the saints are my second favorite football team of all time

after the steelers. BUT, i think i may change my mind and make them my FAVORITE team

how cool is scott fujita?

Reasons To Adore Sains Linebacker Scott Fujita

For one thing, he doesn't care if anyone calls him a "Pinko Communist Fag from Berkeley." Also:

1) He diplomatically but firmly opposed the message of the Tebow ad, which will air during the Super Bowl Fujita is playing in Sunday. "The idea of focusing on the family - who wouldn't agree with that?" he told The New York Times. "But the means of doing so, he and I might not see eye to eye all the way." Fujita was adopted, and his biological mother was a teenager when he was born. "I'm just so thankful she had the courage and the support system to be able to carry out the pregnancy," Fujita said. "I wouldn't expect that of everybody."

2) He lent his name to the National Equality March and has been outspoken about gay rights issues.

3) He supports an orphanage in New Orleans and started speaking out on gay rights in part because of his objection to laws limiting gay adoption. "What [such laws] are really saying is that the concern with one's sexual orientation or one's sexual preference outweighs what's really important, and that's finding safe homes for children," he has said. "It's also saying that we'd rather have kids bounce around from foster home to foster home throughout the course of their childhood, than end up in a permanent home.".............

Saints Linebacker Fujita Tackles Gay Marriage

Scott Fujita is known for many things — being a "big white guy with the Japanese last name." as he says; his dedication to charities and community service; and, more recently, his unapologetic views on gay rights.

Fujita was adopted as a child by his Japanese father and white mother, and he grew up in Southern California. Even though he is not ethnically Japanese, Fujita says he is Japanese in his heart. After a standout student-athlete career in high school, Fujita was recruited by the Ivies but decided to play for the University of California, Berkeley, as a walk-on player.

After going pro, Fujita played for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys before settling down with the New Orleans Saints in 2006, the season the team returned to the Big Easy following Hurricane Katrina. Since then, Fujita said, he's found his second home. His team named him Man of the Year in 20

Turkish girl, 16, buried alive for talking to boys

Death reopens debate over 'honour' killings in Turkey, which account for half of all the country's murders
Robert Tait in Istanbul

Turkish police have recovered the body of a 16-year-old girl they say was buried alive by relatives in an "honour" killing carried out as punishment for talking to boys.

The girl, who has been identified only by the initials MM, was found in a sitting position with her hands tied, in a two-metre hole dug under a chicken pen outside her home in Kahta, in the south-eastern province of Adiyaman.

Police made the discovery in December after a tip-off from an informant, the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported on its website.

The girl had previously been reported missing.

The informant told the police she had been killed following a family "council" meeting............

in other words, NO ONE is safe. in other words HOW 'CHRISTIAN' is this? in other words, MANY (rich white 'christian') americans have helped to shape this bill (because they KNOW they can't do it here, they're living surreptitiously there (plus it's ONLY going to apply to people of color after all, and they really don't matter too much to these good ol' whiteboyz, now do they?)

Uganda's Kill-the-Straight-Friends-of-Gays Bill

President Obama’s remarks today have drawn attention back to Uganda’s Kill-the-Gays bill. And the media still hasn’t gotten it right. Some conservatives offer the outright lie that it only intends to execute child molesters and people who deliberately spread HIV. The liberal media points out that the bill would also execute people who merely have gay sex more than once.

But the facts are much worse than that. I’ve written about this before, but it bears repeating. Here are two examples of people who could be put to death:

  • Someone who has gay sex once and doesn’t turn his partner in to the authorities.
  • A straight person who doesn’t turn in a gay friend after hearing about about a couple romantic evenings..........

she was 12

and she's dead. no, she wasn't hit by a car. no, she wasn't in a plane crash. no, she didn't drown. she was a maid AT 12, for a RICH employer. he said she fell down stairs AND then died from a "skin condition" (a skin condition????). can you imagine YOUR child having to work as a servant at 9, 10, 11, 12? well children DO have to work in many places all over the world (including haiti). it's up to us as human beings to put a stop to this. period (it is my belief when we start caring for others, ALL of our lives benefit. there is nothing that will convince me otherwise)
Bruised Maid Dies at 12, and Pakistan Seethes

LAHORE, Pakistan — The death already seemed like a bitter injustice. A maid died after unexplained injuries she got in the house of her rich employer. But one detail in particular has outraged Pakistanis: she was 12.

