i don't get it either. i really AM a movie snob (fellini is my favorite in the entire universe). yes, i even saw alphaville. but i loved the boondock saints. hell, i loved the blues brothers too. movies became my passion (and my escape) when i was quite young. i remember seeing alice in wonderland with w.c. fields and cary grant and gary cooper (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0023753/). there are just some things one cannot explain
Random Favs.....hmmmm.....anything P.T. Anderson, Kubrick, Kurosawa, Scorcese, Woody Allen, Marx Brothers, David Mamet, Billy Wilder, Ingmar Bergman, Robert Altman, and on and on and on.
Ok, so those weren't movies...but you get the drift.
Funny....I have Juliet Of The Spirits on DVD (I have all of Fellini's flicks), but have yet to watch that one. Obviously, I need to do that!
8 1/2 is my favorite of his. La Strada is a close second (for the performances and the weepy ending), then Roma and Satyricon tied (they always struck me as oddly similar), then City of Women (hilarious), and finally Nights of Cabiria (his wife was so beautiful).
Boo Hiss on your hate for Ingmar. Sit and watch Hour of the Wolf, Persona, or Wild Strawberries. Sure, he could be pretentious, but damn when he was on top of his game, there was none better.
After Hours is very good. Funny as hell.
Altman is sorely missed. Thought that his last movie was very fitting. His movies are always a welcome companion for a lazy rainy day. Long, conversational, laid back, and amazing.
Yes, have seen Born Liar. Have you ever seen his documentary on CLOWNS!!!? lol
oh yes i saw i clowns. not sure it's the same movie though. i don't think it was a documentary. like most if not all of his movies, it WAS from real life/autobiographical. and yes, i liked it a great deal. clowns and all.
i have seen several bergman movies. granted not all the way through. nope nope and nope. i do NOT like him in a boat. i do not like him with a goat. i do not like him here or there. i do not like him anywhere

8 1/2
roma
nights of cabiria
la dolce vita

I will refrain from comment on Bergman's movies*, but will say his stage production of Maria Stuart was kick ass.
*except to say that they're worth seeing just to get the jokes in Love & Death
