a plane has been diverted because of a CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT and another because of HONEY and now, every time there is a problem with a drunken (or sober) asshole, we're going to have to have FIGHTER JETS escort the plane down? i understand the need for safety. i WANT safety. i also want everyone to do their jobs (i.e. when someone's father goes to authorities and warns them their child may be up to no good, I WANT THE AUTHORITIES TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT-if it's a reasonable warning). sure one gets pissed off at how one is treated when one flys (sometimes, not all the time). that is now something we MUST LIVE WITH. we do NOT joke about bombs, or death or killing when we're anywhere NEAR an airport much less in the air.

we as a country can't afford to have military jets escort EVERY plane in our airspace that contains an asshole. it's just NOT possible. if someone causes an unreasonable problem on an airliner (i.e. locking oneself in the bathroom or giving the staff a note containing threatening messages) THEY SHOULD BE BANNED FROM FLYING FOR LIFE. no ifs ands or buts. end of story. period
