“Women withhold sex because men let them get away with it”

 Published by

Feel like puking? Check out this crusty scab of human hatred from the Fox News website, a men’s advice column entitled “Reasons Women Withhold Sex.”
I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “why would I feel like puking?” Or possibly, “why would anyone bother writing a men’s advice column entitled ‘Reasons Women Withhold Sex’ when the answer, so obvious to anyone with half a grip, is ‘because sex with you sucks’?”
But apparently men need to hear something other than the truth. Enter men’s advice-ist Sarah Stefanson. Rarely has so puke-a-riffic an example of the acculturation of sexist male entitlement been seen in this, or any other, galaxy.

Washington Post Journalist confronts his hoarding
Mark Frauenfelder

Michael S. Rosenwald of the Washington Post wrote a a brave piece about coming to terms with his hoarding condition.

Later, I would learn from Frost that I keep my stuff on tables and in piles because having everything in plain sight provides comfort and, in a sense, a form of organized disorganization. If I can see it, I know it's there. That was the practical explanation. But as the students questioned me -- about the pleasure I feel acquiring stuff, the anxiety I feel tossing it -- I sensed that there was something deeper, more philosophical. And it was this: All of the stuff I pile up is a sort of second body, my twin. I am Michael Rosenwald, and those piles -- the books, magazines, fountain pens, inks, newspapers, everything -- are also me. The more I have of it, the more I am me. Up there in front of the class, I was beginning to confuse myself, and then I felt as if I might cry.

I blurted this out to the class: "What would I be without it all?".......

girls and women in bangladesh

are committing suicide because of sexual harassment. it appears not too many people are doing anything about it, even when they are actually WITNESSING it happening

Bangladesh 'Eve teasing' craze takes a terrible toll

This Sunday (13 June) has been designated "Eve Teasing Protection Day" by the education ministry in Bangladesh.

The announcement reflects increasing concern over the worrying number of girls and women who have recently committed suicide in the country to escape "Eve teasing", a euphemism for sexual harassment.

Figures released by the Ain-O-Shalish Kendra (ASK) human rights organisation reveal that 14 girls and women have taken their own lives over the past four months across the country as a direct result of the insults.

In addition, a father and a daughter also committed suicide together - in an incident blamed by the authorities on "Eve teasing". Police say three men who publicly protested against the harassment have been killed over the past 12 weeks...................

Searching for life at Rand Paul HQ -- and finding none

By Natasha Lennard

I'm an intern, but Rand Paul doesn't know that. Nor does his campaign office. For all they know, I'm Salon's most influential writer. Or I could be a concerned Kentucky citizen; a potential supporter of Rand Paul for U.S. Senate with avid interest in his views on deficit spending. For all they know, I could be anyone. But Rand Paul and his campaign workers know absolutely nothing about me, because they are impossible to contact.

Last Friday, we wanted a comment from Paul about the Israeli flotilla attack (especially since his father, Ron, vociferously condemned it). But after a slew of emails, unreturned voicemails, and some rookie muckraking, we've heard nothing from the Rand Paul campaign -- not even a "no comment." I don't care about his views on Israel anymore; I just want to talk to a human voice.

Now, it's no secret that Rand Paul has been erring on the side of caution with the media, after erring on the side of racism when discussing the Civil Rights Act. But I imagined that someone in his campaign -- a press secretary, perhaps? -- would at least be around to speak for him..........

Teacher Fired for Becoming Pregnant Out of Wedlock
Woman Conceived Just Days Before Wedding, but School Fired Her for 'Fornication'

By RUSSELL GOLDMAN

When Jarretta Hamilton, a fourth grade teacher at a Florida Christian school, told administrators she was pregnant, she expected them to ask when she was due.

She did not, however, think her answer would get her fired.

In April 2009, Hamilton told her boss at Southland Christian School in St. Cloud, Fla., that she was pregnant and planned to take a six-week leave in October. When asked when she conceived, Hamilton answered honestly: She became pregnant just three weeks prior to her Feb. 20 wedding.

That was enough to get her fired under the school's strict morality rules, which prohibit teachers from "fornication," engaging in sex before marriage....................

