Eric has been very good both for and to JJ Cale. If Eric had not recorded "After Midnight," Cale's life would have been very different and, in my opinion, not as good.

i don't think eric holds a candle to j j. i have no idea how his life would have been without clapton recording his stuff. i sure can't say it wouldn't have been as good. one never knows who else could have or would have recorded his songs.
rocky i think eric clapton is very highly overrated and not as talented as let's say someone like roy buchanan (talk about a tragic life)...