Her employer — a lawyer and a former head of the Lahore Bar Association — says she fell down stairs, and died Jan. 22 of complications from a skin disease. Her family claims she was tortured. The employer remains in police custody while they investigate the family’s charges.

Whatever the case, the death of Shazia Masih, a wisp of a girl from a bone-poor family, has served as a vivid reminder of the powerlessness of the poor in Pakistan............

Tea Party opening speaker suggests law that kept blacks be kept from voting be reinstated

By John Byrne

The opening night speaker at the Tea Party convention suggested a return to a "literacy test" to protect America from presidents like Obama -- a segregation-era method employed by southern US states to keep blacks from voting.

In his speech Thursday to attendees, former Republican congressman Tom Tancredo invoked the loaded pre-civil rights era buzzword, saying that President Barack Obama was elected because "we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote in this country."

Southern states used literacy tests as part of an effort to deny suffrage to African American voters prior to Johnson-era civil rights laws.

"Prior to passage of the federal Voting Rights Act in 1965, Southern (and some Western) states maintained elaborate voter registration procedures whose primary purpose was to deny the vote to those who were not white," a website for civil rights veterans explains. "In the South, this process was often called the 'literacy test.' In fact, it was much more than a simple test, it was an entire complex system devoted to denying African-Americans (and in some regions, Latinos) the right to vote.".............

Tancredo: Obama Elected Because 'We Do Not Have A Civics, Literacy Test'

Organizers of the National Tea Party Convention, who have been at pains to present their confab as a gathering of patriotic and mainstream Americans, may not have been pleased by the speech given by their opening-night speaker.

Former congressman Tom Tancredo declared that President Obama was elected because "we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote in this country." .........

DADT repeal a 'radical social experiment'

Oliver North, the former Marine implicated in the Iran-Contra scandal and current Fox News host, says allowing gays to serve openly in the military will lead to same-sex marriages in the military and the admission of pedophiles to the armed forces.

In an interview with Fox's Sean Hannity Thursday, North discussed what he sees as the implications of repealing the 17-year-old "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.

"Now, here's what's next. NAMBLA members, same-sex marriages," North said, referring to the North American Man-Boy Love Association, a group that advocates for pedophilia. "Are chaplains in the US military going to be required to perform those kinds of rituals? Do they [pedophiles and homosexuals] get government housing?"........

HAD to re-post this

i saw on boing boing

apparently it's from here
and a tiny bit more here (but this one takes FOREVER to load)

my two cents on the big ol; focus on your OWN damn family

ad and cbs on superbowl sunday

i don't give a flying fuck and neither should you EXCEPT for (as the article linked below says) cbs' DOUBLE STANDARD

90,000,000 (i believe that's the figure i heard on the radio yesterday) watch the superbowl. they're watching it because it's FOOTBALL. they're NOT watching for a focus on your OWN damn family commercial. i don't care how many football players and/or their moms make commercials. they can eat soup or they can espouse close-minded, my god or your burn in hell FOREVER, beliefs. no one gives a fuck. people DO watch the superbowl for ads. ads with funny animals or babes with big breasteseseseseseses. that sort of thing.

if ANYONE thinks this tim dude and focus on your OWN damn family can stop a woman's right to choose, they're sadly mistaken.

get over this. let them run the ad. oh, i'm pissed cbs isn't allowing OTHER ads (a gay dating site i believe was one of them although i may be wrong there). so, i'll show my displeasure to cbs. NOT for airing the focus ad, but for NOT being equal to others

oh and tim's mom HAD A CHOICE. i want our children TO HAVE A CHOICE TOO

Planned Parenthood Posts Pro-Woman Ad, Putting the Pressure on CBS

With Super Bowl Sunday only a few days away, the fight over Focus on the Family's overtly anti-choice ad featuring University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow is raging.

