i'm weighing in on this BECAUSE

my company has a policy like this as well. we are supposed to get PERMISSION before we make any campaign contributions (to ANYONE), before we volunteer to work on anyone's political campaign or things of that nature.

are we journalists? NOPE. i work for a (rather large) financial/insurance company. i don't understand this policy (they say it has to do with new government laws but i am almost certain that is NOT true). IT IS MY OPINION WHO I VOTE FOR, WHO I DONATE TO, WHO I VOLUNTEER FOR IS NO ONE'S BID-NEZ BUT MINE UNLESS I CHOSE TO SHARE IT.

i'm not saying here i'm not going to follow my company's procedures (i wouldn't say that here). i'm just saying i think it's a LOAD OF STEAMIN' HORSESHITE

so, keith can't but joey can? 'splain that one to me will ya?

MSNBC Suspends Keith Olbermann. Will He Walk?

..................Update: My colleague Matthew Herper points outthat an MSNBC spokesman said on the record that the policy on donations doesn’t apply to Joe Scarborough on the grounds that his show is opinion, not news. How on earth is “Countdown” any different? I emailed the spokesman with that and other questions; I’ll let you know if I hear back.........

Texas Gov. Rick Perry: Let states opt out of Social Security
By Eric W. Dolan
Appearing on television Thursday, Texas Governor Rick Perry, a potential contender for the Republican nomination in 2012, said that he wants states to be able to opt-out of Social Security.
On CNN's Parker/Spitzer, hosted by Democrat and former New York governor Eliot Spitzer and political columnist Kathleen Parker, Perry compared Social Security to a ponzi scheme and said that Americans want Washington to stop spending so much money...........

..................hough posturing himself as a small-government conservative, Perry was behind a scheme to implement a "market-based approach" to the state's highway congestion by dividing Texas into corridors split by massive toll roads financed by foreign investors. Land would have been seized by eminent domain and tolls would have been collected for 50+ years. While the so-called "Trans-Texas Corridor" has been effectively scrapped, critics of the plan say it is still largely in play but renamed and broken into dozens of smaller projects.
Perry was also criticized by republicans for ordering every school-age girl in the state to receive an injection of the Guardasil vaccine, mean to protect against cervical cancer. His executive order, which the GOP-dominated legislature blocked, came after drug maker Merck doubled lobbying efforts in the state.
At the time of Perry's reelection, Texas was running an estimated budget deficit of up to $17 billion, according to the state comptroller's office..............

she's up for re-election today ohio. what are YOU going to do?

BY Meena Hartenstein
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
A Republican Congresswoman shocked teachers and students alike this month when she decided to talk about abortion to a classroom of 6-year-olds.
Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-OH) ventured into the age-inappropriate territory during a speech at a Cincinnati Catholic school, where she addressed a room of students ranging from first to eighth graders.
"Unexpectedly, towards the end of her address, Congresswoman Schmidt brought up the topic of abortion," Prinicipal Dan Teller wrote in a letter to parents, obtained by Cincinnati's WLWT.com. "Your children may come home with questions, especially if this is a topic that has not been broached in your home."
Though the abortion-related portion of the speech was reported to last under two minutes, it may be the only part anyone will remember...........

Writers and scientists name science fiction books that should be called classics
From "The War of the Worlds" to "1984," some science fiction goes down in history. What about the brilliant books that got away? New Scientist magazine asked scientists and writers to nominate lost sci-fi classics.

'FLOATING WORLDS' (BY CECELIA HOLLAND)

Nominated by Kim Stanley Robinson, science-fiction writer: " 'Floating Worlds' was published to acclaim in 1976, but has not been remembered as much as it should be. But Holland's immense power as a novelist, and her new take on old science fiction themes, turn everything to gold."

Outline: A story about Earth and other colonies in the solar system, some hundreds of years from now, when humans have begun to evolve into separate species and Earth is a mess. "Floating Worlds" is the only science-fiction book by historical novelist Cecelia Holland...............

Jimmy Carter: Fox News is ‘totally biased,’ implants ‘completely false images’

By David Edwards and Eric Dolan

Former President Jimmy Carter slammed Fox News Channel for their coverage of President Barack Obama and said the Tea Party does not realize it is financed by oligarchs.
"With the discussion groups, for instance, on Fox News, that are totally biased, and they implant completely false images not only of the facts about legislation that's passed, or doesn't get passed, but also about the character of President Obama," Carter told CNN's Howard Kurtz on Sunday...............

McDonald’s Workers Are Told Whom to Vote for
WASHINGTON — When workers in a McDonald’s restaurant in Canton, Ohio, opened their paychecks this month, they found a pamphlet urging them to vote for the Republican candidates for governor, Senate and Congress, or possibly face financial repercussions.
The pamphlet appeared calculated to intimidate workers into voting for Republican candidates by making a direct reference to their wages and benefits, said Allen Schulman, a Democrat who is president of the Canton City Council and said he obtained a copy of the pamphlet on Wednesday.
The pamphlet said: “If the right people are elected, we will be able to continue with raises and benefits at or above the current levels. If others are elected, we will not.”............
