silly me

i thought the president (or king in this case) of the united states worked for ME and the rest of the citizens of this land. i thought this was a free america where we had a constitution and freedoms and rights. including the freedoms and rights to speak out if we feel there are wrongs and injustices. i thought since the king worked for US, we had a right to express our feelings DIRECTLY TO HIM.

little did i know..........

White House Manual Details How to Deal With Protesters

By Peter Baker Washington Post Staff Writer
Not that they're worried or anything. But the White House evidently leaves little to chance when it comes to protests within eyesight of the president. As in, it doesn't want any.
A White House manual that came to light recently gives presidential advance staffers extensive instructions in the art of "deterring potential protestors" from
President Bush's public appearances around the country.
Among other things, any event must be open only to those with tickets tightly controlled by organizers. Those entering must be screened in case they are hiding secret signs. Any anti-Bush demonstrators who manage to get in anyway should be shouted down by "rally squads" stationed in strategic locations. And if that does not work, they should be thrown out.
But that does not mean the White House is against dissent -- just so long as the president does not see it. ......

Dangerous. I have participated in rallies, protests, marchs, and a multitude of political actions, beggining with the Humprey/Nixon, campaign. We expected tear gass, night sticks and pepper spray during vietnam protests I never felt frightened. That is, not until I attended an anti war /Bush protest during his re-election campaign. Unknowingly I drove as if i was going to any rally ,to discover he was speaking in a closed, walled off ball park. His staffers had police preventing people from parking anywhere remotely near the site. There was no staging area. Afterwards, when I hiked my way down the road in broad daylight I was surrounded by men women and children, who were agressive, physically threatening ,and verbally abusive. Police all around and not a thing was done to protect a woman alone. Finally and reluctantly I planted myself between two cops and waited. Thanks for the heads up, I felt this was more then a spontanious erruption. Funny, Clinton visited here three times and noone had a ticket we all gathered, pressed together,in areas easily accessable to all sectors of our multicultural rust belt town. At the first sight of esculating conflict his secret service and police stepped over and calmed the crowd noone tossed. This, country isn't the country I used to live in. Could someone tell me whose the author of the rewrittened constitution or who lit the match to burn the original. Oh, why bother to ask, the "Christian finge/insurgents/terroists" have web sites to justify all anti american acts. Warning to Bushwankers, we are watching you, too.
Thank you Rose for your continued use of free speech and press. In a time when it's dangerous to have dessenting voice. Crow Cawz
