US concerned about escalation of Turkish attacks: White House
The White House Wednesday said it had expressed concern to Ankara over the possible escalation of Turkey's attacks against Kurdish PKK rebels inside northern Iraq.
"We've also made it clear to the Turkish government that anything that could lead to escalated concerns or civilian casualties; we have concerns about those steps," White House spokesman Scott Stanzel told reporters aboard Air Force One.
The comment came amid new attacks early Wednesday by Turkish bombers on positions inside Iraq of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the third round of such strikes in ten days confirmed by Ankara............

U.S. Helps Turkey Hit Rebel Kurds In Iraq
Intelligence Role Could Complicate Diplomacy

By Ann Scott Tyson and Robin Wright Washington Post Staff Writers
The United States is providing Turkey with real-time intelligence that has helped the Turkish military target a series of attacks this month against Kurdish separatists holed up in northern Iraq, including a large airstrike on Sunday, according to Pentagon officials.
U.S. military personnel have set up a center for sharing intelligence in Ankara, the Turkish capital, providing imagery and other immediate information gathered from U.S aircraft and unmanned drones flying over the separatists' mountain redoubts, the officials said. A senior administration official said the goal of the U.S. program is to identify the movements and activities of the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK), which is fighting to create an autonomous enclave in Turkey. .............

i had no idea

king george and his court wanted us to deny the genocide of armenians in 1915. turkey can deny it all they like. it happened. hey, i'm italian and THEY did some NASTY things throughout history. i don't LIKE it, but i'm NOT going to DENY it. when you deny things such as this it just makes it MUCH EASIER for it to happen again.

i have a question for king george and his court-what next, the holocaust (cause you don't want to piss off the germans)?
AND
to all of those who backed out of supporting this measure. you are a bunch of COWARDS
Panel Labels Armenian Killings Genocide

By Elizabeth Williamson Washington Post Staff Writer
A House panel voted yesterday to approve calling the mass killings of Armenians that began in 1915 genocide, defying the White House, which warned that the measure could damage U.S.-Turkey relations.
The Foreign Affairs Committee passed the nonbinding resolution on a 27 to 21 bipartisan vote.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has promised she will bring the resolution to the full House for a vote.
Turkey, one of Washington's most staunch Islamic allies, lobbied hard to kill the measure, launching a multimillion dollar campaign and threatening to curtail its cooperation in the Iraq war. President Bush, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates were joined by eight former secretaries of state and three former defense secretaries in condemning the proposal. ......

another voice heard from

as if they aren't being bombarded by us enough. now the turks are warning them. well not the shiia or the sunni. they're warning the kurds. that is just such a complicated part of the world. we (we meaning king george and his court) didn't do our homework BEFORE we illegally, immorally and unjustly invaded iraq.

Turkey to Warn Iraq on Rebel Sanctuaries
Cross-Border Attack on Separatists Appears Likely If Baghdad Fails to Act

By Ellen Knickmeyer Washington Post Foreign Service

CAIRO -- Turkish leaders this week will give visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki what Turkish military commanders and analysts said could be a final warning to act against anti-Turkey Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq -- or to stand by while Turkish forces go after the rebels themselves, risking a new front in Iraq's war.
Leaders of
Turkey's governing Justice and Development Party appear to be in agreement with Turkey's generals that the time has come to move against the Kurdistan Workers' Party, known by its Kurdish initials, PKK, in its bases in the mountains of northern Iraq, former generals and a military expert close to the Turkish military's general staff said........
