Saudi Arabia to Punish Survivor of Gang Rape with 200 Lashes and Prison Term

Yes, you read that right. A woman who was raped by six armed men is being punished by our BFF Wahhabists in Saudi Arabia. Huzzah for our awesome ally!The 19-year-old Shiite woman was originally sentenced to receive 90 lashes for "being in the car of an unrelated male at the time of the rape," but after the woman had the unmitigated temerity of not unquestioningly submitting to being tortured as punishment for "getting herself raped," judges on Saudi Arabia's Higher Judicial Council more than doubled her punishment for "her attempt to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media."Her lawyer, human rights activist Abdul Rahman al-Lahem, has been banned by the court from further working on her case, had his law license revoked, and been "summoned by the ministry of justice to appear before a disciplinary committee in December" after he appealed the original verdict—not only because his client was sentenced to receive lashes, but because her Sunni rapists were sentenced to shockingly paltry sentences of one to five years.On appeal, the court increased their sentences to two to nine years. And they gave the women they raped 110 more lashes and a prison term.This case is so horrendous, it makes any commentary about victim-blaming superfluous. If you don't get why it's heinous, I don't think anything I could say will convince you is so horrendous, it makes any commentary about victim-blaming superfluous................

That's our ally . . . they gave us Osama Bin Laden, most of the 9/11 hijackers, and assassinations of CIA operatives in the Middle East.
But they have funneled billions of U.S. Tax Dollars, and hundreds of billions of dollars in oil revenue into the hands of Bush's closest friends.
i think i need to be president. there are so many countries that absolutely would be kicked the f**k OFF of my christmas card list (so to speak) INCLUDING those asswipes AND libya too (list is longer)
If you were president would you funnel billions of tax dollars into my personal account? I'll make up a fake private army or pretend to help disaster victims.
if i was president, i'd be in darfur to HELP. i'd ignore any country like saudi arabia who jailed and lashed women who were RAPED. i'd funnel billions into education and health care. i'd get a bunch of peeps together to form some sort of program to help those on welfare GET OFF of welfare. i'd make sure safe sex was taught (i have nothing against abstinence except the fact it DOESN'T WORK, but that could be taught AS WELL). i'd SEPARATE church and state. i'd make sure our veterans were cared for. and that's just the beginning.
Sounds like you'd actually be a world leader and that you'd actually make this planet a better place to live. That's so far away from what we've come to expect - 180 degrees, in fact - that Exxon and several Mega-Churches and Chaquita would pay to have you assassinated.

i was in a seminar today (just my department, but i have a big dept). i actually was enjoying it and i usually HATE that stuff. we didn't have an outside facilitator, but another dept member was doing it (on qa and testing). after the break (3 hours today and 3 hours again tomorrow) my boss brought in a giant bag of candy for us to share. i took a tootsie pop. somehow, i swallowed wrong (not even the pop mind you, just a saliva swallow) and i thought i was going to die. i ran out of the room and into the loo. i couldn't breathe and at the same time i was heaving (NOT a pretty site). eventually after much coughing and wretching (i never threw up though) i was able to come back to some order. my eyes were a mess and i was a mess. they DID send someone to look for me but she went to another loo first. i went back in to the meeting and everything ended find. just telling you NO ONE needs to pay anyone to harm me. i am perfectly capable of doing that myself
