in all seriousness - the end of an era. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back back back when i was quite young, my family and i were visiting relatives in maryland. they took us to a libarace show. i WANTED to hate it (me being so cool and all), but i couldn't. he was quite a showman. yes, i liked it

Mr. Showmanship’s Show Is Closing
At, in short, the paraphernalia of a onetime star of the Strip who appears to have become a symbol of an era that is not only past, but forgotten, too.
The Liberace Museum, once a tourist attraction on a par with the Hoover Dam — 450,000 people came every year to the strip-mall museum with a red neon piano on the roof — is closing its doors next month. The collection is being put into storage.
“I’ve lived here for 40 years and this is the first time I’ve come,” said Mr. Holt, 71, a retired civil engineer, soft piano music tinkling above him. “I heard this place was closing, so I headed over.”.......

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to Hold Rallies on Washington Mall Oct. 30
Posted by David Riedel

Jon Stewart announced on "The Daily Show" Thursday night that he'll hold a rally on the National Mall in Washington D.C., on October 30. He showed some of the signs that organizers would be handing out at the event, which had slogans such as, "9/11 was an Outside Job." He said the message would be to "take it down a notch for America." The event is called the "Rally to Restore Sanity," and is for people who think neither Barack Obama nor George W. Bush is Adolf Hitler.............

Pope Benedict XVI goes to war with 'atheist extremism'
Pope uses visit to argue Nazi desire to eradicate God led to the Holocaust and Britain should respect its Christian foundations

Benedict XVI used the first papal state visit to Britain to launch a blistering attack on "atheist extremism" and "aggressive secularism", and to rue the damage that "the exclusion of God, religion and virtue from public life" had done in the last century.
The leader of the Roman Catholic church concluded a speech, made before the Queen and assembled dignitaries at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, with the argument that the Nazi desire to eradicate God had led to the Holocaust and a plea for 21st-century Britain to respect its Christian foundations..............

Jeremy Scahill

Over the past several years, entities closely linked to the private security firm Blackwater have provided intelligence, training and security services to US and foreign governments as well as several multinational corporations, including Monsanto, Chevron, the Walt Disney Company, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and banking giants Deutsche Bank and Barclays, according to documents obtained by The Nation. Blackwater's work for corporations and government agencies was contracted using two companies owned by Blackwater's owner and founder, Erik Prince: Total Intelligence Solutions and the Terrorism Research Center (TRC). Prince is listed as the chairman of both companies in internal company documents, which show how the web of companies functions as a highly coordinated operation. Officials from Total Intelligence, TRC and Blackwater (which now calls itself Xe Services) did not respond to numerous requests for comment for this article...............

South Carolina Senate President Dresses Up Like Confederate Soldier With Black Slaves At GOP Event

By Zaid Jilani

This past weekend, the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) “held its annual fall Board of Directors meeting in Charleston, S.C.” In attendance at the event were major Republican leaders throughout the state, including Gov. Mark Sanford, who spoke to the audience gathered there.
One shocking moment at the NFRW meeting involved a special event called “The Southern Experience.” In this event, attendees dressed in clothing reminiscent of the Civil War and the antebellum South. As FITS News reports, South Carolina Senate President Glenn McConnell (R) participated in the event by dressing up as a Confederate General, and at many points posed with African Americans dressed as slaves:.........

Uncovered: O’Donnell objected to calling AIDS sufferers ‘victims’
By Muriel Kane
Delaware Tea Party candidate Christine O'Donnell has already been widely mocked for a 1998 interview in which she claimed that masturbation is no different from adultery because "the Bible says that lust in your heart is committing adultery."
Now Talking Points Memo has uncovered a 1997 interview on C-SPAN in which O'Donnell complained about the "gross disproportionate allocation of funds" going to AIDS research and treatment.
"A lot of the money that we're spending goes to things that we know will not prevent AIDS," O'Donnell complained, "but, indeed, will continue to spread the disease -- when a lot of our money goes to distribute condoms in high schools, when a lot of our money goes to distribute material that is literally pornographic.".............

what's the big deal?

it's all ok.

1) she wanted it
2) she's JUST  a woman after all
3) there's nothing wrong with (allegedly) sending 30 or so 'sexts' to a VICTIM of a (alleged) DOMESTIC ABUSE crime you're prosecuting

oh no, she wouldn't feel there would be ANY chance of the prosecutor letting her ex walk free if she didn't 'get wit' the prosecutor.

one would have to have some set on him to do ANY of this shite. one would have to have an even bigger set to NOT deny it and go on and get mad that his OWN reputation was being damaged.

Kenneth Kratz sexts victim while prosecuting her boyfriend

Last year, Calumet County, Wisc., DA Kenneth Kratz was supposed to be prosecuting 26-year-old Stephanie Van Groll's boyfriend for nearly strangling her to death.
But he also managed to find time to bombard her with text messages -- 30 in three days -- trying to take their victim-prosecutor relationship to the next level.
He had his hands full. Around the same time, Kratz was prosecuting a woman who glued her wayward lover's penis to his stomach.............

According to the texts, he was sure Van Groll harbored a seriously specific fetish for 50-year-old, married, elected district attorneys.............

Witch-Regulation Bill Fails to Pass in Romania

Romanian lawmaker Alin Popoviciu is blaming fear for the failure of a bill he sponsored that would have imposed new regulations and taxes on witches and fortune tellers.  He claimed that the legislation had failed because lawmakers were afraid they would be cursed if they passed it.
The bill, drafted by Popoviciu and his colleague Cristi Dugulescu, was designed to help increase tax revenue by tightening regulations on witches and fortune tellers, who are apparently among the many groups dodging taxes in Romania.  ...............

