here's the deal

from what i understand it is NOT sexual harassment unless one of the parties was unwilling, felt their person or their job was threatened, or in some way shape or form, had no choice in the matter.


i have railed against politicians and clergy for having affairs. NOT because of the affair per se, BUT because these very same clergy and politicians have spoken out against same sex marriage, homosexuality, other religions, comprehensive sex education, women AND/OR spoken of the SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE. i don't give a flying yoo hoo, who boinks who, when how or why (in general of course. there are exceptions). i DO give a flying yoo hoo about the holier than thou preachers and conservative evangelicals (of EVERY religion) who judge others but are fucking everything in sight.

that said, letterman's affair(s) don't bother me in the least. he has never said he's better than anyone else. he's never said god said no birth control. god said women are a lesser being. god said no same sex marriage. god said this or god said that. letterman is one of us. no better no worse.

there IS no issue unless as i said, the woman/women who he 'was with' didn't want to be WITH HIM.

that all said, i do have to admit i've always loved letterman. never liked carson, never liked leno and i sure as shite can't stand conan (he just creeps me out). letterman can be silly but he is THE most innovative, witty and cerebral one out there

For the intensely private Mr. Letterman, the revelations, which resulted from a bizarre extortion attempt, are sure to be extremely embarrassing, especially as he tries to extend his lead in the late-night contest. ”I have had sex with women who work for me on this show,” he told his audience on Thursday night, calling himself “creepy.” He added that he hoped “to protect my job.”

More seriously, they raised questions for both his company and CBS about whether his actions constituted sexual harassment or at least abuse of a power relationship over employees. .........

The comedy routine was taped in October of 1993, but it was never shown... until Friday night. Letterman accepted blame for banning the performance in the first place. And he apologized to Hicks’s mother, face to face.

The “censoring” of Bill Hicks by Letterman – who had been his biggest champion – was a major event in Hicks’s legendary life. Letterman didn’t know at the time that Hicks had pancreatic cancer and would be dead within months...................

sure, the msm included everything about ayers BUT MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY did NOT include a word about dave's asking mccain about liddy. and of course it would follow they didn't report on mccains answer (which he gave after MUCH hemming and hawing and if you didn't think for one second he was dying to deny a relationship betwixt and between himself and what i consider a domestic terrorist, g gordon liddy then you're an id-jit)

Until last night, when McCain was finally asked, point-blank, about his relationship to Liddy and the similarities between that relationship and the Obama-Ayers relationship he has attacked so harshly.

Who finally asked the question? The New York Times? The Washington Post? CNN's "best political team on television"?

Nope.

David Letterman asked McCain about Liddy, putting the nation's journalists to shame in the process.

For years, political professionals, academics, and media watchdogs have lamented the fact that some Americans get their news from late-night comedians and other entertainment. As it turns out, that might be a good thing.

Unfortunately, after Letterman broke the media's embargo on questioning McCain's relationship with Liddy, reporters quickly pretended it never happened -- or, if they did mention it, downplayed the significance of the relationship. Time's Mark Halperin described Letterman "hound[ing]" McCain over his Ayers attacks, adding, "The late-night host doesn't let up on where the former Weather Underground leader fits into the campaign." But, inexplicably, Halperin didn't so much as mention that Letterman confronted McCain about his relationship with Liddy. Several news reports that did mention the Liddy exchange described him as a Watergate felon -- omitting Liddy's much more recent statements about shooting law enforcement personnel...............

Lieberman: McCain 'important' to financial deal

Sen. Joseph Lieberman said Sunday that Republican presidential candidate John McCain's decision to come off the campaign trail and return to Washington was instrumental to the bipartisan compromise addressing the financial crisis that was forged over the weekend.

Lieberman, the Connecticut independent and 2000 Democratic vice presidential candidate, said McCain showed "characteristic guts" in making the decision to temporarily suspend his campaign last week as Congress contemplated a $700 billion bailout plan for Wall Street.
"I honestly don't think that this would had have happened as timely as it did if Sen. McCain had not come back and been a bridgebuilder," Lieberman said to reporters on a conference call Sunday afternoon.

Democrats have blasted McCain's involvement on Capitol Hill, attacking the Arizona Republican for injecting presidential politics into tense negotiations.

i haven't watched him in forever

partly because my television has been rendered non-operational (oh i have another brand new one - still in the box. i'm just sort of grooving on NO tv at my house. i WATCH tv other places, just not here). but i've always watched and LOVED letterman. i cannot stomach leno and i have an even more averse reaction to o'brien. i cannot watch o'brien for more than 3 minutes without wanting to puke. i have tried many a time. he's popular. i feel i'm missing something. well, i just can't do it!

anyway, i love letterman EVEN MORE now!

McCain mocked by Letterman after 'Late Night' cancellation
After receiving a call from the McCain campaign canceling an appearance on tonight's Late Night with David Letterman, it was discovered that McCain stopped down the street to be interviewed by CBS' Katie Couric rather than rushing back to Washington to work on the proposed Wall Street bailout, as Letterman had been told.

"Hey Senator," Letterman mocked in front of live video of the interview, "can I give you a ride home?"

Letterman had earlier expressed suspicion at McCain's move to suspend his campaign. "This doesn't smell right," he said. "This isn't the way a tested hero behaves."

"I think someone's putting something in his Metamucil...He can't run the campaign because the economy is cratering? Fine, put in your second-string quarterback, Sarah Palin. Where is she?"