Human rights group: BP discouraging crews from using respirators

By David Edwards

BP's logic seems to be that if the oil cleanup doesn't look dangerous then it must not be. The oil company has told workers not to wear respirators because it's bad for public relations, according to one human rights group.

RFK Center President Kerry Kennedy traveled to the Gulf Coast to talk to cleanup workers and found that BP was trying to repress the use of safety equipment.

"In all three states that I've visited, fishermen said when they went out to work on the cleanup, that if they tried to bring respirators they were told it was unnecessary equipment and would only spread hysteria," Kennedy told Fox News Friday.

"When I went out with eleven people, we had respirators on and within half an hour, all of our eyes were burning and our throats were closing and we all had headaches," she explained........

you KNOW what starts back up (season 3) tomorrow.........

Season 3 of 'True Blood' adds a power struggle and many new characters
Washington Post Staff Writer

At the rate we're going, you'll soon be able to get your PhD in vampire semiotics. What metaphors and meanings don't the immortal bloodsuckers offer? What themes can't they represent? And why are they everywhere now?

Some 35 years after Anne Rice introduced the idea of the chaste vampire with the tortured soul, the mythical creatures have been brought back from Halloween-aisle exile to practice a curious form of abstinence. America's teenage girls swoon for a surplus of far-too-pretty vampires who are barely up to the task; these baby Dracs go to high school in the light of day and text love poems more than they actually feed. Today's vampires are too anguished to enjoy a sang-wich. ...................

Blasting ‘Don’t Ask’ repeal, American Family Association claims ‘gay sex = domestic terrorism’

By Stephen C. Webster

......................

The story was carried in a number of other online venues, but at time of this writing it appeared that the only "mainstream" U.S. news bureau to feature the claim was Fox News, which erroneously -- and perhaps mistakenly -- called the scheme "a bid to infect British troops".

How exactly these alleged Afghan bomb-makers could design HIV-laced weapons that targets soldiers based on nationality, Fox News did not explain. The network instead cited The Sun as its only source, although not even the British tabloid made such an unusual statement.

The allegations were apparently enough for the American Family Association (AFA) to weigh in. As a conservative non-profit group best known for attacking marriage equality and homosexuals in other walks of public life, the focus of their response might have been expected. Instead, the AFA declared in a Thursday blog headline: "Gay sex = domestic terrorism".............

During the ten minute sneak peek of “Jersey Shore” season two, we see the effects the Obama administration has had on our dear friend Snooki’s lifestyle: the girl has been reduced to getting her faux glow with a spray tan.

Among the many revelations that the reality-TV star made within those few minutes – she’s found love with an “amazing gorilla juicehead”; she gets crazy when handed "a bottle of freaking SoCo" – one of them was political.

“I don’t go tanning tanning anymore, because Obama put a 10 percent tax on tanning,” Snooks said after her juicehead sprayed her face with one last coat of self-tanner, just to be on the safe side.

“I feel like he did that intentionally for us. McCain would never put a 10 percent tax on tanning. Because he’s pale and he would probably want to be tan," the pint-sized fist-pumper explained.

McCain confirmed Snooki's assertions in a tweet.

The Arizona Senator wrote, “@Sn00ki, u r right, I would never tax your tanning bed! Pres Obama’s tax/spend policy is quite The Situation but I do rec wearing sunscreen!" To which Snooks responded: "Haha Yes!"

CONFIRMED: Aerial Video Shows Second Leaking Rig Near The Deepwater Horizon

by coto2admin

Business Insider

UPDATE: Taylor Energy Will Soon Put Out Comment On Saratoga Leak

Earlier we published speculation from satellite analytics group SkyTruth that there may be a second leak in the Gulf. A freelance pilot and photographer confirmed these rumors and a possible coverup.

Photographer J Henry Fair says the new photos show an oil plume originating from the Ocean Saratoga rig, which is operated by Diamond Offshore. A work ship in the foreground appeared to be applying dispersants to the oil. A larger rig in the background may be discharging another leak.

This leak was reported last night by Alabama local news. NOAA also mentioned this leak in an April 30 oil slick map [PDF]. [COTO Ed. Note: I found no such mention in that document.].............

A Graveyard For Roman Gladiators -- In England?

Ancient skeletons excavated under the city of York in northern England have archaeologists wondering whether they've discovered a well-preserved cemetery full of fallen Roman gladiators. The first of the skeletons was discovered in 2003, and since then, more than 80 have been identified.

The remains date between the 2nd and 3rd centuries, the period during which the Romans occupied northern England. The skeletons had been decapitated — and that was a key reason researchers thought they had been gladiators, says John Walker, chief executive of the York Archaeological Trust, which conducted the research.

Two other clues that they could be gladiators: One arm is generally bigger than the other, and the bones overall are heftier than usual...........

Rove: Bush White House wanted to get rid of ‘mentally ill’ reporter
By David Edwards and Ron Brynaert

...................On Fox News Channel Monday morning, shortly after news of Helen Thomas' resignation had hit the wires, former "Bush's brain" Karl Rove said that the White House never has "complete control over who finds themselves in the White House press room."

"Look, a White House -- regardless of which party is in control of [it] -- does not have complete control over who finds themselves in the White House press room, and she's been antagonistic -- as you say -- to conservatives for many, many years, but that's not the business of the White House to determine whether or not -- simply because they are antagonistic -- they have a role in the White House," Rove told Fox's Megyn Kelly...........

................

"We had a problem with a woman who was, I think, mentally ill, who is a minor player on the journalistic scene," Rove claimed. "Who literally the former White House chief of staff used to take her for cheeseburgers at McDonald's in order to make sure she was fed and it seemed to be a homeless person and we couldn't get her out of the White House press operation."

Shocked and laughing, Kelly asked, "Who was it?"

But Rove ignored her, as he begin a spiel about how the Obama administration would never allow him to cover White House briefings, which seemed to contradict his earlier conviction that the White House never has "complete control over who finds themselves in the White House press room."..................

don't forget,

an editorial from yesterday's nyt:

Doctors Who Aid Torture

Disturbing new questions have been raised about the role of doctors and other medical professionals in helping the Central Intelligence Agency subject terrorism suspects to harsh treatment, abuse and torture. The Red Cross previously documented, from interviews with “high-value” prisoners, that medical personnel helped facilitate abuses in the C.I.A.’s “enhanced interrogation program” during the Bush administration. Now Physicians for Human Rights has suggested that the medical professionals may also have violated national and international laws setting limits on what research can be performed on humans. .......

to me, it's not really a tough call at all

i am HAPPY a wikileaks exists. i would even contribute to it if i had anything they could use....i would AS LONG AS IT DIDN'T PUT ONE SINGLE SOUL AT RISK. that's where the no tough call comes in. if someone's life is on the line or there could be possible harm done to a person, NO NO AND NO. i would NEVER give that info up.

there are 'state secrets' for a reason. i'm not above sharing something like an attack on innocent civilians. or lies being told by our government (again, as long as NO ONE would come to harm). what i'd really like to share is big bid-nez secrets. dirty dealings.

U.S. Intelligence Analyst Arrested in Wikileaks Video Probe
By Kevin Poulsen and Kim Zetter

Federal officials have arrested an Army intelligence analyst who boasted of giving classified U.S. combat video and hundreds of thousands of classified State Department records to whistleblower site Wikileaks, Wired.com has learned.

SPC Bradley Manning, 22, of Potomac, Maryland, was stationed at Forward Operating Base Hammer, 40 miles east of Baghdad, where he was arrested nearly two weeks ago by the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division. A family member says he’s being held in custody in Kuwait, and has not been formally charged.

Manning was turned in late last month by a former computer hacker with whom he spoke online. In the course of their chats, Manning took credit for leaking a headline-making video of a helicopter attack that Wikileaks posted online in April. The video showed a deadly 2007 U.S. helicopter air strike in Baghdad that claimed the lives of several innocent civilians.............

MRAs on parade: chumpass motherfucker declares ownership of girlfriend’s uterus

It’s always the way: some horndog dude decides to prong a woman, then ends up dissatisfied with the results. So he has a tantrum. The tantrum may take one, or a combination, of many interesting forms.

Sometimes the woman doesn’t want him around anymore, so he stalks her. Sometimes she makes him hate her so much that he emails naked pictures of her to the whole school. Sometimes she gets old or fat so he keeps her around to do his laundry but starts pronging a younger woman on the DL. Sometimes she stops putting out so he fires her from her job. Sometimes the woman interprets the pronging as rape, so he calls her a liar and tortures her with mental cruelty and courtroom drama and ends up doing no jail time.

