stray and debra
i've posted this before but it's worthy of another
another take as well. the east village opera company:
That was great! I like hearing the classics transposed into another idiom. The guitar solos, in particular, rocked! Gives a whole new meaning to "popera," doesn't it?
Among my people, the word "popera" tends to be greeted with a roll of the eyes heavenward and that oh so evocative finger-down-the-throat gesture. Not to say that some of it can't be good, I suppose, but we've been so well-poisoned by the real thing, you see.
That said, EVOC's treatment of Delibes works well. What they do with the Tosca "Te Deum", however, is frankly disturbing.

ah, but i like them. then again, i'm hardly cultured
Nah, it's cool, only things grown in petrie dishes are cultured.
It only has to do with the angle you it approach from, and the angle I approach it from has a lot of a priori conditions.
