this is what's happening in bosnia

multiply this by a million and you're going to get what will be happening in iraq. we didn't (really) cause bosnia, but we sure as shite caused iraq

even note school children are separated by ethnicity so each group can learn what is 'ethnically appropriate' for their groups. hell shouldn't ALL the kids learn THE SAME THING? THE TRUTH for example?

there is NO need for the world to be like this. i'm not better than you, i'm just different that you AND THAT'S OK

Old Troubles Threaten Again in Bosnia
14 Years After War, Leaders Suggest U.S. Should Step In to Rewrite Treaty

Washington Post Foreign Service
SARAJEVO, Bosnia -- Fourteen years after the United States and NATO intervened to stop war and ethnic cleansing in Bosnia, the old divisions and hatreds are again gripping this Balkan country.

In June, the international envoy who oversees the rebuilding of Bosnia invoked emergency powers that he said were necessary to hold the country together. Although U.S. and European officials have been trying to get Bosnia to stand on its own feet for years, many Bosnian leaders say the only thing that can permanently fix their gridlocked government is for Washington to intervene -- again -- and rewrite the treaty that ended the war in 1995.

The economy is in tatters, with unemployment exceeding 40 percent. Serbs are talking openly of secession. Croats are leaving the country in droves......

Yeah, the only cure for this long memory thing seems to be moving to America. Decontextualization can be a wonderful thing. Though it does take a couple generations' exposure to McDonalds and Buicks and Levittown-style bungalows. Worked fantastically for my Calvinist v. Catholic ancestry, anyway.

I submit we have caused a lot of things in Iraq but the Sunni/Shiite schism is something we only aggravated.

i know we didn't cause sunni v shiite. we stirred that pot though. i also don't think we even KNEW (those in charge i mean) there were different factions of islam. i don't think we (well THEY) knew the history of that region. we fucked up big time on that one.

Oh, they did know, because that was one of their rationalizations for invading -- that it was the human rights mission they (the Clinton Administration) had dropped the ball on after the first Gulf War.

Which, had it been genuine (i.e. without all that oil behind it), and not supplemented with plain old fashioned lying, and not festooned with a long history of giving Saddam Hussein money and material support, might have been an argument.

However...

i've been dying to ask, so i will (of course i know you can either lie or not answer or tell me)

what field are you in (not your job, i understand you want your anonymity)

where did you go to school

how much do you read daily
(pleasure and non)

what is your favorite movie (this is a serious question)

I'm not sure what field I'm in, as my balloon has only recently set down.

I was fully indoctrinated into the tenets of representative democracy by the closet communists and fellow travellers of CT school district numbah 9. After that it was more of the same, only in NY.

How much do I read daily? Not nearly enough.

Favorite movie. Damn. Just one? Probably "The Dawn Patrol", the 1938 remake with Errol Flynn, Basil Rathbone and David Niven. But I dunno, that may just be a mood thing.

Quid pro quo?
