Alleged Libyan rape victim deported from Qatar back to Libya

By Nic Robertson, CNN
(CNN) -- Eman al-Obeidy, who grabbed the world's attention this spring when she accused Moammar Gadhafi's security forces of gang raping her, has been forced back to Libya, which she had fled in fear.
Qatari authorities took her and her parents from a hotel in Doha, the capital, and forced them onto a military plane that left Qatar early Thursday and landed in rebel-held Benghazi. Al-Obeidy, who has gone into hiding in the city, said the Qataris beat and handcuffed her before forcing her onto the plane.
Al-Obeidy told a journalist that officials in the Transitional National Council had pressured the Qataris to expel her.
Hours before her deportation, Obeidy told CNN that armed guards had been posted outside her room, preventing the UNHCR represetative from assisting her..................

Christie took state helicopter to son's baseball game

Posted by Stephanie Condon
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is taking heat from his political opponents and pundits who say his recent personal use of a state helicopter conflicts with his message of fiscal austerity.
Yesterday afternoon, Christie used a new, $12.5 million State Police helicopter to get to his son's baseball game at a high school in Morris Township, New Jersey, the New Jersey Star-Ledger reports. The helicopter was one of five new choppers the state recently purchased for homeland security duties and transporting critically injured patients.
After the helicopter landed in a nearby football field, Christie took a car the extra 100 yards to the baseball field, the Star-Ledger noted. He and his wife took the car back to the helicopter in the fifth inning and flew off..................

Allen West on DADT: Gays Can Change by JM Ashby

At an event hosted by the Heritage Foundation during which Rep. Allen West said we should expand our national defense budget rather than shrink it because the troops can’t afford toilet paper, West also went on to decry the repeal of DADT by saying we shouldn’t be appeasing “special interest groups.”
Speaking out against the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” West also said that the “rules are very clear in the United States military” and implied that sexuality was a choice.,.......................

it's all ok. what's the big deal?

it's ok because 'THEY WEREN'T VIRGINS ANYWAY' or so says that egyptian general (who finally spilled the beans).

i was going to go on and on about the horrors of this. about treating women worse than a farm animal. about women never being equal to men (yes, even in america), well not in my lifetime. but i'm only going to say

imagine if one of these women were  your aunt,  your first grade teacher, your neighbor, your MOTHER, your SISTER,  your WIFE, your DAUGHTER. imagine..........

Horrifying: Egyptian Military Carried Out "Virginity Checks" on Captured Female Protesters

By Julianne Escobedo Shepherd

Add another one to the horror stories behind the otherwise inspiring Egyptian protests this spring: an Egyptian general has admitted that the military carried out "virginity checks" on arrested female protesters. CNN:
"The girls who were detained were not like your daughter or mine," the general said. "These were girls who had camped out in tents with male protesters in Tahrir Square, and we found in the tents Molotov cocktails and (drugs).
The general said the virginity checks were done so that the women wouldn't later claim they had been raped by Egyptian authorities.
"We didn't want them to say we had sexually assaulted or raped them, so we wanted to prove that they weren't virgins in the first place," the general said. "None of them were (virgins).".........

James O'Keefe's group granted nonprofit status

IRS application reveals that "citizen journalist" organization hopes to raise $1.65M in three years

By Emma Mustich

James O'Keefe, whose conservative coterie's "rogue journalism" escapades have grown infamous in recent years -- his most recent prank resulted in the resignation of NPR's former CEO, Vivian Schiller -- has just scored a major victory: The IRS has classified his organization, Project Veritas, as a nonprofit (prompting the Huffington Post's Jason Linkins to quip: "Hey! Now they're more like NPR than ever!").
Although Project Veritas' application for nonprofit recognition was approved in early April, the Chronicle of Philanthropy first reported the news earlier this week, after gaining access to relevant papers through the Freedom of Information Act............................