With Super Bowl Sunday only a few days away, the fight over Focus on the Family's overtly anti-choice ad featuring University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow is catching on. On Tuesday, Planned Parenthood released an ad of its own, featuring Olympic gold medalist Al Joyner and former NFL player Sean James defending a woman's right to choose. The online ad, which has gotten some 45,300 views on YouTube, steers clear of that particular phrase (let alone the word "abortion"), but it does present an effective rejoinder to Focus on the Family's "Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life" theme.

"I want my daughter to live in a world where everyone's decisions are respected," says Al Joyner.

"My mom showed me that women are strong and wise," says James. "She taught me that only women can make the best decisions about their health and their future."

The Planned Parenthood ad came out just as it was reported by Dana Goldstein at The Daily Beast that, according to a Focus on the Family spokesperson, not only did CBS agree to air the Tebow ad, it "has actually been working closely with CBS executives for months on the ad's script."...........

i wanted to post a link to this wapo story

for many reasons. one is; i've been putting off writing on this subject for a LONG time. i have to get my arse in gear and write. it's a subject i both know a bit about AND have had a change of feelings about as well.

it's a subject not many people know about. it's a subject that isn't brought up in polite company. it IS something that happens right next door to you though

i'm NOT talking about the 'sex-party' shite. it's something that is BEYOND sex for most. very much beyond.

Montgomery County sex-party host must role-play by the zoning rules
Washington Post Staff Writer

To understand how Paul Pickthorne got cross-wise with Montgomery County's land-use regulations, you'll need a glossary:

"R-60" is a zoning classification for subdivisions of single-family houses where commercial activity generally isn't permitted. The 6300 block of Tone Drive in Bethesda is such a place, a tidy street of mostly 1950s brick ranchers just across River Road from Walt Whitman High School.

"BDSM" is short for "bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism." Velvet whips, leather hoods, six-inch stiletto heels, that kind of thing. If you were into the BDSM scene and periodically threw BDSM parties in your home -- as Pickthorne, a burly, jovial Briton, does in the castlelike 3,600-square-foot McMansion he rents at 6304 Tone Dr. -- you'd attract quite a crowd.

"Section 59-C-1.31" is the zoning code provision you'd be violating by having said parties in an R-60 zone if the guests pay to get in, as they do (or used to) at Pickthorne's nocturnal get-togethers. His events draw dozens of people. The cost: $20 for a basic ticket, $50 for VIP treatment..............

...........orn in Baltimore, Maryland on November 10, 1903, Davis went to New York City in 1928 and worked as a circus barker, newsstand manager and undertaker. Completely unschooled in the arts, he began painting after seeing a gallery painting on 57th Street. He said, "I can paint like that" and went to the paint store. Within a few days, he completed a work which sold. He is referred to as the city primitive. Discovered by a collector, he was featured at the Museum of American Folk Art. At first he painted only buildings but found that more popular were scenes with people. None of them are ever in a hurry. There is a sense of peace and joy and civility."

Oral Sex, a Knife Fight and Then Sperm Still Impregnated Girl

A strange tale of oral sex, a knife fight and the most unlikely of pregnancies recently brought to light by the blogosphere has doctors touting the triumphant persistence of sperm.

In 1988, a 15-year-old girl living in the small southern African nation of Lesotho came to local doctors with all the symptoms of a woman in labor. But the doctors were quickly puzzled because, upon examination, she didn't have a vagina.

"Inspection of the vulva showed no vagina, only a shallow skin dimple," so doctors delivered a healthy baby boy via Caesarean, the authors wrote in a case report published in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Her birth defect -- called Mullerian agenesis or Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome -- didn't necessarily surprise doctors, but her pregnancy did. Even the 15-year-old girl could not believe she was pregnant............

A woman with a birth defect that left her without a vagina still got pregnant after she was stabbed shortly following oral sex with her partner. Doctors say the bittersweet story shows the incredible survival of sperm.

