Texas immigration bill has big exception
Amid a number of bills filed in Texas that address the issue of illegal immigration, one, proposed by Republican state Rep. Debbie Riddle, stands out.
As proposed, House Bill 1202 would create tough state punishments for those who "intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly" hire an unauthorized immigrant. Violators could face up to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.
But it is an exception included in the bill that is drawing attention. Those who hire unauthorized immigrants would be in violation of the law -- unless they are hiring a maid, a lawn caretaker or another houseworker.
It is a tough immigration bill with a soft side that protects those who hire unauthorized immigrants "for the purpose of obtaining labor or other work to be performed exclusively or primarily at a single-family residence."
Texas state Rep. Aaron Pena, a Republican, said the exception is a wise one.
"With things as they are today, her bill will see a large segment of the Texas population in prison" if it passes without the exception, he said.
"When it comes to household employees or yard workers it is extremely common for Texans to hire people who are likely undocumented workers," Pena said. "It is so common it is overlooked."............

Teenage Mother
is one of a small handful of what could be called “quintessential” or even canonical, if you prefer, exploitation films of the 1960s. Which is not to say it’s all that “good,” either, but it does have a rather full quota of exploitation staples such as sleazy drug dealers, disapproving parents, gang violence, and of course, a lying slut! (Film School Rejects called Teenage Mother a “grindhouse Juno”—I’m not sure how true that is, but it sounds good in theory, doesn’t it?)..............

Huckabee claims inaccurately that Obama was raised in Kenya

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee got his facts wrong when he claimed twice during an interview Monday that President Obama was raised in Kenya.
During an interview with The Steve Malzberg Show, Huckabee said the president, "having grown up in Kenya," would have a different - more hostile - perspective on the British:
I would love to know more. What I know is troubling enough. And one thing that I do know is his having grown up in Kenya, his view of the Brits, for example, [is] very different than the average American.
He repeated the claim, saying:
...if you think about it, his perspective as growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father and grandfather, their view of the Mau Mau Revolution in Kenya is very different than ours because he probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather.
The Associated Press reports that a Huckabee adviser did not have an immediate explanation for Huckabee's comments
The president, a United States citizen, was in fact raised in Hawaii and Indonesia. The president's father was born in Kenya and his mother was born in Kansas.............

We were flipping through the April issue of Cosmopolitan and a tiny little picture of Justin Bieber kissing Selena Gomez caught our eye. Our first reaction, was "ew, Justin Bieber". Then "why is Selena Gomez dating Justin Bieber?" and then "why are either of them in Cosmo?"
Isn't Cosmo at least *supposed* to be a magazine for grownups? Why do we care who 16-year-old Justin Bieber is kissing?
Then we made the mistake of actually reading what they had to say about Justin and Selena...Ugh. Check out the caption they put on this photo:
