more on jonathan schulze

as i said in a prior posting, my father visits one of the va hospitals in connecticut for treatment. he gets excellent service and excellent care.

with that said, a couple of va hospitals in mn may NOT have offered jonathan schulze care or treatment. he literally begged for help and from what it appears, his cries were not met with the concern they should have been.

jonathan served time in the armed forces, in iraq. he fought for his country and went well beyond his duty. jonathan took his own life when he returned home. THAT never should have happened.

Akaka Demands Investigation Into Suicide of Iraq War Veteran

by Bob Geiger

I reported on Wednesday about Jonathan Schulze, the 25-year-old Iraq war Veteran from Minnesota, who committed suicide after being denied immediate treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder at two Veterans Administration medical facilities.
Fortunately, Democrats are now in charge of the Congress and action is already being taken.
Senator Daniel Akaka (D-HI), the Chairman of the Senate
Veterans' Affairs Committee, is looking into the incident and sent a letter this week to VA Acting Under Secretary for Health, Dr. Michael Kussman. In the letter, Akaka asked for an expedited analysis of the events preceding Schulze's death, as well as a description of what actions the VA is taking to ensure that delays for vital mental health care do not occur in the future...........

just another number (my previous post)

Its been awhile but I seem to remember Daddy Bush cutting the Veterans Adminstration budget after the Persian Gulf war with some similar things happening then. I hope to god we never see another Bush run for any national office.

The Army did the same thing to my Son he was a MP in the Amy they did not give him any help!! He running through his building saying I'm not a murderer IM not a murderer and tried to jump out a window if that is not a sign for suicide what is ??? They did not a thing for him after he was in a horrible accident over in Germany and his First Sergeant died. He was only home one year and two months and he shot himself.

yellowrose, i am so very sorry for your loss. once our troops DO come home, it is our responsibility to take care of them. they sacrificed for us, we have to make sure to keep them well.

it is obvious to me (and i'm nowhere near being a doctor) one cannot fight in wars (especially iraq), come home and NOT need assistance.

it is just an out and out sin if we let anything happen to them.

i will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. may what happened to your son, never happen again.

I am the proud stepmom of another soldier lost to this war. Although he was killed in combat, who knows what help he may have needed if he indeed returned home. I simply am appaled by Jonathan's story and cannot believe not one but two very desperate cries for help went unheeded by the "professionals" assigned to help people just like Jonathan. We don't hesitate for a moment to send them off to war, to witness and take part in the things they have to see and do on a daily basis - why then is there any hesitation whatsoever when they return to afford them everything and anything they may need to TRY to recover from that which they witnessed and has affected both their bodies and their souls and minds? Unacceptable - completely unacceptable - his death is on their hands and it won't wash off so easily. Perhaps the next person that calls or visits them with their desperate cry for help won't be told he or she is a number and to come back when that number is called! Highly doubtful but one can hope and pray that this does not happen again. There are lessons to be learned here - are they BRAVE ENOUGH, to they have the COURAGE enough, do they have the COMPASSION enough to respond.....I wonder!

To his family, his daughter and child unborn - I am so very sorry. I will stand with you all in your grief for a death that did not have to happen.

i am sorry for the loss of your stepson. i am sorry for the loss of all sons and daughters.

although the va denies the allegations, i tend to believe jonathan's father and stepmother. they claim to have overheard him asking for help

instead of asking for BILLIONS of dollars to fund that war in iraq, that money should be appropriated ELSEWHERE. one elsewhere would be taking PERFECT care of our veterans.

once again, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family
