I have known decent republicans for years and to be honest I hold some views that would put in the Jim Webb category of Democrat, in other words I'm center left on some issues. But over the last several years I have seen a proto-religious/racist/fascism develop that while ill defined is none the less floating around out there waiting for some economic collapse, terrorist attack, or other big event to solidify and become visible in the sense of an open political movement. Its one of the reasons I was happy to see Powell endorse Obama to day.