And sometimes he makes the woman pregnant. In this case he can choose from many, many popular options. He might he murder her, beat her, abandon her, marry her, slut-shame her, or, as in today’s case, appeal to the patriarchal justice system to enforce his wishes as to what should be done with the contents of her personal uterus........................

if given a choice, i would rather watch espn do highlights of crafters. i've not been given that choice though.

however, i DO come from a land where women ARE indeed champions. i think they and all women should be afforded the things (including air time) that MEN in sports get (although i'm all for cutting that WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY down too)

ESPN’s Sports Center Shows Almost No Highlights of Women’s Sports

As I’m sure you know, ESPN sets the tone for sports highlights with its daily Sports Center program. In fact, you could probably say that Sports Center is ESPN since each day the show runs for 14 hours (live and reruns) and the catch-calls of its announcers become famous. You would think that it could find time to show highlights of women’s sports. Unfortunately, it can’t find the time. With miniscule exceptions, you can’t find highlights and you can’t even find scores.

Sally Jenkins’ column in Friday’s Washington Post tells the sad story. And even worse than the current miniscule figures is the fact that Sports Center has drastically cut back in recent years. A study released this week entitled “Gender in Televised Sports: News and Highlight Shows, 1989-2009,” sampled the content of highlight shows and found that they devote barely 1.5% of airtime to women’s sports.

here's a GREAT explanation of the new at&t

data plan choices...............

What AT&T’s Limited Data Plans Mean for You

Read More http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/06/att-tiered-data/#ixzz0q4ImUUsU
By Brian X. Chen

AT&T’s all-you-can-eat data plan died Wednesday, and plenty of wireless customers mourned over their loss. But is it really a big deal? It depends on the type of data consumer you are.

The new tiered pricing structure gives AT&T customers the following options:

  1. 200 MB for $15 per month. If you exceed the limit, AT&T will charge $15 extra in units of 200 MB.
  2. 2 GB for $25 per month. If you surpass this limit, you can pay an extra $10 per extra gigabyte.
  3. Current smartphone users can continue their unlimited data for $30 per month — but if they switch to one of the cheaper plans, they can’t go back to unlimited.
  4. To tether your smartphone to a computer, you must use the 2-GB, $25 plan, and pay an extra $20 for the tethering privilege.

For some, these changes stink. For others, it won’t affect their lives much. Which plan is right for you? Let’s break down the options.

-wil wheaton

I mentioned this on Twitter, but as Twitter has grown and grown (congrats, Biz and Ev!) it's become very "in the moment" and not the best place to put very important things like this:

There's a page on Facebook that appears to be mine. The problem with this is that I don't use Facebook, and I don't want people to be mislead. (Ohh! Bold text! Wil must be serious!)

This is not me. A casual observer could see this page and think it's legit, because there isn't anything on it that clearly identifies it as a fan page, or a parody page, or something like that. For all I know, it's well-intentioned and I'm overreacting, but I just can't take a chance with things like this. At the moment, it appears to be asking for donations to fight Alzheimer's, which is a noble cause, but if I stood back and let anyone claim to be me while asking for money - for anything - it could have really, really bad consequences. ........................

go figure! i mean DUH!!!

Glenn Beck's new book club pick: Nazi sympathizer who praised Hitler and denounced the Allies

by Eric Hananoki

On his radio show today, Glenn Beck heralded and promoted the work of Nazi sympathizer Elizabeth Dilling, who spoke at rallies hosted by the leading American Nazi group and praised Hitler. Today, Dilling is heralded by White Supremacists and White Aryans who revere her "fearless" work against Jewish people.

As Media Matters' Simon Maloy noted, Beck had kind words for Dilling's 1934 anti-communist book, The Red Network, saying: "This is a book -- and I'm a getting a ton of these -- from people who were doing what we're doing now. We now are documenting who all of these people are. Well, there were Americans in the first 50 years of this nation that took this seriously, and they documented it." Maloy noted that Dilling has a long history of rabid anti-Semitism, such as calling President Eisenhower "Ike the Kike" and labeling President Kennedy's New Frontier program the "Jew frontier."....................
