i don't think one can change from gay to straight or straight to gay. i think some people are confused about their sexuality (or more likely don't wish to admit it). i think some people are genuine bi. i think some people are deniers. well if you look at this story where 'ex' gays are demanding RIGHTS, fine. i just want EVERYONE to have EQUAL rights. and shite yeah, that goes for GAYS as well as 'ex' GAYS. ‘Ex-gays’ a protected minority group, DC court rules

People who were once homosexual but changed their sexual orientation are a protected minority under human rights laws, a District of Columbia judge ruled earlier this summer.

The ruling, which was handed down in June but only brought to light when Washington City Paper reported on it Tuesday, sided against a support group for former homosexuals, Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays, in their lawsuit against the National Education Association. But, in siding against the group, the judge stated nonetheless that homosexuals who have changed their sexual orientation to straight are a protected minority under DC’s human rights laws.

The move is certain to cause mixed feelings in the gay-rights community, which is generally happy to see human rights involving sexual orientation expanded, but many of whose members reject the notion of homosexuality as something that can be voluntary changed.......

Two women who say they were asked to leave a Silver Spring restaurant after embracing at the counter will return to the establishment in protest Wednesday evening.

Aiyi'nah Ford said she and her partner Torian Brown finished their meal at the Tastee Diner, which is part of a chain of three area restaurants. Ford said that after she and Brown finished eating and paid, they waited at the counter to give their waitress her tip, and embraced.

Ford said a manager she identified only by the first name Paul, asked if they could "please take that outside." Ford asked Paul if he was serious, and he said that he was. Ford noted that a heterosexual couple was kissing at a nearby booth.

"He proceeded to say that this was a family establishment and that people are trying to eat, as though our embrace would make someone sick," Ford said.

She said the waitress followed the women outside after she received her tip and apologized, adding that the incident was embarrassing and that similar incidents have happened before.

"That was the icing on the cake," Ford said.

Now, Ford, Brown, and close to 80 of their friends have pledged to visit the Tastee Diner Wednesday for a "kiss-in" type protest. .........

Since the days in the late 1970s, when the New Right began its takeover of the Republican Party, it has cultivated a militia of white people armed with a grudge against those who brought forth the social changes of the '60s.

These malcontents have been promised their day of retribution, a day for which they are more than ready. Few seem to understand that they are merely dupes for a corporate agenda that will only worsen the conditions in which they live.

Why, you may ask, would men of power and fame shake the rough, unmanicured hands of gun enthusiasts, conspiracy theorists, gay-haters, misogynists and racists?

Because somebody's got to do the dirty work. Magnates don't like to soil their French cuffs, and it's hard for a bunch of rich guys to garner sympathy for threats to their bottom lines. It's the classic inside-outside game that the right wing of the GOP has played for the last two decades........

GOP's 'Obama card' is unintentionally hilarious

This may be the worst online political ad ever conceived.

The "Obama card" campaign, found here, was launched on Thursday to very little acclaim. It resides on GOP.com and is paid for by the Republican National Committee.

It's something of an interactive feature that lets users ring up a sale on the "Obama card," which apparently makes everything free. (This is the level of discourse offered by a major political party?) The fun comes in when you get to take your "Obama card" through an online shopping spree, right from the GOP's own product portal.

As pointed out by John Aravosis over at Americablog, the GOP store contains many, many questionable items, ranging from the anti-Semitic to pornographic. Aravosis searched for "jew" and got "Jews and Their Lies" as a result, among others. A search for "latino" rendered "The Latino Threat." A search for "gay," however, resulted in a GOP scolding. "Bad Word!" the "Obama card" search proclaims.

Inspired by John's findings, I did a little searching around of my own, checking for every odd thing I could think of.

A search for "Bush" returned with "The Bush Tragedy" by author Jacob Weisberg, along with "Family of Secrets" by Russ Baker (fantastic book, I highly recommend it).............

Fundamentalists blame Wall Street's woes on gays

Christian fundamentalists are suggesting gays and lesbians are to blame for Wall Street's woes, a frequently made charge in the wake of national calamities.

In a September 25th blog post titled 'The Nation Will Right Itself If It Fixes Sex', Christian Civil League of Maine Executive Director Michael Heath writes that the financial crisis facing Wall Street is a symptom of America's sinful sexual culture, including the acceptance of gay unions.

“Our crisis is a symptom, not the cause,” writes Michael Heath. “I am not saying I know whether this financial crisis is God's judgment or not. It is not for me to know that definitively.”

Heath goes on to list policy changes that would make God “crack a smile,” including: End abortion rights and defund non-profit groups supporting it, amend state constitutions to ban gay marriage and eliminate domestic partnerships and civil unions for gay and lesbian couples, and end discrimination against private religious schools and homeschools........

Only gay right is to die, says Ron Owen's sticker

GUN lobbyist Ron Owen has been told he is entitled to express his homophobic views, but that he went too far with the bumper sticker: "Gay Rights? Under God's law the only rights gays have is the right to die."

