i do have to say every pit i personally have ever met, has been nice to people. i've seen several who have cats as house mates too. they all get along just fine.

i know if one trains a dog to fight or kill, it will do so, or if it cannot, it will usually be killed by those doing the training. these are NOT human beings to me. they're scum.

this is unprecedented. i know for a fact when fighting pits are 'rescued' 9 out of 10 times they are euthanized because they are deemed to dangerous to rehabilitate. well NOT in this case and it appears to have worked. heck one of these dogs wears a clown collar and is a therapy dog in a cancer ward!

man, i LOVE dogs and i sure am glad most of these dogs got a second chance. we all know other dogs won't.

oh and a shout out to U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson. he didn't have to do what he did. but he did it and saved a LOT of dogs.

When football superstar Michael Vick pleaded guilty last year to conspiring to run a dogfighting operation, we knew he had kept about 50 pit bulls on his 15-acre property in rural Surry County, Va., on a road named Moonlight. We knew the dogs were chained to car axles near wooden hovels for shelter. And we knew the dogs that didn't fight were beaten, shot, hanged, electrocuted or drowned. But we didn't know their names. Headlines described the nameless dogs as "menacing." Some animal rights groups called for the "ticking time bombs" to be euthanized as soon as Vick's case was closed and they were no longer valuable as evidence. That's what typically happens after a dogfighting bust. nstead, the court gave Vick's dogs a second chance. U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson ordered each dog to be evaluated individually, not judged by the stereotype of the breed. And he ordered Vick to pony up close to $1 million to pay for the lifelong care of those that could be saved.........

i've not seen this documentary

nor am i going to. i can watch all the blood and guts you have. IF and it's a BIG IF, i know it's NOT REAL. as soon as reality creeps in, i can't do it. i can't handle it. (speaking of which, i am a horror movie addict. i love 'em. i can't get enough of 'em. the more messy they are, the better i like them. EXCEPT for the movie i watched this weekend. hostel. I HATED IT. it was horrid. the violence and gore were unwatchable. am i getting soft in my old age?)

Way before Michael Vick got popped and became the scorned symbol of organized dogfighting, Bobby Brown spent years penetrating the secret society Vick inhabited. With cameras that resembled pagers and a microphone fastened to his zipper, Brown made a remarkable documentary on this underground subculture.
It took him 14 years. He began in 1991, got derailed, restarted, even got busted at one of the 12 dogfights he witnessed. Brown was intent on sounding an alarm, he says, about a cruel, menacing and illegal activity taking place in basements, barnyards, clearings in the woods and abandoned warehouses all across America.
(Just to be clear, we're not talking about Whitney Houston's incorrigible ex-husband. Not that Bobby Brown. This is Bobby J. Brown -- Suitland High School graduate, businessman, actor with small parts in "The Wire," "The Corner," "City by the Sea" and "Major League II" as Tom Berenger's double.)
When Brown finished his documentary, "Off the Chain," he shopped it around and got no takers. With help from actor Troy Garity ("Barbershop"), Brown's buddy from his days studying at New York's American Academy of Dramatic Arts, the 60-minute documentary was picked up by Allumination FilmWorks and released to DVD in 2005................

yesterday i read YET ANOTHER article (i can't find the link or i would have linked to it) about vick being railroaded. it said there were other football players out there who beat their wives and no one gives a shite.

WELL THAT'S NOT TRUE. i have no idea who beats their wives and who doesn't. i care about that, but i sure don't care about football. it has NOTHING to do with this story. i don't care if vick is allowed to play again or not. THAT IS NOT THE POINT. the color of his skin is NOT the point, the amount of money he has or doesn't have is NOT the point, who he hangs out with is NOT the point. and this dude, cortland milloy certainly is missing the point. he is saying if you sit down and eat a steak dinner (which i do NOT by the way but that is neither here nor there) you are JUST as guilty as michael vick. he is also bringing guns into the story???????????? i say let's just change vick's name to oj and get it over with. declare him innocent

Animal Cruelty Isn't Judged on a Level Playing Field

While eating a porterhouse the other night, I began to see the steak for what it was: a hunk of meat, blood and bone. I managed to disgust myself even more by imagining that a charbroiled piece of pit bull would not have looked much different from the gristle of beef on my fork.
Then I came back to my senses and continued to enjoy my meal.
Too bad for Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick that people like me love dogs more than cows. Or, to put it another way, I prefer the taste of Angus and Hereford to Rottweiler and pit bull. Otherwise, the federal agents who recently charged Vick with dogfighting would have to arrest nearly all of us for participating in far worse acts of animal cruelty........
............Vick's case ought to be handled by a state's attorney, but it isn't. He is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia. You'd think the guy had been caught smuggling a ton of heroin in the carcasses of dead poodles...........

