i'm not black. can't pretend to FULLY know what it's like to 'shop while black'. i know what it's like to shop while being a rose is a rose. i'm a bit on the unusual side. i'm not your grrrl next door. when i go into a store i'm followed. almost always. have i even stolen from a store? no. do i think about stealing? no.
i have seen the results of both driving while black and shopping while black. i get away easily being white. they usually give up on me after a couple of minutes - seeing i'm NOT a threat to steal. people of color do not. to the woman in the red dress (the first one they show sticking up for the 'shopper' and the bunch of people at the end who walked out with the 'shopper', YOU'RE MY KIND O' PEEPS. a big fat shout out to you

Post-racial America: shopping while black
by: Pam Spaulding
I get sick watching this, hearing the excuses for the discrimination. And I've had this happen to me more than once (only in NYC, mind you, not here in NC), and hailing a cab while black (again, in NYC). If you had a front row seat to this kind of racism, would you take action? Nothing -- that's what one patron does. It's not her problem, and she probably sides with the salesperson anyway, looking at the expression on her face.........
