a disturbing story indeed

i don't know if it is true about the jail worker refusing to give the (alleged) rape victim her second dose of plan b, for religious reasons. the the jail worker denies this claim. i don't have enough evidence either way. if it IS true, it is one of THE most horrid incidents i've heard of.

it IS true the (alleged) rape victim was immediately jailed for a prior warrant AFTER she was (allegedly) raped. THAT is a horror without question.

one more example of women being treated like a steamin' pile o' shite

Rape victim is jailed on old warrant

TAMPA, Florida (AP) -- A college student who told police she had been raped was jailed for two days after officers found an old warrant accusing her of failing to pay restitution for a 2003 theft arrest.
While she was behind bars, a jail worker refused to give her a second dose of the morning-after contraceptive pill because of the worker's religious convictions, the college student's attorney said.
The 21-year-old woman was released Monday only after attorney Vic Moore reported her plight to the local media. (
Watch the mother describe how her daughter was twice vicitimized )
"Shocked. Stunned. Outraged. I don't have words to describe it," Moore said. "She is not a victim of any one person. She is a victim of the system. There's just got to be some humanity involved when it's a victim of rape."
Moore said the young woman was not allowed to take the second emergency contraceptive pill until Monday afternoon, a day late, after reporters called police and jail officials...............

I have lived in Tampa my whole life and have been attending the Gasparilla Parade for the past 15 years or so. Here is my problem with the story: This girl left the parade before it even started, alone, because she wanted to go home (unusual, especially for a 21 year old in this town). The street corner she was "snatched" off of is FILLED with hundreds and hundreds of people at that time of day on Gasparilla (surely someone would have done something to help), and if she was walking to her car, she was walking in the wrong direction. Being from Tampa, as she is, she should know that the way to the University of Tampa, where her car was parked, was in the opposite direction of where she was walking. Now, I am sorry this poor girl was raped, but I think there is more to her story than she is telling police. I don't doubt that she was raped, but I think she possibly knew this man and was going to meet him for whatever reason, maybe to buy drugs. (There is a lot of that going on in this town on that day). South Tampa is a very small community and Gasparilla is like a holiday for us around here. I can assure you, nothing about this girl's story makes any sense.

i am not disputing something doesn't seem quite right about the story. i AM disputing them putting someone who (allegedly) was raped in jail as they did to her. i say allegedly on purpose. i know that may anger some. i don't care.

we just had an incident in hartford. a woman claimed she was raped at 3 in the afternoon at a little park right in the middle of downtown hartford. it did seem unbelievable BUT i did give her story the benefit of the doubt. turns out that is not exactly what happened. she changed her story and said she was raped but not by the 300 lb black man she originally said committed the crime. she also said it wasn't in bushnell park. either she or the policy are NOT releasing her second story.

the black community in hartford demanded her arrest for filing a false report.

within the past two weeks a high school student in hartford said she was abudcted and raped. it was determined that never happened and she lied.

and let us not forget the 'duke case'.

i KNOW what getting assaulted is like. i also know and have seen what it does to other women when it happens to them(i have done sexual assault crisis work in the past).

assault does not take into account one's color, one's religion or one's profession (i was an advocate for a prostitute that was raped. YES, prostitutes CAN be raped). i am a vicious advocate when i have to be. there is no one who could or would protect these victims (they ARE victims initially. part of my job was to make sure they ended up NOT being a victim but a survivor)better than i.

there are some women (and men of course) out there with some serious issues. i don't know why they claim they are sexually assaulted when they are not. i tend to believe they may have some sort of imbalance.

i don't know where i'm going with all of this. i DO know if i hear things like 'she was asking for it because she had a short skirt on' or something to that effect, i go NUTS. i also don't ever want anyone who is INNOCENT to be accused of this horrible crime
