(and yesterday my friend 'm' and i got into it with our boss. he said kids should NOT have watched obama's speech-and get the reason why-because it would cut into their educational time. yes, he really did say that and yes, he's a fairly intelligent man too. i was shouting at him-hey it was early and no one else was around. 'm' was calm but not me. what sort of bullshite is that? isn't a half hour out of a student's day AT LUNCH TIME educational if they are going to listen to the president of the united states of america? won't it perhaps get them a might interested in politics, how this country is run???? 'k' on this one YOU'RE FULL O' SHITE)
School refuses Obama speech, but will bus kids to see Bush
-John Byrne
A Texas school which refused to air President Barack Obama's live classroom address is planning to bus students to see the president.
Did school officials reverse course after realizing Obama's speech wasn't political, as conservatives had claimed? Nope. They're sending fifth graders to see another president: former President George W. Bush, and his wife, Laura. Bush is speaking alongside several Dallas Cowboys players and prominent Texas business leaders.
"District officials said it's part of a Cowboys Stadium field trip that the North Texas Super Bowl Host Committee invited 28 fifth-grade classes to attend several months ago," a local NBC affiliate wrote Wednesday morning. "The event launches the Super Bowl committee's largest-ever youth education program. Students must have their parents' permission to attend, school officials said.".........

More and more I am starting to believe we should let Mexico have Texas. Use to not think that way...but anyone who does not want not think that way, and I don't think there are many left in Texas who don't these days, run for Arizona, and let's move the fence around Texas. It's Bush country.
texas is NOT all full o' idiots. i've been and i liked it a great deal. the people i met were gracious and friendly.
Ok, NOT ALL....some. How about taking the tail of texas and sawing it off?
fine by me but austin and san antonio stay with us
Good choices. I would add Kerrville, for the sake of friends who go to the folk festival there every year.
And yes, I know several Texans who were (initially) glad when Dubya was elected President, because it meant he was leaving Texas.
i actually enjoyed the deep ellum section of dallas as well. so we'll spare that too
Also, vis a vis your discussion with your boss, I would add not just an address of the President, but the President addressing them directly. Y'know, the much vaunted Future of America? When was the last time anyone bothered?
Moreover, there is another issue at play. Maybe it would have been of lesser importance for the kids of Darien, New Canaan and Greenwich, where dropout rates are low. Not so much a waste of time, I think, for the kids of Bridgeport. But it had to be made an event if there was to be any lasting impact.
I went to watch the Inauguration at the local State University campus, which has a very large non-white student population. The room was packed and the enthusiasm overwhelming. When Barack Obama took the oath of office, a whole ballroom of teenagers, without prompting, rose to their feet. I don't think they would have done that for George Bush. Hell, I wouldn't have done that for Bush.
So no, I don't think it can fairly be said that Obama's Education Address to the Future of America cut into anyone's educational time. I think plenty of kids will have learned a great deal in that half hour.
this isn't about students but i watched with a group of people too (diverse). in the cafeteria at work they have huge screens. they played the inauguration on those screens. i sat there and cried the whole time. i could FEEL the power surge throughout the room. from me to my neighbor and on to the next. it was more than important for barack obama to speak directly to school kids ESPECIALLY in the bridgeports of the nation. i believe that with my whole being
