I got my 25 Action Kit in the mail today.
For the past 23 years, the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army) has been at war with the Government of Uganda. The LRA has been abducting children and using them as soldiers. ”It is estimated that more than 90% of the LRA’s troops were abducted as children.” Invisible Children makes documentaries, which are many times based on one child and his or her story, and sell bracelets to raise awareness and money. They also have the Schools for Schools campaign, where schools raise money for a school in Uganda, which have been destroyed by the war and they have another program which provides scholarships for students. Another one of their programs is Mend, where women formerly abducted by the LRA make bags purchased by people around the world. Inside the bag, you can find the name of the woman who made your bag and you can view her profile online to learn more about her.
April 25th, they are holding a Day of Silence to raise awareness. So that’s what the kit is for. It’s a shirt, a dog tag that holds cards explaining the event, more cards to give out, and paper and instructions to write to your congressperson. Please
donate or reblog this and it would mean a lot to me and to everyone you help. To learn more about Invisible Children, visit their
website.
Very cool stuff.
