some use a microplane. not i. i use my own tiny NUTMEG GRATER made for JUST that purpose. the tiny lid lifts open and you can store the leftover nutmeg in the cap for your next grate. nutmeg is NOT just for sweet you know. my peeps put it in all sorts of stuff from white to red sauces to casseroles