Rush Limbaugh: 'I love the women's movement -- especially when walking behind it'
BY Neil Nagraj

After a career spent battling the feminist movement, Rush Limbaugh took to the air today declaring, "I love the women’s movement — especially when walking behind it."

The conservative firebrand appearing on "Fox and Friends," defended his participation as a judge in last week's Miss America pageant.

"So for those who were critics of you in judging this pageant, and saying that you haven’t been a supporter of women in the past?" host Gretchen Carlson, the winner of 1989's Miss America pageant, asked.

"Oh, I’m a huge supporter of women. What I’m not a supporter of is liberalism. Feminism is what I oppose, and feminism has led women astray. I love women. I don’t know where all this got started," Limbaugh replied.............

ACLU: Miami Beach cops arrest people for recording police misconduct

By Daniel Tencer
'We're sick of all the f***ing fags in the neighborhood,' cops allegedly told gay man

Miami Beach has long had a reputation for being a refuge for gay Americans, but if the ACLU's allegations against the city prove true, people who live alternative lifestyles may want to think twice about retiring to the vibrant little community just off the coast of southern Florida.

The ACLU's Florida chapter says it plans to sue the Miami Beach Police Department after a gay visitor to the city was beaten and arrested by police when he tried to call 911 to report the police beating of another gay man.

According to the NBC affiliate in Miami, Harold Strickland says he was harassed, verbally assaulted and wrongfully arrested in March, 2009, when he called 911 after witnessing two police officers kicking a handcuffed gay man in Miami Beach's Flamingo Park............

i don't. i think they're far more lenient than i would have been.

i'm also mad at people who pay money to people like ray. it goes for 'self help' groups but it goes for religions too. people have such big holes in their souls, they'll try ANYTHING to fill them. my advice to all you peeps is, love yourself first, then love for others follows easily. do volunteer work. help SOMEONE else for a change. make weekly visits to the elderly. work at a soup kitchen. work at a women's shelter. rock preemies. KNIT for preemies. hell there are tons of things you can do that will help you with your OWN lives. Self-help guru arrested in Arizona sweat lodge deaths

James Arthur Ray is charged with three counts of manslaughter in connection with the 'Spiritual Warrior' retreat near Sedona in October.

Reporting from Los Angeles and Denver - Self-help guru James Arthur Ray was arrested Wednesday and charged with three counts of manslaughter in connection with an Arizona sweat lodge ceremony that left three people dead in October.

Ray was taken into custody at his attorney's office in Prescott, Ariz., a sheriff's spokesman said, and taken to the Yavapai County jail in Camp Verde. Bond has been set at $5 million. He is to appear in court Thursday.

The charges are linked to the last day of Ray's five-day $9,695-a-person "Spiritual Warrior" retreat near Sedona, where he assembled about 50 people in a makeshift, sauna-like sweat lodge for about two hours.

When it was over, three people were dying. Eighteen others suffered burns, dehydration, respiratory arrest or kidney failure.

In a statement, Ray's attorney called the charges unjust..........

Behold! The Prairie Chicken

By Queuebot

The Conservation Fund recently featured this video on their Web site in a piece about their work saving land for the Greater Prairie-Chicken. Who knew this bird was so beloved in American culture? And so quirky!

“Many Native American tribes perform prairie chicken dances, Laura Ingalls Wilder mentions them more than once in her Little House on the Prairie series and then there’s the world’s largest prairie chicken—a 13-foot tall statue—in the town of Rothsay, the self-proclaimed prairie chicken capital of Minnesota. There’s a prairie chicken capital of the world, too: Cassoday, Kansas. Prairie chicken festivals are held throughout the Midwest, perhaps the biggest is the annual Central Wisconsin Prairie Chicken Festival.”..........

Goa's tourism boss links sexual assaults to bikinis

by Jason Overdorf - GlobalPost

NEW DELHI, India — Once upon a time, the beaches of Goa were known for free love. But as a string of high-profile sexual assaults on tourists culminated in the alleged rape of a 9-year-old Russian girl last week, the idyllic strip of sand along the Arabian Sea is fast gaining a fearful reputation.

