Republicans Block U.S. Health Aid for 9/11 Workers
By RAYMOND HERNANDEZ
WASHINGTON — Republican senators blocked Democratic legislation on Thursday that sought to provide medical care to rescue workers and others who became ill as a result of breathing in toxic fumes, dust and smoke at the site of the World Trade Center attack in 2001.
The 9/11 health bill, a version of which was approved by the House of Representatives in September, was among several initiatives that Senate Democrats had hoped to approve before the close of the 111th Congress. Supporters believe this was their last real opportunity to have the bill passed.
The action by the Senate created huge uncertainty over the bill’s future. Its proponents were working on Thursday to salvage the legislation, with one possibility being to have it inserted into a large tax-cut bill that Republicans and Democrats are trying to pass before Congress ends its current session...............

Czech Republic under fire for ‘penis testing’ gay refugees
By Daniel Tencer
The European Union's top human rights agency is criticizing the Czech Republic for its practice of using a "sexual arousal" test to see if refugee claimants are telling the truth when they claim to be gay.
According to a report released last week by the EU's Fundamental Rights Agency, refugees claiming to be gay have been subjected to "phallometric testing," a process in which sensors are attached to the penis, and the subject is then shown straight porn.
"Those applicants who become aroused are denied asylum," reports the BBC. If the sensor picks up no movement, the Czech government considers the person to be gay and refugee status is granted.................

Navy Capt. Republican state senator files for repeal of Missouri’s ‘Puppy Mill Act
By Eric W. Dolan
Missouri Republicans are flocking to a call to fight socialism at all costs, even if it means killing a few puppies.
Republican State Senator Bill Stouffer filed legislation to repeal a bill aimed at curbing cruel and inhumane treatment of dogs by breeders last week.
The Missouri Dog Breeding Regulation Initiative, Proposition B, known as the "Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Act," requires large-scale dog-breeders to provide basic food and water, adequate shelter, necessary veterinary care, adequate space, regular exercise, and adequate rest between breeding cycles to dogs under their care. The bill also prevents breeders from owning more than 50 breeding dogs...........

National Review editor: Parents of kids in school breakfast programs are criminals
By Daniel Tencer
Parents of children who participate in school breakfast programs are "criminally negligent," says the Washington editor of the conservative National Review.
Kate O'Beirne, who also appears as a pundit on MSNBC, made the comment at a Republican strategy session she moderated at the Hudson Institute Friday.
"My question is what poor excuse for a parent can’t rustle up a bowl of cereal and a banana?" O'Beirne asked. "I just don’t get why millions of school children qualify for school breakfasts unless we have a major wide spread problem with child neglect.".......

i CAN give y'all an example of their outstanding customer service. just recently i had reason to be IN an at&t store. they didn't have what i needed but one of the reps said a ups truck was coming in at 1:00 pm and asked me to call him back at 1:30 or 2:00. he gave me his BUSINESS CARD.
i called the phone number on the BUSINESS CARD. no answer. not just NO answer BUT a voice message telling me i couldn't leave a voicemail message because the USER HAD NOT SET UP HIS VOICEMAIL BOX yet. i tried three more times and the same thing. NO ANSWER AND I WAS UNABLE TO LEAVE A MESSAGE.
tell me, what kind of at&t employee gives you their business card with their business phone on it and then can't even set up THEIR voice mail and/or messaging system?

Sarah Palin is wrong about John F. Kennedy, religion and politics
By Kathleen Kennedy Townsend
Sarah Palin has found a new opponent to debate: John F. Kennedy. In her new book, "America by Heart," Palin objects to my uncle's famous 1960 speech to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association, in which he challenged the ministers - and the country - to judge him, a Catholic presidential candidate, by his views rather than his faith. "Contrary to common newspaper usage, I am not the Catholic candidate for president," Kennedy said. "I am the Democratic Party's candidate for president who happens also to be a Catholic." ................
............Palin's argument seems to challenge a great American tradition, enshrined in the Constitution, stipulating that there be no religious test for public office. A careful reading of her book leads me to conclude that Palin wishes for precisely such a test. And she seems to think that she, and those who think like her, are qualified to judge who would pass and who would not. ..............
