i wish i could say i was making this up

from the perfectly ridiculous there comes this:

Man held as terrorism suspect over punk song

LONDON (Reuters) - British anti-terrorism detectives escorted a man from a plane after a taxi driver had earlier become suspicious when he started singing along to a track by punk band The Clash, police said Wednesday.
Detectives halted the London-bound flight at Durham Tees Valley Airport in northern England and Harraj Mann, 24, was taken off.
The taxi driver had become worried on the way to the airport because Mann had been singing along to The Clash's 1979 anthem "London Calling," which features the lyrics "Now war is declared -- and battle come down" while other lines warn of a "meltdown expected."
Mann told British newspapers the taxi had been fitted with a music system which allowed him to plug in his MP3 player and he had been playing The Clash, Procol Harum, Led Zeppelin and the Beatles to the driver.

(good thing he wasn't listening to nomber nye un nomber nye un nomber nye un)

THE CLASH LYRICS
"London Calling"
London calling to the faraway towns Now war is declared, and battle come
down London calling to the underworld Come out of the cupboard, you boys and
girls London calling, now don't look to us Phoney Beatlemania has bitten the
dust London calling, see we ain't got no swing 'Cept for the ring of that
truncheon thing [Chorus 1:]The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in Meltdown
expected, the wheat is growing thin Engines stop running, but I have no fear
'Cause London is drowning, and I live by the river London calling to the
imitation zone Forget it, brother, you can go it alone London calling to the
zombies of death Quit holding out, and draw another breath London calling, and I
don't wanna shout But when we were talking, I saw you nodding out London
calling, see we ain't got no high Except for that one with the yellowy eyes
[Chorus 2: (x2)] The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in Engines stop
running, the wheat is growing thin A nuclear era, but I have no fear 'Cause
London is drowning, and I live by the river Now get this London calling, yes, I
was there, too An' you know what they said? Well, some of it was true! London
calling at the top of the dial After all this, won't you give me a smile? London
calling I never felt so much alike [fading] alike alike alike

I'm pretty close to speechless at this stupidity ... however, this is exactly the kinda shit you get when you create paranoia and tell everyone to be on the lookout for suspicious activity ... most untrained and stupid people will have their own ideas of what's suspicious ... usually anything that isn't totally the oatmeal they are used to in their own pathetic closed down lives ... and they WANT to be the big important snitch for law enforcement ... at least this guy wasn't wasted by terror cops for listening to the Clash ...

It’s odd how there seems to be twenty-year “terror" cycles just like there are economic cycles, etc. “London Calling” has gone from urgent to on-hold to urgent again. Joe Strummer must be looking down on us and saying, “Bwaughghaww! Blimey!” Which is as it should be.
