my experimental cowl/wimple type thingy

i wanted something to make for a few solstice/christmas gifts this year (hey december is ONLY ten months away) that was easy and quick. although i am a bigger woman than either of the models (i laugh when i say models)i still want the top opening, the part that goes over your head to be a bit tighter (my head is HUGE but baby, not THAT big). i do wear my hair in a bun and i wanted a bit of extra room for that, but i must adjust still. other than that, i think it came out pretty cool if i do say so myself. i used a silk-wool blend yarn for the main part. the colored stripe was some sort of noro yarn that i believe was silk-wool too (but the texture was kind of nubby) and the green was some fuzzy stuff i had laying around. i also added a few crocheted flowers here and there. the models are my dear friends erin (top) and cathy (bottom)and i made them pose while at work (that is the sort of friend i am). oh and it was THEIR idea to be 'artistic' about the poses.

Excellent! i love it. Actually, i'd probably keep the hood that wide because while it isn't wind tight, it looks very elegant. The drap just does a lot for the look. You know i love lots of color so this one really appeals to me and the flowers make me smile, but i could also see it in blacks (different textures) or one of the new fur yarns, like a silver, for evening wear.

It's very hard to get a good model. And they say in the world of quality control statistics, you should never fall in love with a model. Anyway...
Very nice "thingy," as you call it. I like the colors, which juxtapose nicely with the monk cowl style.

jean-it was WICKCED windy today and the cowl kept me fairly warm. even though i knit it on needles too big for the yarn, the wool/silk blend did keep me toasty. it would have worked better if it was a bit tighter though.

vanx, those two babes (cathy and erin) are VERY good sports

i wanted something that went around the neck that wasn't a scarf and that could still be pulled up over the head if you wanted to do that.

i'll be right over to read your posting! i'm late today. i've not looked at ANYONE's postings yet (i've not even had a cup of coffee yet)
