i'm not kidding when i say

i got a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach when i read this story

New Florida town would restrict abortion
Domino's founder building community around Catholic university
NAPLES, Florida (AP) -- If Domino's Pizza founder Thomas S. Monaghan has his way, a new town being built in Florida will be governed according to strict Roman Catholic principles, with no place to get an abortion, pornography or birth control.
The pizza magnate is bankrolling the project with at least $250 million and calls it "God's will."
Civil libertarians say the plan is unconstitutional and are threatening to sue.
The town of Ave Maria is being constructed around Ave Maria University, the first Catholic university to be built in the United States in about 40 years. Both are set to open next year about 25 miles east of Naples in southwestern Florida.
The town and the university, developed in partnership with the Barron Collier Co., an agricultural and real estate business, will be set on 5,000 acres with a European-inspired town center, a massive church and what planners call the largest crucifix in the nation, at nearly 65 feet tall. Monaghan envisions 11,000 homes and 20,000 residents.....

(and i wonder instead of building the LARGEST crucifix in the nation, why not donate that money to some catholic orphanage or educational program or catholic soup kitchen (there's a damn fine one in hartford - mercy shelter)

and by the way, if it seems like i am PROMOTING abortion - i am NOT. it is MY right as a woman in the united states to have one or not. it's also ALL OF MY SISTER'S RIGHTS

I live in Florida. Please don't let this shit happen here or anywhere. Sounds scary to me, and not in a good scary kind of way. I didn't think anyone got to pick and choose who lives where. Didn't we get that straight in the 60's?

I agree with you, Rose.

(jean luc, i DO have a query for you. why is it you CONTINUALLY AND ALWAYS tugged on your uniform top???)

Picard! What an honor!

What damn horrible post! I'll need to catch up on this over the weekend. It gets so hard to keep up on all the wingnut developments...you know.

Listen, thanks for your enthusiastic support of Corruptco. I have linked (or tried to!!!) the posts on LTN blog so we can surf around and see who posted what. I know you are familiar with many of the bloggers as we run into each other, like at Neil's each morning!!!

You have some great posts and I love your comments when I run across them. Just wanted to say thank you and that your support is appreciated.

Well, I wish i could say I'll boycott their pizza because of this, but I boycott it because it sucks. What a twisted asshole this guy is. On could argue that he is proof of the nonexistence of a just God. May his pepperoni rot and fall off ... the shelf ...

Rose, before you find out for yourself, let me be the first to tell you that I too wrote on this topic today...albeit, as you might imagine, from a slightly different perspective.

In other words, guess who just bought a primo lot in the shadow of the giant crucifix?

P.S. As a former resident of that part of the state, I can tell you that as it sits in the center of Hurricane Alley, the next storm that comes through will send that humongous cross a'flying...and, no doubt, it will land on Hartford's Mercy Shelter!

Man, that's quite the state you got down there. Jeb's Jesus Prisons and now this! Talk about holier-than-thou! Oh, and thanks, Rex! Now I'm having visions of that 65 foot cross flying across Florida...oh geez...now I suppose I'll have to do another friggin' collage...

graeme, even though i come from a blue state, i often wonder if a town like that wouldn't be at home here as well.

and i'll extend an invitation to you too. if you're ever in my hood, the pizza is on me (homemade)

I never had Domino's pizza either. Thank god. At least I don't feel as if I, in some small eensie weensie way, contributed to the financing of this travesty.

*grievously pounds chest, 'through my fault, through my fault, through my own fault' ...*

I once lived in a place where domino's was the only pizza, long ago and far away ... desperation, hunger, intoxication ... I'm not proud of it ... well ... actually I just took a bite and then I felt sick ... I didn't inhale tho' my domino's pizza confession ...

anita, it appears you and i are the lucky ones here

rory, make a GIANT bunch of pizza dough-for one pizza-(very easy: one cup water to three cups flour, a little tiny pinch of salt, 1 or 2 T olive oil and i use something sweet like honey or maple syrup or turbinado sugar when dissolving the 1 T of yeast in warm water) separate your dough into single pizza servings. put in plastic bags which you can rub with a tiny bit of olive oil and FREEZE them. if you're in the mood for pizza defrost , let rise top with what you have in your fridge and voila, pizza! i have made mashed potato pizza. spinich pizza, dessert pizza. the possibilities are endless

oh hell, i'll put a more detailed recipe up right now
