Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network posted a blog by Kimberly Daniels recently that warns Christians to forgo celebrating Halloween because of its evilness. Daniels specifically calls out candy as a source of soul-molestation:

"During this period demons are assigned against those who participate in the rituals and festivities. These demons are automatically drawn to the fetishes that open doors for them to come into the lives of human beings. For example, most of the candy sold during this season has been dedicated and prayed over by witches."

Obviously, we shouldn't be buying Halloween candy, but what about getting it by trick-or-treating?

Stewart's mock endorsement of mock duck came on the same day as an anti-tofurkey tirade from Glenn Beck, who echoed Lou Dobbs' recent condemnation of the Meatless Monday campaign adopted by Baltimore's school cafeterias as a form of "indoctrination":

"Americans love our steaks, we love our chops, we love our burgers, and you'll throw me in jail, my last meal will be a giant steak. Are we going to stand for that? Are we going to put up with this? Well, you'd think not, but in Baltimore, Md., public schools have now started, in the schools -- no indoctrination here -- Meatless Monday. "We are outraged that this happened," Richmond Mayor Gayle McLaughlin told reporters Tuesday.

Overnight, Richmond police served search warrants at the homes of several suspects and arrested three people, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to five.......

When a gay Wyoming college student was slain in 1998, congressional Democrats pledged to broaden the definition of federal hate crimes by the end of that year to include attacks based on sexual orientation.

The effort instead turned into a decade-long proxy war between liberal groups that want to expand gay rights and conservative groups that do not. But Wednesday, President Obama signed the bill and then hosted a White House reception for gay activists and the parents of the slain student, 21-year-old Matthew Shepard.

"After more than a decade of opposition and delay, we've passed inclusive hate crimes legislation to help protect our citizens from violence based on what they look like, who they love, how they pray or who they are," Obama said after the signing...............

President Obama today signed the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010 around noon, Pacific time. The DOD bill includes the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act. Just before the signing, President Obama acknowledged the Shepards and the family of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy who made passage of the hate crimes bill a priority.

This national hate crimes bill that includes sexual orientation and gender identity has been a long time coming, starting in 1982 with Kevin Berrill’s antigay violence project at the national Gay Task Force. In 1988, U.S. Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) introduced the Hate Crimes Statistics Act, which required the Justice Department (the FBI) to collect and publish data about crimes motivated by hatred based on race, religion, ethnic origin and/or sexual orientation. The Hate Crime Statistics Act of 1990 28 U.S.C. § 534, [1] was signed into law in 1990 by President George H. W. Bush and became the first federal law to recognize and name gay, lesbian and bisexual people.

There were problems, of course. Transgender people were not recognized and as the FBI reports were published, it turned out some states such as Alabama had NO hate crimes based on sexual orientation to report. Work began on expanding the hate crimes law to include transgenders and give the Attorney General the power to “assist” local law enforcement in the investigation, prosecution and enforcement of hate crime laws. ............

Every single boy/thug who stood watching this and likely egging on the rapists should be expelled straight away as they are a danger to other female students. Two of the actual rapists are already in custody, one of whom appears to have landed himself there by bragging (yeah, something really to proud about, raping a 15 year old girl as part of a gang rape is a badge of a real man, right?)...............

These are among the items that abortion foes plan to auction on eBay and other Web sites in a fundraiser for Scott Roeder, the Kansas City man charged with killing Wichita abortion doctor George Tiller.

“This is unique,” said Regina Dinwiddie, a Kansas City anti-abortion activist who will sign the bullhorn. “Nobody’s ever done this before. The goal is that everybody makes money for Scott Roeder’s defense.”

Controversy is swirling around the University of Kentucky because a group of wealthy donors, known as the Promise Keepers, are offering $7 million to build a new dorm for men's basketball players. The donors want the word "coal" in the name of the new building.

Opponents say the school would be selling out to coal interests if student-athletes are forced to live in corporate-branded housing. UK graduate student Martin Mudd told the campus newspaper, "I think that it’s a bit perverse to name it after an industry that historically has cared very little about the plight of citizens it employs, people it employs and certainly the effects the industry has on people and ecosystems all down the line."..............

A group of donors who have put up $7 million for a new residence for the University of Kentucky men's basketball team have required that "Coal" be its middle name.

On Tuesday, the board of trustees will take up a recommendation from UK President Lee T. Todd Jr. to approve what the agenda item describes as "the request." It already has been approved by the Committee on Naming University Buildings.

The new lodge is planned for what is now a parking lot just northeast of Memorial Coliseum.

UK spokesman Jimmy Stanton said the only donor the school has a formal agreement with is Joseph W. Craft III, who heads Alliance Coal and has given UK money in the past. The Joe Craft Center, a basketball practice facility, is named in his honor...........

Flu-wary telecommuters may clog Web networks, GAO says

As the spread of the H1N1 flu keeps more Americans away from work and school, a federal report warns that all those people logging on to the Web from home could overwhelm Internet networks.

The Government Accountability Office reported earlier this week that if the flu reaches a pandemic, a surge in telecommuting and children accessing video files and games at home could bog down local networks.

And if that were to happen, it is not clear whether the federal government is prepared to deal with the problem, the GAO said.

Church of Scientology convicted of fraud in France

A Paris court convicted the Church of Scientology of fraud and fined it more than euro600,000 ($900,000) on Tuesday but stopped short of banning the group as prosecutors had demanded.

The group's French branch immediately announced it would appeal the verdict.

The court convicted the Church of Scientology's French office, its library and six of its leaders of organized fraud. Investigators said the group pressured members into paying large sums of money for questionable financial gain and used "commercial harassment" against recruits.

The group was fined euro400,000 ($600,000) and the library euro200,000. Four of the leaders were given suspended sentences of between 10 months and two years. The other two were given fines of euro1,000 and euro2,000.

WASHINGTON - Federal officials announced Monday that 52 children had been saved and nearly 700 people had been arrested and charged over the past three days in a nationwide crackdown on child prostitution.

Officials of the FBI, along with representatives of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and police agencies throughout the country, said the arrests were the results of investigations in 36 cities.

Four children were rescued by the operation in Chicago, said Cynthia Yates, a spokeswoman for the local FBI office, while 44 adults were charged with local and state crimes related to prostitution.

In the Los Angeles area, two children were rescued in Riverside and four adults were arrested, said Laura Eimiller, a spokeswoman for the FBI. Four alleged customers of child prostitutes were arrested in Orange County...........