The answer? According to the state's ministry of tourism, those cute pre-teens in two-pieces are asking for it.

“You can't blame the locals; they have never seen such women. Foreign tourists must maintain a certain degree of modesty in their clothing. Walking on the beaches half-naked is bound to titillate the senses,” New Delhi's Mail Today newspaper quoted Pamela Mascarhenas, Goa's deputy director of tourism, as saying Friday.

GlobalPost could not reach Mascarhenas for comment. But a spokesman for the Goa tourism department confirmed that — far from marking a departure from official policy — the official's remark echoed previous statements by the tourism minister himself............

The Women Of Black History: Artists & Writers

(here's one. click on the link for more)

Lucy Parsons (1853 - 1942)

Lucy Parsons was a legendary anarchist and activist for labor rights. Coming from a mixed heritage of Mexican, African, and Native American, this woman led people to fight for their rights, regardless of gender and race. She was considered by the Chicago police of the mid-to-late 1800s to be more virulent than a full-blown riot.

Parsons was born in 1853, most likely as a slave, in Texas. Twenty years later, she and her husband, Albert, moved to Chicago. She started writing pieces for The Socialist, and in 1883 helped found the International Working People’s Association. She and Albert started organizing workers to protest against cruel work conditions and to advocate for shorter work days.

In 1886, the two became involved in the infamous Haymarket Affair. Fellow anarchists and labor activists called a meeting in Haymarket Square. As the peaceful gathering was coming to a close, someone threw a bomb into the crowd, inciting a violent reaction by the police that resulted in seven police officer deaths and over 60 police injuries. Countless civilians were also injured and killed.

Albert, as well as seven others, was incarcerated for being anarchists. He was one of four who were hanged for their supposed crimes, despite Parsons’ tireless efforts to rally support for his release.

Parsons was also famous for pleading the case of the African-American and stated in various letters and articles that African-Americans were victimized for being poor. She believed that racism would end with the death of capitalism, and later joined the Communist Party. Her years of fighting for civil rights finally ended in 1942, when she perished in a fire in her home in Chicago.

The Many Faces of Palin’s Facebook

(Jeanne Devon)

Remember how I and my fellow bloggers Shannyn Moore and Linda Kellen-Biegel are taking money from George Soros on behalf of Barack Obama that’s funneled through secret off-shore accounts? Yeah, we’re on the payroll because Obama was terrified and couldn’t handle the brilliance and political acumen of Sarah Palin. They just know, if given a fair shake that she would have been the new Dick Cheney. And they also know that three Alaskan bloggers on the Soros/Obama payroll ash-canned her chances at the gold ring. Dang those bloggers!

Or so the story went. You can enjoy the original 5-minute YouTube classic that started it all, in a minute.

The “Girls from Alaska” video is especially amusing now that we know that the only bloggers on the payroll were being paid by Sarah Palin. Apparently Sarah Palin, through SarahPAC, has actually been doling out cash to major pro-Palin bloggers to write her Facebook page so she doesn’t have to. Because keeping up a Facebook page is just too much responsibility when she’s up to her neck in… well, she’s really busy with… um. And then there’s the uh…thing. She’s got stuff to do, OK?..........

His slideshow of next-gen skimmers has me convinced that there's no way I'd notice a skimmer on an ATM that I was using: "According to Doten, the U.S. Secret Service estimates that annual losses from ATM fraud totaled about $1 billion in 2008, or about $350,000 each day. Card skimming, where the fraudster affixes a bogus card reader on top of the real reader, accounts for more than 80 percent of ATM fraud, Doten said."

Pope Benedict attacks government over Equality Bill

The Pope has urged Catholic bishops in England and Wales to fight the UK's Equality Bill with "missionary zeal".

Pope Benedict XVI said the legislation "violates natural law" and could end the right of the Catholic Church to ban gay people from senior positions.

The Pope has confirmed he will visit the UK this year, the first since Pope John Paul II in 1982.

