What Does Bathroom Etiquette Have To Do With God?
Posted by Richard Metzger
Pastor Steven L Anderson of the Faithful Word Baptist Church (and Teabagger) preaches that men must urinate while standing up. This is what being a man is all about. And it’s emblematic of everything that’s wrong in the world. Apparently. And did you know that President Obama probably pees sitting down. too? That’s what the good reverend thinks! How he knows this, I can’t say..........

1) "piss" was standard usage in English in the 16th/17th centuries, with no pejorative sense attached. It's common to medical books published at that time, including those that predate King James. So, basically, the Reverend should get over himself.

2) Pissing sitting down makes good sense if your aim is bad and/or you splash a lot. Yay Germany, where the women don't want to have to clean up after you.

3) There is at least one work of literature in the German canon that associates "pissing against the wall" not with Real Men, but with dogs.

4) Just because that cop made you feel emasculated when he caught you demonstrating your man-ishness in public, doesn't mean we are descending into totalitarianism.

5) If Reverend Anderson is pissing against the wall of his church, then by all means he should stand up. If he is pissing into the sink of his church, ditto. If he is pissing into a soda bottle behind the altar, how he does that is up to him, but he should please to not leave it sitting on top of the altar afterward. Yes, Christianity is fundamentally a guy thing, but there are limits.

6) Be assured that the rest of the world holds the same amount of reverence for Mr Anderson's pee as it does for Scott Baio's.
