a plea for help (it's personal)

can someone explain to me WHY it's such an issue barack obama may or may NOT have had his hand over his heart during a rendition of the national anthem

INSTEAD Of making an issue out of millions of iraqis being displaced, tens of thousands being killed, thousands of our men and women being killed, an inadequate health care system in the us, an inadequate veterans health care system, homelessness in the us, poverty in the us, the treatment of gulf storm victims, the treasonous acts of certain members of our government by outing a covert cia agent and a HOST of other things in these same veins. YET they are upset barack doesn't have a flag lapel pin?

so, is someone going to help me by answering this?

Fox & Friends' Doocy reported Obama's "patriotism problems"
During the October 23 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends, while previewing a discussion of a clip of Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) in which Obama did not place his hand over his heart during the playing of the national anthem at a campaign event in Indianola, Iowa, co-host Steve Doocy asserted, "First he kicked his American flag pin to the curb. Now Barack Obama has a new round of patriotism problems," echoing an assertion made by the conservative blog NewsBusters. As Media Matters for America documented, during an October 3 interview with ABC-affiliate KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Obama was asked why he was not wearing an American flag pin on his lapel. ...........

I understand that the entire right-wing of the political spectrum is engaged in a massive demolition project with the Constitution of the United States as the object of demolishing, but .. .

Holding your hand over your heart during the Anthem is a matter of tradition and respect. I have always held my hand over my heart even when I've been angriest at my nation, our leaders, and the entire system. The only time I didn't hold my hand over my heart was when I was in uniform, then I saluted.

It's tradition, and it's respectful.

It's not the most important issue of the day . . . but it's not insignificant either.

The Fox morning propaganda crew has a long history of trashing those not in their corner along with at least trying to start right-wing rumors. Doocy several months ago made some statement that Obama had attended a Muslim school while he lived in Indonesia as a kid, implying that it was a radical school. That was struck down but not after it made the rounds at another Fox News show and the right wing blogs. And they really hit on John Edwards haircuts several times. The kicker for me was one day about six months after the Iraq invasion had turned up no WMD's. Doocy himself passed along what I think he said were intelligence sources saying that Saddam had moved his chemical and bio weapons to Syria. After months of propaganda saying that intelligence sources had slam dunk Intel saying Saddam was sitting on a huge WMD stockpile somehow they had sneaked the stuff out to Syria. In short they are selling crap but are smart enough to know that a good portion of Fox viewers will buy it and stay safely in the right wing corner. Fear is an easy sell to most suckers.

rick, on this oe i must disagree (on a point or two). i do think it IS expected of one to hold their hand over their heart during the national anthem (who KNEW there were guidelines????). however, to me, if someone does it or doesn't do it isn'[t too important. i want people to make a GIANT fuss over other issues, the loss of lives, the lack of healthcare, etc.

and bb, i believe doocy (well it could have been someone else) is the one that said something (ugly) about the houses burning in california.

zs, yeah huh!