Queensland's Anti-Discrimination Tribunal found Mr Owen guilty of inciting hatred against homosexuals with the bumper sticker when he parked his car outside the Cooloola Shire Council officers in Gympie, north of Brisbane.

The publisher of the ultra-right-wing pro-militia magazine Lock Stock & Barrel and former local councillor was also chastised on Monday for comments he made in the ensuing public outcry that engulfed the rural community, The Australian reports.

The former president of the National Firearm Owners of Australia was taken to the tribunal by several local lesbians, who claimed they had been offended despite only one having seen the bumper sticker.

Two of the women were awarded $5000, with a third awarded $2500 in damages.

Tribunal member Darryl Rangiah handed down a 77-page decision, which also ordered Mr Owen to publish a written apology for inciting hatred and causing offence to the homosexual community of Gympie........

Gay attack swept under the shrug

It was his tight, white jeans, snakeskin shoes and the fairy that Nima Daivari wore on a chain around his neck that prompted a stranger to call him a faggot and attack him.

And it was Daivari's boxing training that led him to pound back at his assailant, headlocking him until police arrived at the scene on the 16th Street Mall.

What happened next is tougher to explain.

A Denver cop not only refused to press charges, but he wouldn't investigate the hate crime or even bother to take the attacker's name.

In the end, the bad guy slipped away, the officer was slapped on the wrist and now Daivari has lost his civil-rights case because the city says Daivari, as a gay man, has no constitutional right to require an arrest.

Something is wrong with this story.

"So basically anyone can walk up, assault a gay man on a crowded street and Denver essentially ignores it. That's messed up, and people there should know it," says Daivari, 26, a recent law school graduate in New York City.

On St. Patrick's Day 2007, he was on his first and only visit to Denver when he, his cousin and her boyfriend were walking home from dinner at a 16th Street eatery.

"What may be the most embarrassing thing is that I have to admit to everyone that I actually ate at the Cheesecake Factory," Daivari quips..........

Even by the low standards of the Republican News Network, this morning's attack on Rachel Maddow, on the Fox News network, as a "lesbian Air America host" was a despicable new low. Those words, an open appeal to bigotry and hate, said by an alleged media analyst named Tim Graham, were met with laughter and chortles by the Fox News team on air. This is sick and despicable stuff, even for Fox News.

Here is a message to Barack Obama: You need to spend more time fighting back against the lies and smears of a Swift Boat campaign more ugly than the campaign against John Kerry, and less time having sweet-talk meetings with Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes followed by professorial discourse with Bill O'Reilly. This is war, Barack, and you had better fight back.

GOP axes delegate guide over gay listings

The Virginia delegation cancelled an order of a publication it planned to hand out to visitors at the upcoming Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, because it included a six-page section for gays and lesbians, KSTP reported.

150 copies of the "Secrets of the City" guide, printed by The Rake, were ordered by the campaign for Virginia Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling to hand out to delegates as gifts on arrival at the convention, which starts on September 1.

"I am so terribly sorry to do this," Bolling's political director Melissa Busse wrote to The Rake, "especially when the both of you have been so 'out of your way' helpful, generous and easy to work with. But, we need to cancel the order for 150 of the 'Secrets of the City' guidebooks...having a section dedicated solely to GLBT (sic) will be a BIG problem for many of our folks. We simply can't hand them out."......

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 18 -- Doctors may not refuse medical treatment to gay men or lesbians for religious reasons, the California Supreme Court unanimously ruled Monday.

The court ruled that physicians' constitutional right to the free exercise of religion does not exempt businesses that serve the public from following state law that prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

That holds true, Justice Joyce L. Kennard wrote in the 18-page decision, "even if compliance poses an incidental conflict with the defendants' religious beliefs."

If a doctor wants to refuse a service because of religious beliefs, the court found, he or she must refuse all patients, or provide a doctor who can provide the service to everyone............

In an August 15 blog post, James Edwards, co-host of the "pro-White" Political Cesspool Radio Show, responded to a Media Matters for America item noting that Jerome Corsi, author of The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality, appeared on the July 20 edition of the show and is reportedly scheduled to appear in its August 17 broadcast. In his post, headlined "Gays, liberals attack Jerome Corsi," Edwards wrote that Media Matters was "founded and is run by homosexual David Brock." After asserting that Media Matters is funded by "a bunch of 'wealthy liberals,' " Edwards said: "And what do you want to bet that a lot of those 'wealthy liberals' have funny last names?"

Edwards also wrote: "And notice that no one ever refutes anything I've written. They can't. But they hate the fact that I'm telling the truth on my blog and on the radio show, so, because they can't refute me, they simply resort to name calling." In fact, Media Matters highlighted some of Edwards' comments. Edwards has asserted on his blog that "[i]nterracial sex is white genocide" and called British historian David Irving -- who was, according to BBC News, "jailed by an Austrian court after pleading guilty to denying that the Holocaust took place" -- a "real hero" and "a survivor of the Jewish Holocaust against free speech." ......
