there IS a governor out there who DID turn down some (and i do mean SOME) of the stimulus money. who does he think he's helping here? surely not the citizens of louisiana

Jindal Rejects $90 Million In Recovery Funding That Would Have Benefited 25,000 Louisiana Residents»

When President Obama signed the Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act last week, it included three different provisions to benefit unemployed workers. The first provided funding to states that allowed for a $25 per week increase in benefits. The second extended the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program which gives 20 weeks of federally-funded unemployment benefits to individuals “who had already collected all regular state benefits,” while the third provision widened the pool of people eligible to receive unemployment benefits.

Today, however, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal announced his intention to oppose changing state law to allow his Lousiana citizens to qualify for the second two unemployment provisions. Jindal said the state would only be accepting money to increase the unemployment insurance payments for those who currently qualify for unemployment insurance.

In all, Jindal turned away nearly $100 million in federal aid for his state’s unemployed residents...........

Student tells paper she's sorry for 'Jena 6' re-enactment
CNN) -- A student who videoed a re-enactment of the "Jena 6" incident apologized and said the video was not intended to make fun of the six black students arrested in the beating of a white classmate, according to The News-Star newspaper of Monroe, Louisiana.........
...........In a Tuesday interview with the News-Star, a tearful Smith denied being racist.
"This is so not me," she said in the Wednesday article. "It wasn't that we were making fun of the Jena 6 incident. We were just fed up with it ... I have just as many black [friends] as I do white friends...............

what have i discovered about humanity? i think we are ALL racist and prejudiced about something or someone or another. instead of denying it, let's just say, 'what can i do to change my perception(s), to change my outlook'? (after all they ARE just perceptions and outlooks)

In a move ostensibly aimed at providing "better science education" in Louisiana schools, Sen. David Vitter has secured $100,000 in taxpayer dollars to fund an anti-evolution effort spearheaded by a religious group politically connected to the alleged prostitute-soliciting Republican.
Vitter secured an earmark in an upcoming labor, health and education financing bill for the Louisiana Family Forum, which The New Orleans Times Picayune reports has "taken the lead in promoting 'origins science,' which includes the possibility of divine intervention in the creation of the universe.".......

you expect some HUMAN reaction to a natural disaster. not even a who is right and a who is wrong one. all we got (well all those on the gulf coast) was a POLITICAL response.

it's YOUR fault, no, it's YOUR fault, no it's HIS fault, no it's HER fault and on and on and on. yet there are STILL tons of people suffering.

(and mr capehart, what's with the jerry springeresque lead in to this article anyway? would you have set it up this way - girls fighting/hold my earrings - if the governor of louisiana was a MAN? i think we both know the answer to that)

Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco (D) went off. Not in a girls fighting, "Hold my earrings!" kind of way. But in a blunt manner befitting a chief executive who endured the worst natural and engineering disaster in U.S. history, who continues to battle Washington for federal assistance, and who is not running for reelection.
We met in Blanco's imposing office on the fourth floor of the state Capitol in Baton Rouge on Wednesday. After watching her testify pleasantly before state legislative committees on behalf of her insurance reform package and for an expansion of Louisiana's Child Health Plus program, I was floored by her "bring it on" forthrightness as she talked about her dealings with Washington after Hurricane Katrina............
