CBS News Pick Claimed Democrats are Bad People

Ira Forman

Ira Forman

Today, I learned that CBS News named Jeff Ballabon, a New York Republican activist, to serve as the Senior Vice President of Communications.

What is CBS thinking? This guy is very far out there with his partisan rhetoric.

A decade ago, I debated Ballabon in New York. I represented the Democratic Jewish community while he spoke on behalf of Republican Jews. During the debate, Ballabon claimed that, after his most recent job in Washington, he became convinced that Democrats are inherently bad people and Republicans are fundamentally good people.

What planet does this guy come from? It's astonishing that CBS News would name Ballabon to its senior management...........

Setting The Record: Palin's Earmarks

CBS Evening News: Reality Checking The Alaska Governor's "Bridge To Nowhere" Claims

(CBS) Its one of those claims that gets so much applause.

"I told Congress 'thanks but no thanks,' to that bridge to nowhere," Palin has said over and over on the campaign trail, CBS News correspondent Wyatt Andrews reports.

Gov. Sarah Palin just won't let it go. But the truth is the governor never rebuffed Congress. Here are the facts.

After a year of supporting the proposed bridge, near Ketchikan, Gov. Palin pulled state funds from the project, which killed the bridge for good, but she never said "no thanks" to the Federal funds promised by Congress -- $233 million.

In fact, here's the list of how Palin is spending those federal tax dollars - on other highway projects around Alaska. As a candidate for governor, she defended every dollar for roads and bridges the state could wrangle from Washington, according to the Congressional Record and the Alaska Department of Transportation. ..........

what, real soldiers don't die real deaths?

i know king george doesn't think so - since he's not attended ONE funeral.

they don't really count i guess if you don't go. actors playing dead soldiers don't count obviously.

Fake Soldiers Used In RNC Video

Patriotic Montage Shown At RNC Featured Actors Hired For One Day Shoot, Not Military

(CBS) CBS News Investigative Producer Michael Rey wrote this story for CBSNews.com.

It was a video that was supposed to elicit soaring patriotism and real emotions about the Pledge of Allegiance. But to do that, it used fake soldiers and a staged military funeral instead of the real thing.

On Tuesday night, 15-year-old Victoria Blackstone, a sophomore at the St. Agnes School in St. Paul, led the crowd at the Xcel Energy Center in the Pledge of Allegiance. The audience heard her 434-word essay, “Pledging myself to the Flag of the United States of America,” an essay she’d entered in the “Wave the Stars & Stripes” essay contest and won. The RNC turned that essay into a three and a half minute video, a visually stirring montage rolling over Victoria’s words about sharing the Pledge with Americans who have stood at important moments in history.

There’s the Continental Congress…A real WWII vet…Photos of workers at Ground Zero. A close-up of a folded flag presented to a grieving widow at a military funeral… profiles of soldiers swelling with pride in slo-motion.

But CBS News found that the footage of the ‘funeral’ and soldiers is what is called ‘stock’ footage. The soldiers were actors and the funeral scene was from a one-day film shoot, produced in June. No real soldiers were used during production...........

......A veteran’s advocate said that with soldiers still deployed and in harm’s way, there is an obligation not to sugar coat reality.

“What it does reveal is a serious lack of understanding and a lack of personal connection to the military,” said Paul Rieckhoff, Executive Director of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America........

again

misstatement after misstatement. or is it lie after lie. or is it we see what we WANT to see. and edit after edit. we're all human. we all make mistakes. no one is covering up or editing OUT barack obama's mistakes, misstatements or errors. they sure are trying with mccain.

as an aside....i was talking with my friend cathy yesterday (she moved back to joisey and is working at a hospital in philly. she's going to look for a job at a hospital here in late fall. i can't WAIT. anyway, we had lunch yesterday. she SQUEEZED me into her very tight schedule. she was here for a wedding. we were talking about the FRAUD that happened in the last presidential election AND the one before and we were both hoping it sure didn't happen in this one. she made a very good point though. how barack obama is MUCH MUCH MUCH STRONGER than kerry is/was. oh and one more thing, A GIANT SHOUT OUT TO THE WALLINGFORD FIREFIGHTERS)

CBS scrubs a second McCain flub from interview broadcast
David Edwards and Nick Juliano

Update: DNC slams McCain for calling Iraq 'first' post-9/11 conflict

Keeping up with John McCain's foreign policy gaffes is becoming a cottage industry these days, and a progressive radio host has caught another slip-up from the Republican presidential nominee talking about the war on terror.

And keeping those flubs away from viewers is occupying plenty of network news editors' time.

Young Turks host Cenk Uygur noticed that his confusion about the timeline of the "surge" in Iraq wasn't McCain's only gaffe in his interview with CBS news this week. McCain seemed to forget the war in Afghanistan preceded the invasion of Iraq; either that or he didn't think it was a major conflict.

"The fact is we had four years of failed policy. ... We were losing the war in Iraq. The consequences of failure. The defeat of the United States of America in the first major conflict since 9/11 would have had devastating impacts throughout the region and the world," McCain told CBS anchor Katie Couric.

"Was Afghanistan not major enough for him?" Uygur asks.

Like his previous flub, CBS edited this misstatement from its broadcast.........

to cbs

I just read the following on imdb

CBS News veteran Linda Mason, who was appointed to head the news division's "standards and special projects" unit following the "Memogate" scandal two years ago, has attributed the continued decline in the ratings for The CBS Evening News With Katie Couric to the fact that the public "seems to prefer the news from white guys." In an interview with the CBS blog Public Eye, Mason said she has concluded from the downward trend of Couric's ratings and the upward trend of Charles Gibson's that viewers "want the reassurance of a Walter Cronkite." Mason suggested that she was surprised by the failure of the public to latch on to Couric. "I had no idea that a woman delivering the news would be a handicap. And I'm afraid that Katie's paying a price for being the first woman. But I think it's a great trail that she's blazing, and I think if the broadcast continues to be as good as it has been, if we continue to break news, if we continue to tell interesting stories, people will start to watch."

and i sent the following to cbs via their online feedback
If in fact Ms Mason said this (and if she did and if I were in charge of CBS her butt would be OUT OF THE DOOR IMMEDIATELY), let me reassure you, I personally have NO PROBLEM with WOMEN DELIVERING THE NEWS. I DO have a problem with some insipid perky lamebrain with a fake smile pasted on her face, delivering the news. HOW DARE Ms Mason even utter something like "the public prefers to get the news from WHITE GUYS". How racist and misogynistic. Why would she assume it's the fault of the public Ms Couric's ratings stink? It's MS COURIC herself and those that chose her for the position. Please don't ever insult my intelligence, my gender or the entire human race by saying things like Ms Couric is blazing a trail for women. Holy schmagolies. The ONLY thing Ms Coric succeeds in doing is giving me a migraine!
