holy shite

i'm not a virginian (no, i wasn't going to say the OTHER word that starts like that), but if i was, i sure as shite would NOT want THIS "man" representing me in the state legislature

RICHMOND, Va. -- A state legislator said black people "should get over" slavery and questioned whether Jews should apologize "for killing Christ," drawing denunciations Tuesday from stunned colleagues.
Del. Frank D. Hargrove, 79, made his remarks in opposition to a measure that would apologize on the state's behalf to the descendants of slaves.
In an interview published Tuesday in The Daily Progress of Charlottesville, Hargrove said slavery ended nearly 140 years ago with the Civil War and added that "our black citizens should get over it................

As a previous Richmonder, I must say I'm not surprised. While Richmond has a LOVELY community of artists and some very cool bohemian souls (I loved living there for this reason), and some very cool pagans, it is also home to some very racist people - many of whom come from "old money." I used to occasionally write for a weekly magazine while working there and have been told stories by some other reporters about how the Richmond Country Club didn't allow black people into membership until very recently (I'd like to say the last 20 years or so, but can't remember exactly).

And, since I am now a Virginian again (not, not that), I must say I'm pretty pissed off about this...

Hate to write it but that guy is nothing. Ever get around a bunch that wants the south to leave the Union again and reform the Confederacy? An organization called League of the South wants to do just that. Meet a few at a county fair a while back and could not help but laugh at them. They view that the south is even now an occupied country and believe the south was the defender of liberty in the civil war. Like Hargrove, the itty bitty issue of slavery is just something everyone should either ignore or get over. Love my country but sometimes I just want to expatriate to some quiet town in Mexico or central America.
