last year in order to get a job as a janitor, reportedly to support her three children (ages 5, 14, and 15). After being raped by one of her coworkers in September, she was then imprisoned. Pregnant at the time, she actually miscarried in December behind bars. According to Truth/Slant:
In Saudi Arabia, all sex outside of marriage -- including rape and sexual assault -- can result in prison and lashings under their extreme interpretation of Sharia...,,,,,,,,,,,,,
In an Oct. 19, 2008, sermon, Johnson shared a story about a former BSSM student who moved to Washington State and started a ministry called the Dead Raising Team.
“DRT,” he repeated the acronym dramatically at several points during the story.
In a video of the sermon, Johnson said the team got approval from Mason County to be listed along with other county services and had been given badges so they can go behind police lines if there’s an accident or fatality. Johnson told the audience, who erupted in shouts of “come on, Jesus” and cheers, that there had been one resurrection so far........
but it is my personal opinion a GREAT deal of them are either 1) nuts OR 2) so missing something in their lives they follow whatever voice they hear first (i.e. cults OR teabaggin' it)
"A Stephens County man is behind bars on a rape charge.
Police said that when they served a search warrant, they uncovered evidence that now has federal officials looking into the case.
"We come home and those bastards want to talk about how we're domestic terrorists and a threat to this country. It makes me so angry," said Charles Dyer, who has been accused of committing rape.
Dyer has been charged with first degree rape. When police searched Dyer's home for evidence on that charge, they found a grenade launcher that matched the description of one of three that were reportedly stolen from an Army post in California.
More incriminating evidence against Dyer has surfaced in a YouTube video. The video shows Dyer, a former U.S. Marine, talking proudly about domestic terrorism. "Join the military?", said Dyer. "Depends on what you want to do with it. Me? Im going to use my training and become one of those domestic terrorists that you're so afraid of from the DHS reports."'
thanks for finding this lemmy. i had not seen it. i've sort of been offline for a day or two. the ONLY thing that surprises me is that 13 year old grrrl isn't married.
Jean Simmons, a radiant British actress who as a teenager appeared opposite Laurence Olivier in "Hamlet" and emerged a star whose career flourished in the 1950s and 1960s in such films as "Guys and Dolls, "Elmer Gantry" and "Spartacus," has died. She was 80.
Simmons, who won an Emmy Award for her role in the 1980s miniseries "The Thorn Birds," died Friday evening at her home in Santa Monica, said Judy Page, her agent. She had lung cancer.
"Jean Simmons' jaw-dropping beauty often obscured a formidable acting talent," Alan K. Rode, a writer and film historian, told The Times in an e-mail.
Plucked from a dance class by a talent scout at the age of 14, she had already made several movies before gaining attention for her portrayal of the young Estella in David Lean's film adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel "Great Expectations."..........
not alone mind you, but right up there in the front (but obviously hiding behind the curtain)
you know what? how the hell can people respect you if you believe in a man having his own planet, well being GOD of his own planet-full o' babes after he dies if you are too scared to claim your actions?
The Mormon church worked to hide its involvement in the 2008 effort to ban gay marriage in California, telling the Proposition 8 campaign that it wanted "plausible deniability" in its connections with the movement, documents revealed in a California courtroom Wednesday show.
In the seventh day of testimony in the landmark gay-marriage trial in San Francisco, lawyers for the gay-rights side presented emails showing "close links between the Proposition 8 campaign and leaders of the Catholic and Mormon churches," the Los Angeles Timesreported...........
and it's a real story too. why these people think they're NOT racists is beyond me. what actually do they think a racist is? oh i am NOT a racist.. i have no problems with people of color, they JUST CAN'T PLAY WITH MY TOYS
and does moose actually think white men can jump DON'T flip people off or DON'T carry guns (and worse)? wtf???????????????????????????????
A new professional basketball league called the All-American Basketball Alliance (AABA) sent out a press release on Sunday saying that it intends to start its inaugural season in June, with teams in 12 U.S. cities. However, the AABA is different from other sports leagues because only players who are “natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league.” AABA commissioner Don “Moose” Lewis insists that he’s not racist, but he just wants to get away from the “street-ball” played by “people of color” and back to “fundamental basketball.” Lewis cited the recent incidents of bad behavior by NBA players, implying that such actions would never happen with white players:
“There’s nothing hatred about what we’re doing,” he said. “I don’t hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here’s a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like.” [...]/..............
