roger ebert writes a mean column (by mean i mean insightful)

and NO, it's NOT about a movie (i wish it WAS just a movie)

The anger of the festering fringe
I've had these thoughts for some time, but have been reluctant to express them. Now so many others have voiced them that it's pointless to remain silent. I am frightened by the climate of insane anti-Obama hatred in this country. I'm not referring to traditional conservatives or Republicans. They're part of the process. I'm speaking of the lunatic fringe, the frothers, the extremist rabble who are sweeping up the ignorant and credulous into a bewildering and fearsome tide of reckless rhetoric.

There have always been nuts. Remember when the John Birch society thought Kennedy was a communist? In those innocent days most of the American people were reasonable. They'd shake their heads in wonder at such a weird notion. Kennedy might be one of those liberals, but he wasn't a commie. And when people said Johnson murdered Kennedy? Also ridiculous. But slowly, ominously, things began to change. After his death, it was said that Edward Kennedy was a Soviet agent. These theories have rabid subscribers.

Obama is a Muslim. Obama was born in Kenya. Obama was a terrorist. Obama will destroy Medicare. Obama will kill your grandmother. Obama is a racist. Obama wants atheism taught in the schools. Obama wants us to pay for the health care of illegal immigrants.............

i wish this was humor too

it SOUNDS like it COULD be humor, but alas, it is not. it's real and it's one of the reasons we're fucked.

ok? (oh and NOT because as This, in all sincerity, is what I expect in return for my taxes: a five-year-long absurdist theater performance about a magically, awesomely, mesmerizingly powerful nipple that was revealed for less than one second to millions of half-drunk spectators on a Sunday afternoon in 2004. The budget: Millions of dollars and rising. Starring: the FCC, the highest court in the United States, major media companies, and a cast of thousands of lawyers. Script: A 12-foot-high stack incomprehensible legal documents. I hope the show never ends. Bravo! "........

Rep. Virginia Foxx: ‘There Are No Americans Who Don’t Have Health Care’

Earlier today, several female Republican House members held a press conference today to attack President Obama’s push for health insurance reform. “The Democrat way is not reforming healthcare, it’s destroying it,” announced Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN).

Perhaps the most attention-grabbing moment occurred when Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) announced that “there are no Americans who don’t have healthcare“:

Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) disputes President Obama’s claim that 47 million Americans lack healthcare. “There are no Americans who don’t have healthcare. Everybody in this country has access to healthcare,” she says. “We do have about 7.5 million Americans who want to purchase health insurance who can not afford it,” she says, urging Congress to adopt a new plan for healthcare reform that wouldn’t “destroy what is good about healthcare in this country” and “give the government control of our lives.”

As if It Needed to, Virginia Bans Smiles at the DMV

Washington Post Staff Writer

Few places in Virginia are as draining to the soul and as numbing to the buttocks as the branch offices of the Department of Motor Vehicles. And yet, until recently, smiling was still permitted there.

No more. As part of the DMV's effort to develop super-secure driver's licenses and foolproof identification cards, the agency has issued a smile ban, directing customers to adopt a "neutral expression" in their portraits, thereby extinguishing whatever happiness comes with finally hearing one's number called.

The driver's license photo, it seems, is destined to look like a mug shot........

she just WILL NOT let us forget she exists

every time we try to, she opens up her shite filled mouth

now i can see wanting to revolt because our government lied to us and got us into a war based on those lies. i can see wanting to revolt when natural disasters occur in our own country and our government does next to nothing. i can see wanting to revolt when our government denies global warming. i can see wanting to revolt when our government doesn't separate church and state and touts 'intelligent' design. i can see wanting to revolt when our government attempts (with all of it's might) to deny women rights. i can see wanting to revolt when our government spies on us WITHOUT the proper authority / warrants. oh i can see that and more. but apparently the bio-tch called bachmann cannot

Crazy Rep. Michele Bachmann Calls for Armed Revolution

Posted by Steve Benen, Washington Monthly

It's obviously just rhetoric from overly-excited far-right lawmakers. It's no doubt intended to fire up the activists (and donors) who help Republicans succeed.

But when Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) casually refers to elected Democratic officials as the "enemy," and nonchalantly refers to keeping her supporters "armed and dangerous," it's probably a good time to remind Republican lawmakers to turn the temperature a bit. (via the University of Minnesota and the Dump Bachmann blog.)

Bachmann appeared over the weekend on the First Team radio show with John Hinderaker and Brian Ward, speaking about the horrible stuff that the Democrats are doing: "I'm a foreign correspondent on enemy lines and I try to let everyone back here in Minnesota know exactly the nefarious activities that are taking place in Washington."

Bachmann also spoke out against the cap-and-trade proposals currently making their way through Washington, and how she'll be distributing information against it at an upcoming event in the district. "I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax, because we need to fight back," said Bachmann. "Thomas Jefferson told us, having a revolution every now and then is a good thing. And the people -- we the people -- are going to have to fight back hard if we're not going to lose our country."..........