The government said the bill, which is currently going through Parliament, would make the UK a fairer place.

And gay rights campaigners have condemned the Pope's comments.

Artist photoshops superheroes into historical scenes

If Agan Harahap's goal is to make history entertaining, he has succeeded. It's hard not to crack a smile when you check out his reimagination of the Yalta Conference, which includes a wayward Jedi knight. That photo comes from the 29-year-old artist's "Superhero" series, which consists of superheroes (and supervillains) Photoshopped into historical settings.

"Everybody is so serious when they learn and discuss history," Harahap told Asylum. "I just want to have some fun with it and make everybody smile.".........

CIA moonlights in corporate world
By: Eamon Javers

In the midst of two wars and the fight against Al Qaeda, the CIA is offering operatives a chance to peddle their expertise to private companies on the side — a policy that gives financial firms and hedge funds access to the nation’s top-level intelligence talent, POLITICO has learned.

In one case, these active-duty officers moonlighted at a hedge-fund consulting firm that wanted to tap their expertise in “deception detection,” the highly specialized art of telling when executives may be lying based on clues in a conversation.

The never-before-revealed policy comes to light as the CIA and other intelligence agencies are once again under fire for failing to “connect the dots,” this time in the Christmas Day bombing plot on Northwest Flight 253.

  • This article is adapted from the author's forthcoming book, 'Broker, Trader, Lawyer, Spy: The Secret World of Corporate Espionage.'

But sources familiar with the CIA’s moonlighting policy defend it as a vital tool to prevent brain-drain at Langley, which has seen an exodus of highly trained, badly needed intelligence officers to the private sector, where they can easily double or even triple their government salaries. The policy gives agents a chance to earn more while still staying on the government payroll. ............

1 Feb 2010 // Washington, D.C. - Today, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) urged President Obama and all members of Congress not to attend this year’s National Prayer Breakfast, scheduled for February 4, 2010. The breakfast, designed to appear as if government-sanctioned, actually serves as a meeting and recruiting event for the shadowy Fellowship Foundation.

The Fellowship, also known as “The Foundation” and “The Family,” is run by Doug Coe, a spiritual advisor to past government officials who uses the organization to push his unorthodox brand of Christianity within government circles. The Fellowship operates the infamous C Street House, a congressional residence and meeting place on Capitol Hill that has been a frequent haunt of some ethically challenged elected officials, including Sens. John Ensign (R-NV) and Tom Coburn (R-OK), Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS) and former-Rep. and now-Gov. Mark Sanford (R-SC)....................

Anne Frank's diary is back on Culpeper schools' reading list

Washington Post Staff Writer

The Culpeper County school superintendent said Monday that the school system had never formally removed a version of Anne Frank's diary from classrooms following a parental complaint that some passages were objectionable. Director of instruction James Allen last week told The Washington Post that the definitive edition of the diary would not be used in the future and that the decision was made quickly, without adhering to a formal review policy for instructional materials that prompt complaints. The remarks set off a hailstorm of criticism online and brought international attention to the 7,600-student school system in rural Virginia...........

The Golden Girls: How One TV Show Turned A Generation Of American Boys Into Homosexuals

The Golden Girls television program was never much to look at. A foursome of Florida geriatrics getting agitated about pharmacy bills and shoulder pads– who could ever find such a thing interesting? But somehow these perky and absurd women wormed their ways into America’s homes for an 8-year run in the 1980s. Maybe it was our desire to see our grandmothers having fun that encouraged us to watch. Maybe we wanted to believe old age wasn’t dominated by infections and hip problems, loneliness and crushing depression before death finally stomps us out like the acrid end of a damp cigarette.

The most unexpected segment of this show’s fanbase was America’s young men. In the 80s, these were boys too delicate for sports, too awkward for girls, too “artistic” for labor-intensive work and too flamboyant for peer acceptance in high school. With no real adults in sight, these poor children became obsessed with the poorly conceived characters on this show. Desperate for a firm hand in their lives, they gravitated to the subversive undercurrent of masculinity in these aged matrons...........
