i swear this is NOT lewis the cat
June 13, 2006—Perhaps not since the Cowardly Lion has an animal's appearance been so at odds with its attitude.
On June 4 a black bear wandered into a West Milford, New Jersey, back yard, was confronted by a 15-pound (7-kilogram) tabby cat … and fled up a neighbor's tree. Hissing at the base of the tree, Jack the clawless cat kept the bear at bay for about 15 minutes, then ran him up another tree after an attempted escape..........

I just stopped by to say Hello to a fellow Connecticutian...that looks awful..how about fellow nutmegger...I also wrote about Jack the Cat and Lewis the Cat today. Great blog!
well ,if yo have ever heard it, two cats fighting can make as much noise as 40 dogs fighting
Heh. I think of that Herzog film "Grizzly Man".
mary, read (and commented) your posting. it was delightful as is your blog (which i will spend more time on this weekend)
mr the tub, two cats fighting or mating is one of THE most frightening sounds i have ever heard. it's like a child being tortured. the sound really does send shivers down my spine
g i t m - i didn't know herzog made that film by the way. i've not seen it and i'm not sure i'm going to either.
Oh, it's quite good actually. I haven't seen his other stuff, but he's made a few films that were all supposed to be very good--crazy--but good.
i just love that photo ... !
i've seen a couple of his other movies. they were ok, but i didn't love them. i just don't want to see THAT one because i know the tragic ending
i absolutely love that photo too anita!
Once, while camping, my dog treed a mother bear and cub. I woke up to a sound like baseball bats hitting each other - and it was the bear snapping its jaws at my dog, Sarge. He's not much of a barker, so he was content to just growl at the bear.
Later, while talking to an Ojibwe friend, I found that instinctually the bears know that dogs come in packs and a bear can't reasonably defend a cub from a pack. Seems that dogs treeing bears is a common occurance in Northern Minnesota.
Who knew?
(I think that was just way off topic and merely a chance for me to get attention . . . did it work?)
yes, it worked! it worked very well.........
(speaking of well, i do so hope YOU are)
oh and some day when you're older i'll tell you about MY last camping experience (at nickerson state forest on cape cod) and why i will NEVER EVER go again
When I'm older?
I didn't know there was an AARP requirement for story-telling . . . I'll let you know when I start getting buffet discounts.
i hesitate to tell you such a story. it involves breaking 'laws', males and females camping on the SAME site (some in the SAME tents), dogs, plenty of alcohol, someone kicking up MY personal tent stakes, a raging fire, huge weenies and my personal favorite, a park ranger on horseback kicking us out and forbidding us EVER to come back, at 5:00 am (when we were NOT at our most freshest)
I'm going to pop some popcorn . . . this sounds good.