Border Patrol Charged With Sexual Abuse, Assault, and Torture

 By Suzy Khimm

In line with its "enforcement only" approach to immigration, the Obama administration has increased the number of border patrol agents, most recently as part of a $600 million border bill that passed without much ado this summer. But the rapid expansion appears to have come at a cost. The Los Angeles Times reportsIn the last 18 months, writes the Times, "five Border Patrol agents have been accused or convicted of sex crimes, including one agent who pleaded guilty in January to raping a woman while off duty, and another who is accused of sexually assaulting a migrant while her young children were nearby in a car." Other Border Patrol agents have been charged in assault cases, including charges of torturing a 16-year-old drug smuggler, paralyzing a man with a hatchet in an attempted murder, and shocking, drugging, and Tasering an immigrant detainee to death while he was being deported to Mexico. that there's been a surge in sexual misconduct and assault cases against Border Patrol agents—a development that some attribute to the increased militarization of the border and greater numbers of inexperienced officers............

School suspends boy for having bloodshot eyes

Administrators at Byron Nelson High School in Trophy Club, Texas, suspended a 16-year-old boy on Tuesday because his eyes were bloodshot and they thought he might have been smoking marijuana. The teen said he was not high. Instead his eyes were red because he had been grieving the loss of his murdered father. Kyler Robertson’s father was stabbed to death on Sunday. His mother honoured his wishes and let him go to school on Tuesday to be with his friends..........

CNN host calls out Sean Hannity for ‘deceptive’ video editing

By David Edwards and Stephen Webster

Fox News personality Sean Hannity is an opinion host, not a reporter: a fact made abundantly clear in last week's fracas over what one CNN host called on Sunday "deceptive" video editing.
Most journalists would get fired over something like this.
Last week, Hannity featured a clip of President Obama explaining why he will allow the Bush tax cuts to expire, just as the prior administration had planned. Introducing the video, Hannity called Obama's words "a rare moment of honesty" that he hopes voters will watch.
"... [Taxes] are scheduled to go up substantially next year, for everybody," the president said.
Cut back to Hannity.
"I know the anointed one will make sure that happens," he quipped disapprovingly.
But, that's not really what the president said.
"Under the tax plan passed by the last administration, taxes are scheduled to go up substantially next year, for everybody," he explained, in an unedited version of the remarks. "By the way, this was by design."....................

wtf???????????

this dude thinks shutting down va hospitals (to prove a point) is ok. if YOU think it's ok too (and you live in georgia), why don't cha  vote for him. (because obviously he believes our veterans haven't been tortured enough)

AUDIO: GOP Rep Says Shutting Down Govt, Even The VA, Is Worth ‘The Pain’ Because Govt Is Full Of ‘Gangrene’

During a speech at the Faith and Freedom Coalition convention today, Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA) explained that as a recruitment officer for the NRCC, the Republican campaign committee in charge of electing House Republicans, he picked candidates that would stand with the caucus in unified campaigns to slash government, starting with health care.

If Republicans take back the House, Westmoreland said, they would use their new majority to force a budget battle akin to the fight staged by former Speaker Newt Gingrich with President Clinton and shut down the federal government. Westmoreland cautioned that he was fully aware that such a move would close down hospitals for veterans and shut down National Parks. But, Westmoreland argued that taking down the government is worth “the pain” because health reform and government programs are like a “gangrene” that “need to be cleaned out”:..................

caboodle ranch. what is caboodle? well, it's a ranch for (former) homeless cats, abused cats, abandoned cats. it was founded (by accident, read the story at the caboodle link above) by one man, craig grant. stop by the pictures pages here and especially HERE

the kitties have houses (a trailer and i guess in the more recent pics there's a whole little village for them), they have ladders up trees with sleeping places, they have underground hiding places. man, this is pretty amazing. all this coming from someone who initially didn't really care for cats. again, read craig's story.

Fort Gay Pride Questioned; Xbox Reverses Decision
Video gamer in Fort Gay, W.Va. ousted from Xbox for using the word "gay."

Reporter: Randy Yohe
Email Address: randy.yohe@wsaz.com

FORT GAY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Hard core video gamers are usually very focused players, not prone to the usual distractions. But an unusual distraction has gamers and the mayor in Fort Gay, W.Va. outraged. Now they're fighting a corporate computer giant.
The battle is all about one three letter word, and pride, Fort Gay pride.
Intense. That's how Josh Moore gets when he logs on to his on line Xbox live account -- paid for in advance -- and does battle with other Xbox gamer’s world wide.
But Josh has an intense fight going on with the Xbox and Microsoft folks themselves, his account was suspended for inappropriate content in his general profile. The content in question -- Josh's home town -- Fort Gay, W.Va.
“I'm frustrated that this would be an issue. I'm proud of where I live and this makes no sense,” said Moore.............

this is quite an interesting BUT SAD story

Froggy’s Last Story

The F stood for Fergus. That was how neighbors in his working-class neighborhood in deep Brooklyn knew him: a bearish pariah holed up in a fetid apartment stuffed with a lifetime of newspapers, books, belongings and all sorts of trash, who worked nights as a printer in Manhattan and ranted about his horrid childhood.
The F also stood for Froggy. That’s what fans in the rabid science-fiction world on the Internet called him: a witty and eloquent man prone to using obscure words and coining new ones, who published numerous books, articles and short stories to great acclaim and spun fantastic tales about his travels.......
