“Slaughterhouse 5″ Banned in School, Doesn’t Follow Bible

A school in Missouri has banned the Kurt Vonnegut classic “Slaughterhouse Five” and another book after one person complained that the books teach principles that are contrary to the Bible.
Last year a college professor named Wesley Scroggins called for the banning of “filthy books” assigned to students at Republic High School — “Slaughterhouse Five,” Twenty Boy Summer” and “Speak.”....................

speculation? speculation they're racist?

no. and no. it's NOT speculation. they (the they in this case is almost every single rePUGnaCAN'T and each and every bagger) are racist flat out. they're all dying to use the 'n' word. and even if they DID use the 'n' word, you'd still have them on your tv 'news' shows as EXPERTS and you'd still VOTE for them and  you'd still write articles like....'are they racist just because they used the 'n' word? they did in fact say they were sorry.................'

oh FUCK THAT SHITE

i can't tell you how disappointed i am in our president barack obama. i CAN tell you #1) it's NOT because he's black (it's because he's made many decisions i abhor and because i don't think he's strong enough) and #2) it's not because i'm AFRAID of him because he's a 'black man' and our president

What were two Republicans thinking, calling Obama 'tar baby' and 'boy'?

by Patrik JonssonStaff writer

Atlanta
The specter of two national Republican figures apologizing for calling President Obama, the first African-American president, alternately a "tar baby" and "boy" gave new fuel to speculation on the left that, underneath much of the criticism of the president and his policies, lurks the shadow of racism. Last week, Rep. Doug Lamborn (R) of Colorado, on a Denver talk radio show, said, “Even if some people say, ‘Well the Republicans should have done this or they should have done that,’ they will hold the president responsible. Now, I don’t even want to have to be associated with him. It’s like touching a tar baby and you get it, you’re stuck, and you’re a part of the problem now and you can’t get away.”

here's the story

not only is this frightening and sad

it's SICKENING.

sending someone who appears to be TOTALLY UNQUALIFIED to interview a REAL scientist. then, after not liking his answers (because they appear to be TRUE) seizing his computer and more. THEN putting him on leave

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH US ANYWAY?

Star Polar Bear Scientist in the Dog House

The government mysteriously puts a lead Arctic biologist on administrative leave. Is it caving to oil interests?
Everything you've been told about polar bears and global warming is a lie. Or at least that's what climate skeptics have rushed to claim in response to the news that the government is investigating a scientist who wrote a significant paper five years ago about drowned bears in the warming Arctic. Charles Monnett, a wildlife biologist with the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation, and Enforcement (BOEMRE) in Alaska, has been placed on administrative leave as the agency's inspector general undertakes an investigation into unnamed "integrity issues." But an environmental watchdog group believes that the real reason for the investigation is pressure from oil and gas interests who see polar bears as pests that stand between them and the vast mineral reserves deep beneath the Arctic.
The details of the investigation are odd, to say the very least. On February 4, 2011, Monnett received a request for an interview from Eric May, a criminal investigator with the Office of the Inspector General at the Department of the Interior. May and another agent interviewed Monnett on February 23, 2011, in the Anchorage office of BOEMRE............

AFP Wisconsin ballots have late return date

David Catanese

Americans for Prosperity is sending absentee ballots to Democrats in at least two Wisconsin state Senate recall districts with instructions to return the paperwork after the election date.
The fliers, obtained by POLITICO, ask solidly Democratic voters to return ballots for the Aug. 9 election to the city clerk "before Aug. 11."
A Democrat on the ground in Wisconsin said the fliers were discovered to be hitting doors in District 2 and District 10 over the weekend.
"These are people who are our 1's in the voterfile who we already knew.  They ain't AFP members, that's for damn sure," the source said.
One flier was discovered in Hudson, Wisc. where Democrat Shelly Moore is attempting to upend GOP State Sen. Sheila Harsdorf in District 10; the other was found in Kaukauna, where Democrat Nancy Nusbaum is challenging Sen. Robert Cowles in District 2....

Wisconsin Democratic voters targeted with Koch-funded absentee ballot notices advising them to vote 2 days afterthe recall election

by Cory Doctorow

The Koch-funded Americans for Prosperity group has been reportedly distributing fliers in Democrat-leaning Wisconsin districts advising voters to send in their recall absentee ballots “before August 11.” The recall election — in which Democrats are seeking to unseat state Republicans who voted for Governor Scott Walker’s attack on unionized labor — is being held two days earlier, on August 9. AFP has also given $150,000 worth of ad time to Republican candidates facing recall...............

Newt Gingrich accused of Twitter follower fraud

by

Husband, father, grandfather, citizen, small businessman, author, former Speaker, candidate for president, and Twitter fraud? Newt Gingrich is being accused of having more than a million fictitious followers on Twitter.
Do you believe he really has that many followers?
(Credit: Screenshot by Christopher MacManus/CNET)
The provocative blog Gawker has been on an absolute tear over the last few days, accusing Gingrich of using campaign money to hire spam agencies designed to boost Twitter follower counts. The accusations supposedly originate from an anonymous former campaign staffer.
Things got even spicier today, when Gawker cited a new report by New York-based search company PeekYou, which claims to have analyzed every Gingrich follower and to come up with an alarming conclusion:
The Consumer Ratio measures the percentage of a Twitter audience that is identified as a "consumer" or "voter" in Newt's case, vs business, private/anonymous and spam accounts. The average range sits anywhere between 30-60% human depending on this type of account. Newt's was 8% -- the lowest the team had ever seen by 5%.

HHS OKs birth control with no co-pay

By Sabriya Rice, CNN Medical Producer
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced new guidelines in Washington Monday requiring health insurance plans beginning on or after August 1, 2012 to cover several women's preventive services, including birth control and voluntary sterilization.
According to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius the decision is a part of the Affordable Care Act's move to stop problems before they start. "These historic guidelines are based on science and existing literature and will help ensure women get the preventive health benefits they need," she said in a news release.
In July, the Institute of Medicine issued the results of a scientific review of women's health needs and provided recommendations on specific preventive measures to help them. Today HHS approved those recommendations.
Besides contraceptive use, the list includes screenings for conditions such as gestational diabetes and the human papillomavirus (HPV), as well as breastfeeding support and counseling on sexually transmitted diseases. The full list is available on the Department of Health and Human Services website............
