oh this is a GRAND day indeed!

i read this on lemmy's blog alphaville

i had NO idea haggis was a scientologist. i'm rather shocked they even have ONE member but that is neither here nor there.

the here part is paul haggis, after 25 years is now kicking some asses (and i LOVE it)

Paul Haggis wakes up...

After 35 years as a Scientologist, Oscar winning writer/direct Paul Haggis has quit the church over their apparant stance on gay marriage. This is his letter to the church announcing his resignation. This is a facinating must read as Paul admits to feeling stupid after years of defending accusations against the church that he never really looked into himself...................

even eonline! has something
Holy Xenu! Paul Haggis Renounces, Secret-Spills on Scientology
Let's cut right to the chase: Oscar-winning writer-director Paul Haggis (Crash, Million Dollar Baby, Casino Royale) has publicly, blisteringly, bridge-burningly split from the Church of Scientology after 35 quiet years as a member.

True, he was nowhere near the religion's most famous celebrity practitioner, but he will no doubt now go down as one of its most infamous, thanks to the inevitably viral publication of his resignation letter, addressed to Church of Scientology spokesman Tommy Davis. (The letter was first published on the blog of renounced Scientologist Marty Rathbun, who confirmed its authenticity.)..........

I despised the movie CRASH, but have a soft spot for Million Dollar Baby.

Just happy to see Haggis so brilliantly sticking it to the church.

I love how he says he knows they will try to sling mud at him, and he welcomes it. Nice!

Good job Paul. I fully expect that his post-scientology movie work will be even better.

Suck it Xenu!

i didn't think i could handle million dollar baby. i have yet to watch it. i own it, but i haven't seen it.

i didn't like either of the crash movies that much. his or cronenberg's.

i understand people wanting something (as in 'religion') in their lives. i understand what cults can do. the brotherhood of the spirit (where several friends of mine ended up back in the day) used every trick in the book to get me. they never did. they were good (as most of these types are). they spot a hole in someone's soul and go right for it.

we all want to feel loved. we all want to belong to something. i really DO get that part of it. BUT the choices some make I DO NOT GET AND WILL NEVER GET

I'll give you that Cronenberg's CRASH wasn't that good....but Cronenberg is such a genius, he's allowed to go off the rails now and then!

That's the tricky part about religions....so much of what you believe and subscribe to can be a direct result of YEARS of brainwahing from adults who should know better but don't. So much of it depends on WHERE you were born and what your parents believed.

Children are not born with a religion....it is unfortunately assigned.
