Sick Kids gets millions in donation from Labatts
Family patriarch continues lifelong relationship that began in his infancy

When Arthur Labatt was nine months old in the mid-1930s, he got very sick, probably from pneumonia, and his family called a doctor.
But not just any doctor.
As befitting a scion of the London, Ont., brewing family, Dr. Alan Brown, the physician-in-chief at the Hospital for Sick Children and co-inventor of Pablum, was summoned from Toronto.
The long-distance house call turned out to be the start of one of the most important relationships the hospital has ever had, although Mr. Labatt recalled in an interview that he only learned about the incident a few years ago when a relative told him about it.

Yesterday, Mr. Labatt -- the great-grandson of John Labatt, founder of the Labatt brewery -- and his wife Sonia gave Sick Kids $30-million, $25-million of which is to establish the Labatt Family Heart Centre, and $5-million for the Arthur and Sonia Labatt Brain Tumour Research Centre............