Glenn Beck Recycles "X-Files" Plot to Spread Fear of Obama

FOX News personality, Glenn Beck, has been using his airtime to broadcast a right-wing conspiracy theory about the Obama administration setting up 'concentration camps,'part of a secret plot to establish totalitarian rule. Curiously, Beck's criticism of President Obama's economic policies seems to have been ripped directly from the plot of FOX TV's past hit series The X-Files (1993-2002) and the films based on the series (1998, 2008).

While Beck claims he is not 100% certain that the camps exist, he has proclaimed repeatedly that the Obama administration's economic policies are pushing the country into "totalitarianism' and that he "cannot debunk" the existence of the camps, which are supposedly being set up under the auspice of the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA), but which Beck claims will be used soon for mass imprisonment of American citizens with right-leaning political views.

Olbermann: 'Absurd' Bush defender 'had to be stoned'
David Edwards and Rachel Oswald
Former Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer’s Wednesday attempts to spin the Bush presidency on Iraq and the economy were met with nothing but derision and disdain by MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann who said Fleischer must have been ‘stoned’ to make such statements.

Appearing on Hardball with Chris Matthews earlier in the day, Fleischer defended former President Bush’s legacy, saying “I think Barack Obama should say ‘thank you’ every day that he inherited a world without Saddam Hussein in it.”

He added that as a result of the Bush tax cuts, the country got “55 straight months of job creation.”

Fleischer also attempted to propagate the now widely discredited neoconservative theory that Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden were allies and that Hussein had a hand in 9/11 by saying, “After Sept. 11, how could we take a chance that Saddam might not strike again.”

To all of these statements, Olbermann on his Wednesday night program Countdown responded with “Fleischer had to be stoned” and that recent attempts by Fleischer and other Bush aides to spin the presidency were “patently absurd” and “almost insane.”

Keyes: Stop Obama or U.S. 'will cease to exist'
David Edwards and Rachel Oswald
Alan Keyes, a three-time presidential candidate, called President Obama a "radical communist" and a "usurper" and said with him in charge, America "is going to cease to exist" at a pro-life fundraiser Thursday.

"Obama is a radical communist and I think it is becoming clear. That is what I told people in Illinois and now everybody realizes it is coming true," said Keyes who ran unsuccessfully against Obama for the Senate in 2004. "He is going to destroy this country and we are either going to stop him or the United States of America is going to cease to exist," said Keyes.

In an interview in Hastings, Neb. with a KHAS reporter at the fundraiser, Keyes called Obama an "abomination" for some of his pro-choice views.

"The man is an abomination," Keyes said, going on to accuse Obama of being supportive of infanticide. ".............

who the HELL watches this shite?

who the hell is BUYING this shite? really now. who?

Al Gore is creating another Hitler Youth, Glenn Beck feverishly warns

Sometimes I think Glenn Beck is saying the crazy things he does just to get attention from liberals for being so crazy. It's the Ann Coulter model of right-wing punditry: the more outrageous the better for your ratings.

But Beck isn't as smart as Coulter. He's also more of a Bircherite populist, and he's convinced himself that the more mawkish the better he'll appeal to that sensibility. Unfortunately for Beck, he is also handicapped by not having a very firm grip on reality in the first place (not that this ever stopped other right-wing millionaire pundits). It shows up in his great fondness for right-wing populist conspiracy theories.

So after resorting to the good old Bircher standby -- "Commie! Obama's a Commie!" -- the night before, on his show last night he veered completely to the other side of the road and accused liberals of incipient Nazism:

Last night, I told you that we were on the road to socialism. Some comedy, you know, coming your way. Well, tonight -- oh dear, this may not go well -- when I finish this story, some may believe we're on the way to the Hitler Youth...........

he is just un effing believable

he is clueless. i used to vacillate between thinking he was stupid and a puppet of others (read: the big dick) OR that he was brilliant and he simply didn't care.

the following is king george chattin' it up with that goof ball larry king on tuesday night

Bush low point: 'Being called a racist'

..............“In fact, the truth of the matter is the response was pretty darn quick,” Bush said, “if you think about the fact that the Coast Guard and a lot of brave kids were pulling 30,000 people off of roofs as soon as the storm passed, as soon as they found people on those roofs.”

King then pointed out that a lot of mistakes were made in the days following the hurricane, to which Bush responded: “Well, yes, at all levels of government, absolutely.”

“No question,” the president added. “And that’s a good thing about government. By the way, we have had, that I know of, sitting right here, eight hurricanes, major hurricanes, and seven and a half were dealt with the way everybody expected them to be dealt with.

The Mississippi part of Katrina was dealt with well, even though it was a really horrible hurricane.”

“My brother was governor of Florida, and seven major hurricanes hit there. And the response was always pretty good. It's the response out of New Orleans and Louisiana which was not as good as we would have liked.”.........
