Congressional Library Chooses 50 Recordings for Preservation in National Registry
By CARL HARTMAN
WASHINGTON Apr 11, 2006 (AP)—
A high school band plays Beethoven. President Calvin Coolidge delivers his inaugural address. Fats Domino turns "Blueberry Hill," a hit for big-band leader Glenn Miller, into a rock 'n' roll classic.
They're among the 50 records that the Library of Congress has deemed worthy of preservation this year.
"The National Recording Registry represents a stunning array of the diversity, humanity and creativity found in our sound heritage, nothing less than a flood of noise and sound pulsating into the American bloodstream," Librarian of Congress James H. Billington said in announcing the choices for 2006.
The library took the occasion to announce a rare find: a 1940 jam session featuring tenor saxophonist Lester Young, The night club couldn't be positively identified, said Gene DeAnna, head of the library's recorded sound section, but it may have been the Village Vanguard in downtown Manhattan. .........the library of congress national recording registryi don't know some of the recordings but others i sure do. Great post. I was going to just make a quick passage among the blogs I have not visited due to reconstruction delays and then I got stuck on this one for the last 30 minutes.
After having reviewed both this years additions and the entire collection I am only disappointed that there is no link that allows you to hear each of the selections.
I'll be back to explore this one some more. Thanks
man rich can you IMAGINE IF they had a link to each recording? you and i would be fired from our jobs, our families would disown us and our animal companions would bite us.
yes, i would have LOVED that. i want to tell you each and every one they chose that was special to me, but i won't. i think you get it!
Too bad. A link would have been sweet.
i wonder who has that job, it would be awesome
Nick Danger, Third Eye! Gosh, that was brilliant stuff. When Rex Kramer, Danger Seeker, started to blog I thought he might be Nick's long lost brother.
oh my goddess mr shakespeare, i thought the VERY same thing of mr kramer, danger seeker! how funny is that?
graeme, oh what i wouldn't give for that job!
static man, there just wouldn't be enough time to listen to EVERYTHING. damn, but you're right, it WOULD have been wicked nice!