STOP IT. stop defending michael vick. he's agreed to plead guilty. as far as i am concerned he IS guilty. STOP blaming his friends, the crowd he hangs with. STOP telling me what a good guy he is. (i can't find it now, but i read an article earlier where a teammate or friend said what a wonderful guy vick was because he tossed a ball around with the friend's son). a GOOD GUY DOES NOT buy dogs, fight dogs, TORTURE dogs and KILL DOGS. they don't. period. end of it.

............The most prominent theory, espoused by Boddie and Reeves, blames much of Vick's troubles on his continued association with childhood friends who have questionable pasts. Those same friends were the ones who agreed to testify against Vick in exchange for more lenient sentences for their roles in the crimes.........

Tossing Vick and Young Blacks to the Dogs

Professional dog fighting is a big, and expanding international business that’s way out of the reach of most poor young blacks.

West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd trembled with rage on the Senate floor as he lashed out at the barbarity of dog fighting. Byrd, a well-known inveterate animal lover, didn’t mention star Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick by name in his animal defending tirade. Vick has been indicted on federal charges linked to gambling and dog fighting. But Massachusetts Senator John Kerry did mention Vick. He demanded that the NFL suspend Vick. There was no hint that they singled out Vick for attack for any reason other than that they were enraged that a high profile athlete had abused animals and thereby sullied sport.
But the Humane Society of America, the legion of animal rights groups, and a handful of sports commentators that want Vick’s head skipped the racial subtleties and virtually declared that dog fighting is the “sport” of the ghetto, glorified by rappers, indulged in with bloody relish by gang members, and now by black athletes like Vick.......

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell yesterday ordered quarterback Michael Vick not to report to training camp with the Atlanta Falcons until the league has reviewed his legal troubles stemming from federal dogfighting charges.
Vick's playing status is to be determined by Goodell, and the NFL gave no timetable for the decision other than to announce that the review would be completed "as soon as possible."
"While it is for the criminal justice system to determine your guilt or innocence, it is my responsibility as commissioner of the National Football League to determine whether your conduct, even if not criminal, nonetheless violated league policies, including the personal conduct policy," Goodell wrote Vick in a letter yesterday, according to an NFL statement.................

Vick indicted in dog fighting investigation

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was indicted by a federal grand jury in connection with the dog fighting probe of his property in Virginia, ESPN television reported on Tuesday.
Vick was indicted for conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities, as well as to sponsor a dog in animal fighting venture, ESPN said.
The indictment reportedly came in US District Court for the Eastern District in Richmond, Virginia, according to the web site.
The report also stated that three others - Purnell Peace, Quanis Phillips and Tony Taylor - also were indicted by the grand jury on the same charges.
Dog fighting is illegal in Virginia and a felony in 48 of America's 50 states, including Virginia..............

Vick faces different kind of pressure now

.............A person who spoke with Vick at length after the indictments were announced said that the quarterback was "devastated" by the news. Whether those feelings were feigned or not, we can't say, because we weren't party to the conversation. But in reading the indictments, it isn't as if Vick's name is simply sprinkled into the federal documents. The pages are actually rife with references to the Atlanta star.
In late May, two federal law enforcement officials told ESPN.com they felt there was sufficient evidence to eventually indict Vick, but were less certain of mounting successful prosecution. There is a reason, however, that the Feds own a conviction rate of better than 95 percent. The government typically doesn't indict unless it knows it can probably convict, and that should be unsettling news for the Falcons and their quarterback.
On July 7, a day after the latest raid on Vick's property, one of those same federal sources told ESPN.com for a column that the quarterback was still part of the investigation. "Just because you've got a lot of links [lying] around doesn't mean you can call in a chain," the source said. "But it also doesn't mean you abandon the notion of seeing if those links might someday become a chain." .............
