did i just read THIS correctly:

.......White House spokesman Tony Snow said Bush would issue a veto because "it's inappropriate for the federal government to finance something that many people consider murder."......

if king george thinks stem cell research is murder, what the EFF does he think we are doing in iraq? what the EFF does he think capital 'punishment' is? holy sweet goddess i am beside myself

WASHINGTON — The Senate voted Tuesday to expand federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, flouting President Bush's promised first veto and highlighting an emotional issue for this fall's elections.
The 63-37 vote fell four short of the two-thirds needed to override a veto, which Bush could issue today. He has gone longer without issuing a veto than any president since Thomas Jefferson in 1801-09.

The legislative action caps years of debate over science and ethics. Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., and some religious conservatives link the research to abortion. Former first lady Nancy Reagan and doctors say it could lead to cures for Parkinson's and other diseases.
The issue has divided Republicans: 19 senators broke with Bush to support the bill, and 50 lawmakers did so when the House voted 238-194 in May 2005. In a Gallup Poll in May, 61% called embryonic stem cell research morally acceptable.....