Mother of Rufus and Martha Wainwright died Monday after battle with cancer.
By James Montgomery
Canadian folk singer Kate McGarrigle — the mother of Rufus and Martha Wainwright and, along with her sister Anna, a celebrated performer in her own right — died Monday night after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 63.
McGarrigle was born in Montreal and began performing folk and roots music in the 1960s with the Mountain City Four, a group that also included Anna. The two began recording as a duo and made their debut with a self-titled 1975 album. Their musical partnership continued into the 2000s, and the sisters released 10 studio albums, recorded both in French and English. Their songs have been covered by the likes of Linda Ronstadt, Elvis Costello and Emmylou Harris. In 1993, they were awarded the Order of Canada, the nation's highest civilian honor.
Kate married American folk musician Loudon Wainwright III, and they had two children — son Rufus in 1973 and daughter Martha in 1976 — both of whom followed in their parents' footsteps. Though McGarrigle and Wainwright eventually divorced, they remained close friends and, joined by their children, recorded together on the McGarrigle Sisters' 1998 album The McGarrigle Hour................
i don't think ANYONE knows evil like these people (and no, i'm NOT talking about the haitians. i'm talking about the flush limbergers, the flat robertsons, the sean hannitys and now the wesley staffords)
The head of a Christian child sponsorship program says Haiti is a nation "that you can literally feel the evil in."
Dr. Wesley Stafford, president and CEO of Compassion International, told Focus on the Family that Haiti was a disaster before the earthquake ever struck.
Haiti ... has been a disaster in almost every way long before this ever struck. And it is a nation, between you and me, I guess, that Satan has had absolutely free reign in that nation. And while the missionary effort and the church effort has been enormous, this is a nation that you can literally feel the evil in it.
But then as the church lives out its faith, having come through this deep, deep valley, my great prayer is that there will be a great wave of healing and change in the nation of Haiti ... that could only come about through an interruption like this and only happen through the glory of God..........
John Travolta has announced that he will fly "volunteer ministers" from the Church of Scientology to Haiti, to help victims of the country’s devastating earthquake. "I hope that inspires others as well," Travolta told WYTV, an Ohio-based ABC affiliate. "It's needed."
Crisis Scientology like what Travolta’s doing is no new phenomenon. In the past, Scientologists have helped set up "detoxification" programs where firefighters work out, rest in saunas and take supplements that supposedly cleanse them of PCBs; And in the wake of 9/11, Scientologists were allowed to stay with workers from the Red Cross long after all other religious affiliations were told to leave. One former firefighter even told the New York Times, “It’s actually a pretty awesome program.”
Still, just how well these "healing" sessions work (if at all) is extremely unclear -- seemingly a question of "believing" or "not-believing." Witness a 2005 Washington Post story about Randy Meyers, a mechanic from Michigan and member of the Church of Scientology, who flew to India to help tsunami survivors (by touching them with a finger):.......
ABC News reports that high-powered rifle sights provided to the US Army and Marines by Michigan weapons maker Trijicon include coded references to Bible passages about Jesus Christ: The sights are used by U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and in the training of Iraqi and Afghan soldiers. The maker of the sights, Trijicon, has a $660 million multi-year contract to provide up to 800,000 sights to the Marine Corps, and additional contracts to provide sights to the U.S. Army.
U.S. military rules specifically prohibit the proselytizing of any religion in Iraq or Afghanistan and were drawn up in order to prevent criticism that the U.S. was embarked on a religious "Crusade" in its war against al Qaeda and Iraqi insurgents............
we knew this before. well some of us knew it and know it. i think those teabag heads conveniently forgot it. they're the 'patriots' while the rest of us are scum. how come it's ok for the constitution to be spit upon and laws to be broken BEFORE? how come they're not demanding JUSTICE for those actions? that's not democracy. that smacks of big brother
The FBI illegally collected more than 2,000 U.S. telephone call records between 2002 and 2006 by invoking terrorism emergencies that did not exist or simply persuading phone companies to provide records, according to internal bureau memos and interviews. FBI officials issued approvals after the fact to justify their actions.
E-mails obtained by The Washington Post detail how counterterrorism officials inside FBI headquarters did not follow their own procedures that were put in place to protect civil liberties. The stream of urgent requests for phone records also overwhelmed the FBI communications analysis unit with work that ultimately was not connected to imminent threats.
A Justice Department inspector general's report due out this month is expected to conclude that the FBI frequently violated the law with its emergency requests, bureau officials confirmed......................
The Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines' ship Independence of the Seas went ahead with its scheduled stop at a fenced-in private Haitian beach surrounded by armed guards, leaving its passengers to "cut loose" on the beach, just a few kilometers from one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the region's history. The ship's owners justified it as a humanitarian call, because the ship also delivered 40 palettes of relief supplies while its passengers frolicked on zip-lines and ate barbeque within the 12-foot-high fence's perimeter: ....................
.............
The decision to go ahead with the visit has divided passengers. The ships carry some food aid, and the cruise line has pledged to donate all proceeds from the visit to help stricken Haitians. But many passengers will stay aboard when they dock; one said he was "sickened".
"I just can't see myself sunning on the beach, playing in the water, eating a barbecue, and enjoying a cocktail while [in Port-au-Prince] there are tens of thousands of dead people being piled up on the streets, with the survivors stunned and looking for food and water," one passenger wrote on the Cruise Critic internet forum...............
at LEAST five or six times (the NUMBER mind you NOT the card itself), i saw this and immediately wanted to re-post it. i'm uncertain how the number was obtained (again and again and again) BUT IT WAS. any little bit of information certainly IS a help to us
This is probably my most useful/practical/important post of the week. Normally I avoid double-posting here any material I post at Neatorama; instead I just compile the posts weekly into a "linkdump." I do this as much to save time as for any ethical reason, but today I'm making an exception, because I want to make sure as many people as possible become aware of devices called skimmers................
Well, my constituency has spoken: a majority of you in the past few days voted for me to try out My New Pink Button ($29.95, free shipping), the temporary genital dye as reported about on Jezebel and elsewhere. Well, guess what? Just in time for a wild and crazy Friday night, it is delivered discreetly to my house..........
(i asshole, you really DIDN'T have to take this one for the team. really. this is way over what anyone should be expected to subject themselves to)
with a record like this, i sure would think twenty seven times BEFORE donating to the. hey, that's just ME though (it hits me in the pit of the stomach when someone who is fairly well off as i imagine wyclef to be (yeah i know he's had troubles in the past), pays themselves and a friend at least $410,000 from their charity. EVEN if it IS for 'services rendered')
as i said, the charity COULD be and most likely IS on the up and up but my money is going to a charity that uses MORE of the money to get where's it's needed
Star's charity repeatedly dissolved after failing to file reports
JANUARY 15--Musician Wyclef Jean's charitable foundation--now the recipient of many donations big and small in the wake of the Haiti earthquake--has repeatedly had its corporate status dissolved for failing to file required state disclosure reports, records show. As seen below, the Florida Division of Corporations has, on four separate occasions over the past five years, sanctioned the Yele Haiti Foundation (the charity was incorporated in Florida in 1998 as the Wyclef Jean Foundation, but formally changed its name two months ago). The longest involuntarily dissolution lasted 26 months, ending in November 2008 when Jean's organization provided Florida officials with overdue annual reports disclosing the identities of the group's officers and directors, its registered agent, and office address.............
all sorts of reporters are on the ground (while i think it is VERY important for the world to see the images of haiti and to hear the stories from the people themselves, it is so very much MORE important for AID TO GET IN THEIR). before i read this article, i did hear the americans had taken over the airport. fine. IF we can do the job best. turning back a field hospital airplane i'm guessing is NOT the best.
we need to get water, medical aid, food and shelter to the people of haiti (in my mind, that's the correct order too) NOW. we can have a giant pissing contest and find out who has a bigger penis LATER
PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI -- Food and water trickled to the stricken people of Haiti on Saturday, as a global aid operation struggled with frictions and confusion over who was in charge to bring relief to this crumbled, earthquake-ravaged city.
Four days after the 7.0-magnitude quake brought much of Port-au-Prince down on its residents Tuesday, a few signs of national survival flickered, even as some Haitians began an exodus out of the devastated capital and into the countryside.
But there were growing tensions over which country's planes were allowed to land here first, with each nation insisting its aid flight was a priority, according to an official involved in the relief operation.
France, Brazil and Italy were said to be upset, and the Red Cross said one of its planes was diverted to Santo Domingo, the capital of neighboring Dominican Republic.
The French government became so annoyed when a plane with an emergency field hospital was turned back Friday that foreign minister Bernard Kouchner lodged a protest with the State Department, according to the French ambassador to Haiti, Didier Le Bret........
