Conservative university bans Democratic club

By John Byrne
As they say in conservative circles, “freedom isn’t free.”

Liberty, apparently, isn’t liberating either.

Liberty University — the largest evangelical university in the world — has revoked its recognition of the campus Democratic Party club. In their explanation, the university said they were “unable to lend support to a club whose parent organization stands against the moral principles held by” the school................

..................

Diaz said that the college’s vice president had actually complimented the club last year for being a faith-based organization working within the Democratic party. Ironically, the group opposes abortion and same-sex marriage — but that wasn’t enough for Liberty University officials.

The group’s staff adviser, Maria Childress, told the paper, “His bottom line was, ‘You can’t be a Democrat and be a Christian and be a university representative.’”...................

what's the difference?

well it's F**KING OBVIOUS! one is black (the one that's a 'lunatic') and one is white (the one that people give a free pass to). see any problems with this? well i do. one of these 'pastors' says far worse things than the other yet HE isn't talked about OR written up (in the main stream media that is) 1/4 as much as the other. see the disparity here? i do
(oh and for the record, i think ALL fundamentalists, especially those like the two i'm talking about are id-jits)

Countdown: John McCain’s growing pastor problems

By Muriel Kane
Presidential candidate John McCain’s pastor problems are bubbling up again, with Reverend John Hagee, whose support and endorsement McCain has actively sought, reversing last week’s retraction of remarks he made in 2006 blaming the destruction of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina on a planned gay pride parade.
MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann pointed out Hagee’s reversal and also noted that McCain recently had a photo op at a plaque honoring New York firefighters who died on 9/11. Another McCain supporter, the late Reverend Jerry Falwell, famously blamed 9/11 on “the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays” and threatened that it could happen again if “God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve.”
Olbermann then asked Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson to comment on how McCain is pulling off “one of the great political magic tricks of all time” by making these questionable connections disappear.
Robinson agreed that Hagee “is a complete lunatic [who] makes Jeremiah Wright sound fairly mainstream, yet McCain seems to get away with this.”
“I don’t see how how McCain … can continue to pretend that Hagee’s not out there,” Robinson continued. “There is a kind of demagoguery gap … Republicans are much better at demogoguing these issues than Democrats are. … Democrats remain tethered to things like objective fact and fairness. But by any standard, there are parallels here that are going to have to be addressed.”.........

the answer to the question alex is; YES

(the question being are black id-jit preachers treated differently than white id-jit preachers)

Fair Play for False Prophets
By E. J. Dionne Jr.
NEW YORK -- Do white right-wing preachers have it easier than black left-wing preachers? Is there a double standard?
The political explosion around the Rev.
Jeremiah Wright was inevitable, given Wright's personal closeness to Barack Obama and the outrageous rubbish the pastor has offered about AIDS, Sept. 11 and Louis Farrakhan.
After Wright's bizarre and narcissistic performance at the
National Press Club on Monday, Obama would have looked weak and irresolute had he not denounced him. But if there was a moment of courage in this drama, it was not Obama's condemnation of Wright but his earlier and now much-criticized effort to avoid a complete break with his unapologetic pastor. .........

more on uhl

who, by the way wanted to be an ARMY CHAPLAIN

seems like he may have been upset with a certain group (i will NOT mention) who generally protest at the funerals of service people under the pretext that 'god doesn't like fags' (yeah, i don't get it either but there may be a bit of inbreeding going on there. we'll never know. they should just be ignored. if you don't feed the animals they WILL go away).

not that uhl was a left leaner by any means. i'm guessing (and i didn't go to med school for 8 years for nothing*) he was really pissed at this group for dissin' (they were going to say falwell was kind to gays - which of course he NEVER WAS. he even blamed them, well LESBIANS for 9/11) big jer

Liberty Student Arrested on Bomb Charges
Was to Allegedly Attend Falwell Funeral With Devices

(May 23) - A Liberty University student who told a family member he had made bombs and planned to attend the funeral of the Rev. Jerry Falwell was apparently upset about an anti-gay fringe group that protested at the funeral, authorities said......

...........Investigators determined that Uhl had problems with a group that protested at the funeral, Gaddy said. The Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church sent about a dozen members to protest across the street from the funeral, claiming Falwell was a friend to gays. The group also has picketed soldiers' burials, claiming the deaths are God's punishment for a nation that supports homosexuality. ..............

.......Benson said Uhl was in Liberty's Army ROTC program and was studying to become an Army chaplain. Gaddy said investigators in Fauquier County were interviewing several people who had been in an ROTC program with Uhl in high school and may have been involved in making the bombs. One is now in the Army, he said......

Liberty Univ. student brings explosives to Falwell Funeral

David Edwards and Josh Catone

Mark Uhl, a student at Liberty University, was arrested today for possessing several homemade bombs which he told authorities he made to disrupt protesters at the funeral of Jerry Falwell.
The 19-year-old student, reportedly had six devices on his person or in his car when he was arrested. Some reports say the devices were gasoline-based "napalm" bombs......
