Quote of the Day

“Let me be clear: as a citizen, and as President, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country. That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances. This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakeable. The principle that people of all faiths are welcome in this country, and will not be treated differently by their government, is essential to who we are. The writ of our Founders must endure.” President Obama

Our CBC national news reported that Obama back pedaled a bit the next day when he said that, although the Muslim organization has the right to build where it wants, he's not saying that it's necessarily a wise decision to build on the proposed site. Sounds like he's playing to both sides of the fence!

He might have done well to stick with the "it's a local matter" line, but I suppose he had to say something, given the occasion. Still, all he did was paraphrase Bloomberg, so it isn't like his speech writers were making much of an effort. Not that it will matter to the Big White Heads.

me? i don't think there should be ANY places of worship of ANY kind. places of silence and places to meditate, sure. but if we give to one, we MUST give to the other (except of course for scientologists)
